Transformationen von Staaten und Gesellschaften im Vorderen Orient

PS – Beyond Tahrir: Eine politische Ethnographie Kairos

„Cities are, to paraphrase, all things to men.“ (Janet Abu-Lughod)
In den urbanen Ballungsgebieten des Vorderen Orients finden sich Dynamiken des Umbruchs auf engstem Raum
wieder: Politischer Islam, Zentralstaat, soziale Bewegungen, transnationale Netzwerke, Neoliberalisierung und
Subalternität, postkoloniale Machtverhältnisse und die Reproduktion der Peripherie. Diese historisch
gewachsenen Zentren wurden zu Schauplätzen der sozialen und politischen Umbrüche der letzten Jahre:
brennende Parteizentralen, Straßenblockaden und kreative Überlebensstrategien der Armen in den informellen
Siedlungen. Am Beispiel Kairos möchten wir die genannten Dynamiken „von unten“ näher analysieren und
verstehen wie diese im Zusammenspiel auf das „neue“ Kairo und das „neue“ Ägypten wirken.
Das Seminar richtet sich an Studierende aus verschiedenen Disziplinen mit Bezug auf den Vorderen Orient
(Bachelor, Master, Diplom).
