Introduction
Genial Geschichte Topics ist ein fächerübergreifendes Arbeitsprogramm, das bestimmte geschichtliche
Themen für den Englischunterricht anbietet, und die Schüler zum selbstständigen Erarbeiten einer
historischen Epoche in englischer Sprache anregt.
Viele differenzierte Arbeitsaufgaben, Puzzles, Rätsel, Lernspielen-Dominos und Triminos tragen zur
Festigung der Geschichten oder der Informationstexte sowie der neuen Vokabeln bei.
Die Selbstkontrolle der einzelnen Aufgaben ermöglicht den Schülern das Lerntempo selbst zu bestimmen.

In a medieval town

The night-watch patrolled the streets all night to make sure that everything was peaceful and that
there was no fire.

People from the country brought animals, vegetables and other food to sell in town. Carts and packhorses filled the street.

If a man had sold bad eggs, he would have been put in the pillory as a punishment. People laughed
at him and threw bad eggs at him.

The toilets were only in wooden sheds outside the house.

People threw their rubbish and emtied their chamber-pots out of their windows into the streets.

Servants did most of the cooking and cleaning in a noble man‘s house.

People usually cooked a stew in big pots over an open fire place. A pig and some birds were roasted.

Women collected herbs and flowers from the garden. They used them in the house to make it smell
nice.

Mothers showed their daughters how to prepare food.
10| They crushed herbs and made medicine.
11| Schoolboys wrote on slates covered with wax. These slates could be used again and again, because
the wax could be melted and smoothed.
12| If a boy came late or forgot his homework, the master would beat him with a bunch of sticks.
13| Boys played ball games in the street.
14| Apprentices helped in the workshop, lived in the family of the master and learned a trade.
15| Men practiced archery in their free time.
