irca 258 Seemeilen südlich von Bangkok landen wir auf der 247 Quadratkilometer großen Insel Ko Samui, die schon auf
den ersten Blick alles verspricht, wonach wir leidenschaftlich Weltreisenden uns nahezu das ganze Jahr sehnen: Sonne, weißer
Sandstrand, Luxus und Exotik. Ko Samui lockt uns mit den Korallengärten bei Tong Takien, den Wasserfällen bei Hin Lat und
Na Muang und nicht zuletzt natürlich mit dem ersten 5-Sterne-Resort der Insel: dem The Tongsai Bay Cottages & Hotel.

ei angenehmen 25° Celsius vergeht die kurze Fahrt
vom Airport zum Tongsai Bay wie im Fluge. Wir werden mit offenen Armen vom General Manager, Herrn
Thanakorn Hootrakul, empfangen und durch einen Palmenwald zu
unserer Villa gebracht. Durch die Bäume hindurch kann ich einen
Blick auf den traumhaften, 200m langen Privatstrand werfen. Ein
leichter Windhauch kommt von der paradiesischen Bucht und die
Stimmen exotischer Vögel veranlassen uns, leiser zu sprechen. Der
Zauber von Ko Samui beginnt zu wirken.
Ich beschließe, ein Willkommensbad unter freiem Himmel in der
einladenden Badewanne auf unserer Terrasse zu nehmen. Danach
habe ich für meinen Mittagschlaf die Wahl
zwischen dem Gazebo, dem mit edlen Antiquitäten eingerichteten thailändischen Freiluft-Schlafzimmer, oder dem klimatisierten
Schlafzimmer unserer Villa. Kein störendes
Geräusch dringt zu mir, alle lauten Wassersportarten sind untersagt. Jedoch kann sich
der Gast hinreichend mit Segeln auf dem
Katamaran, Kanu fahren, Windsurfen oder
Schnorcheln im Meer vergnügen.
Hungrig erwache ich und so zieht es uns
zu Tu, dem ,King of Wok’ im Floyd’s Beach
Bistro, der Fisch und frische Meeresfrüchte ganz nach unseren
Wünschen für uns zubereitet. Die authentische Küche der Region
und aus ganz Thailand ist in Chef Chom’s Thai Restaurant zu
genießen. Rinderfilet in Panaeng Curry und Fish Satay gehören zu
den Köstlichkeiten, die wir Chef Chom zu verdanken haben. Wer
Überraschungen liebt, dem sei das Butler’s Restaurant wärmstens
empfohlen: Jeden Tag steht dort ein anderes exotisches Menu auf
der Karte.
Die Krönung des Luxus, des Genießens mit allen Sinnen ist
das Prana Spa. Aller mitgebrachter Stress fällt von uns ab; das Personal ist perfekt geschult und betreut uns beinahe liebevoll. Ein
anregendes Dampfbad in der offenen Laube,
der Geruch köstlicher, natürlicher Aromaöle
und dezente, wohlklingende Musik aus dem
Hintergrund harmonisieren die Energieströme
von Körper und Seele. Der Thai-Massage eilt
der Ruf voraus, die beste der Welt zu sein.
Nach dem abschließenden Blütenbad fühle
ich mich durch und durch erfrischt und wieder voller Tatendrang.
Es gibt noch viel zu genießen hier im
Tongsai Bay, dem Sonnentempel des Wohlbefindens!

round 258 sea miles south of Bangkok, we land on the 247 km2 island of Ko Samui, which, already on first glance, appears to
promise everything which we, as travellers, long for all year round, namely sun, glorious white beaches, luxury and of course a touch
of the exotic. We are drawn to Ko Samui by the coral gardens at Tong Takien, the waterfalls at Hin Lat and Na Muang and, not least, by the
island’s first 5-star resort, The Tongsai Bay Cottages & Hotel.
W
ith a pleasant 25°C, the short journey from the
airport to Tongsai Bay flies by. General Manager,
Thanakorn Hootrakul welcomes us with open arms
and brings us to our villa through a forest of palms. Through the trees,
I catch a glimpse of the wonderful 200 m long private beach. A light wind
comes from the paradise bay and the sounds of exotic birds make us
speak quieter – Ko Samui begins to weave its magic.
I decide to take an open air welcome bath in the inviting bathtub
on our terrace. After this, for my afternoon rest, I have the choice of
the gazebo, the Thai open-air bedroom elegantly furnished with antiques, or the air conditioned room of our villa. There are no disturbing
sounds, loud water sports are not allowed here. Nevertheless, guests
can enjoy sailing on the catamaran, surfing or diving.
I wake up feeling hungry and so we are drawn to Tu, the ‘King of
Wok’ in Floyd’s Beach Bistro – the fresh fish and seafood here is
prepared exactly according to our wishes. Authentic cuisine from the
region, as well as from the whole of Thailand can be enjoyed in Chef
Chom’s Thai Restaurant. Beef fillet in Panaeng curry and fish satay
belong to the specialities for which we can thank Chef Chom. Those who
love surprises should try the Butler’s Restaurant – there is a different
exotic menu here every day.
The crowning glory of all this luxury and enjoyment with all the
senses is the Prana Spa. Any stress which we may have felt, immediately disappears upon entering the spa. The staff are perfectly trained
and attentively see to our every wish. A stimulating steam bath in the
open arbour, the scent of the exquisite natural aromatic oils and quiet,
pleasant background music harmonise with the flow of energy in the
body and soul. Thai massage has the reputation of being the best in
the world. After the petal bath which follows, I feel thoroughly refreshed
and full of energy. There is still plenty to enjoy here in Tongsai Bay, the
sunny temple of well-being!
