Based on a similar design to the stadium in Frankfurt, it features a retractable roof that can be opened or closed in 15 minutes. The arena's predecessor closed its doors in November 2007 with a 6-1 victory for Romania against Albania in a UEFA EURO 2008 qualification match. The stadium hosted national team games and domestic cup finals, as well as being home to FC Steaua Bucureşti and FC Dinamo Bucureşti.
