History of the Catholic University
Although it was not formally founded until 1980, the Catholic University of Eichstätt looks back
on a tradition over 400 years old. Its beginnings lie in the Institute of Philosophy and Theology
founded in Eichstätt in the 16th century. In March 1980 the Apostolic See and the Free State
of Bavaria signed a concordat establishing the
„Catholic University of Eichstätt" as a university.

Around Ingolstadt | FC Bayern München – world-class soccer just 45 minutes away
Soccer is one of the most popular sporting activities in the world – so you might be interested as well. Just a short drive of
45 min by car or approx. 8 € by public transport will get you to one of Europe’s best soccer teams.
As Bayern Munich is Germany’s most successful soccer club, it is the inevitable subject of very close attention by the
German media and the German public. Bayern Munich won its 20th German Championship in the 2005/06 season.
Bayern won the European Champions league for the forth time in 2001 and also the Intercontinental World Cup
in the same year.
The futuristic design of the new soccer-only stadium features a smooth transparent shell - made up of
hundreds of inflatable cushions - acting as a projection surface to cover the stadium in waves of different colours.
With 66,000 seats and at a cost of 280 million Euros the stadium is the most expensive and among the biggest
of the 2006 World Cup. Come and see it!

A short drive of 90 minutes from Ingolstadt will bring you to Bamberg - breathe the air of past centuries and experience the world
heritage city. Endowed with one of Europe’s largest old town centers still intact, Bamberg is an outstanding cultural and
architectural highlight of every tour through Bavaria, and also the secret capital of beer! Art connoisseurs will wonder and fall into
raptures just at the concentration of ecclesiastical and profane architectural art treasures. Tourists are often surprised by the
impressive scale of the buildings, spectacular ornaments and rich decorations and details. The world cultural heritage site
fascinates visitors with its unique historical townscape that captivates guests immediately. A monumental city that has grown and
developed in more than 1,000 years. And best of all: All these treasures are within comfortable walking distance. A car or a bus
would be of little or no help at all in the small streets and alleyways of the Old Town.
