19th century German art. The collection
spans the period from the early 18th to the
beginning of the 20th century. It encompasses the different artistic movements of
the age, from late rococo and classicism to
romanticism and impressionism. One of the
earliest paintings in the collection is Januarius
Zick’s Bäuerliches Idyll (Peasant Idyll, c. 1760),
one of the latest Max Liebermann’s Selfportrait (1927).
The most striking aspect of the
collection is the way it blends
