What is Leadership Oswego County?
Leadership Oswego County (LOC) is a program that prepares a select group of county residents
to become the community leaders of the future. The participants embark on a nine-month course
of intensive study of Oswego County, its resources, countywide vital issues, and the skills
needed to become community trustees. Both an adult and youth class is available.
Who benefits from the program?
EMPLOYERS find the program provides an invaluable learning experience for their employees
by developing their leadership potential, organizational and problem solving skills, while
providing access to a broad network of community professionals and resources.
SCHOOLS find their youth are better prepared to lead both in school and in their communities.
The COMMUNITY benefits from committed and knowledgeable people who are prepared to
accept leadership positions and become trustees of our community’s future.
PARTICIPANTS gain a greater understanding of the role of “leader” through first-hand
experience in group dynamics, project and meeting management, effective communications, and
team building.
Who should apply?
Applications directly from interested individuals are encouraged, as are nominations of
employees from area businesses and organizations. An ideal candidate is someone who:
• is interested in the future of Oswego County and is willing to help shape it.
• has a sincere interest in seeking public office or board leadership roles.
• is able to commit the time and energy needed to complete the program.
• demonstrates leadership qualities in their professional and/or personal life.

Welcome to Leadership Oswego County!
Leadership Oswego County is a resource for all of us and has many achievements to celebrate.
This intense program prepares a select group of individuals to become better community
leaders. Participants embark on a nine-month course of intensive study and emerge equipped
with the skills and techniques necessary to maximize their natural leadership qualities. During
their course of study they are instilled with enthusiasm and responsibility of civic engagement.
To date, we have graduated twenty-one adult classes and fourteen youth classes and we are
proud to have over 460 dedicated Leadership Alumni.
As each class graduates, they are challenged to answer the question: What contributions can we
make to our community? They are encouraged to dream and share their hopes and visions; they
are encouraged to act as stewards for their neighbors and fellow citizens and maybe most
important, they are encouraged to use their leadership education as a pathway to our lifelong
responsibility to build and sustain a healthy community.
There are numerous individuals who work hard to make this program a success. These
dedicated volunteers design the activities for each class day, do fund-raising, recruit and select
class members and serve as ambassadors for the program in the community.
Our Leadership Program is also very fortunate to have the financial support of many
businesses and organizations in the community. Whether the contribution is sponsoring a
student for the program or a donation at one of the many giving levels, we thank you for your
continued support. Please feel confident that we will do our best to graduate students prepared
to accept Leadership positions in your organizations and the community as a whole.
This yearbook is a wonderful opportunity to showcase Leadership Oswego County and our
successful Class of 2014. Look carefully at the class pictures – In our graduates you will see
vision, commitment, dedication and even a hint of the “fun” they have experienced this year.
They are ready, willing and able to serve our Oswego Community – so call on them – this
program is really for you!!!
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Grimshaw, Director
Office of Business and Community Relations
