There have been a lot of exciting things
happening within the company since
our last newsletter. First among them is
the acquisition of R & G Transport based
out of Regina, Saskatchewan. R & G is
a niche petroleum carrier that has been
operating for over 50 years by the Schulz
family. Brothers Randy and Roland along
with their mother Marge have joined us
in various capacities. We are very excited
about the growth that R & G can bring the
Seaboard Group not only in the province of
Saskatchewan but in the northern states
of North Dakota and Montana. We have
also expanded into the dry bulk business
in New Brunswick with the purchase of
MPM Trucking consisting of dry bulk
truck and trailers along with experienced
drivers. The third area of growth is the
start up of a coal contract with a new
customer in Sydney, Cape Breton. Seaboard
was heavily involved in the coal hauling
business in the 1990’s and we are excited
to be back transporting coal along the
highways of Industrial Cape Breton.

The trucking industry continues to see a
number of changes. We are seeing further
consolidation in the industry whereby very
large trucking companies are acquiring
smaller companies. Seaboard continues
to search for more opportunities to
acquire trucking and logistics companies
that add value to our group. The
landscape of the petroleum industry also
continues to change as refineries close
and more independent marketers grow
in the industry. Seaboard will focus on
maintaining and improving our market
share across Canada in this segment of our
business.
Harmac has been preparing for its
upcoming re-verification as a Responsible
Care Partner. Harmac had a very successful
2011 re-verification. Since then, the
Harmac Team has been working diligently
on further implementation of the “plan, do,
check, act” responsible care continuous
improvement discipline into our work
streams. We look forward to another
positive re-verification outcome.
I want to congratulate all those who have
achieved service and safety awards this
year. Our awards program focuses on 5
and 10 years’ of service and safe driving.
We have several holiday parties planned
across the country for our various branded
companies where the majority of these
awards will be given out.
Please take the time to read our newsletter
to get informed on what is happening
across our company.
Thank you and have a great holiday
season.

Corporate Email Distribution
List: Attention Drivers and Fleet
Maintenance Staff
In response to the April 2013 Employee Satisfaction Survey
a gap was identified in corporate communication. Many of
our announcements were not reaching our drivers and fleet
maintenance staff across Canada. The barrier that we faced here
is that our drivers and mechanics do not have a corporate email
account. However, it is very important to us that everyone receive
all relevant corporate updates and announcements.
Therefore, at this time we would like to welcome all drivers and
fleet maintenance staff who do not have a company email address
to send us your personal email address to be added to the corporate
announcement distribution list. Please be advised that participation
is purely voluntary. We will be creating a distribution list to ensure
all relevant corporate communications reach our driving staff and
fleet maintenance staff.
If you are interested in being included on this distribution list please
email [email protected] with the following information.

Salvation Army
Angel Tree Program
The employees at Seaboard Transport in
Dartmouth, NS are eagerly choosing Angel
Tree Tags from their Christmas tree to support
the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Campaign.
Each tag has a gender and age of a child
and employees can choose a tag to
purchase a gift for that child. At the end
of November, the Salvation Army picks
up the presents to be distributed to the
children participating in the campaign.
This has been an ongoing tradition at our

Mantei’s Update
Mantei’s Transport had one of the busiest summers in
company history. With many new faces working within the
Mantei’s Team, coupled with a strong group of core long-term
employees we are preparing for the winter season and a busy
2014. There are many significant business changes awaiting
the operation in 2014. Federated Co-op will be transitioning
the Regina to Calgary lane into Carseland, AB decreasing the
forecasting requirements for this piece of business. Federated
Co-op has also transitioned the Edmonton sites to be supplied
from Regina which has contributed to a significant increase
in mileage for us. Other changes ahead include a transition
of some of the Suncor sites to be supplied by our Edmonton
orbit. Needless to say, there will be a great deal of customer
requirement changes presented to the Mantei’s team next year.
We would like to sincerely thank our Fleet Maintenance Staff,
Driving Staff and Office Staff for your hard work and flexibility
in 2013. We look forward to a busy and exciting 2014.

Business Update:
Wiebe Transport
Season’s greetings from the Wiebe Team!
There is a lot of news from our Wiebe operations and
maintenance facilities from this summer and fall, including:
1. We are happy to report that we have taken control of our
truck and trailer maintenance. Over the last five years
Wiebe Transport Grande Prairie has outsourced our fleet’s
Preventative Maintenance. As a result, we did not see our
equipment very often, some equipment only once a year
at inspection time. Over time, this proved to be very costly
and time-consuming. Certain items that should have been
caught during regular service intervals were overlooked
which resulted in premature failures. We appreciate our
drivers who brought these concerns to our attention in
the employee satisfaction survey. We are confident that
this change will result in higher quality within our fleet
maintenance operations.
2. We have also installed computers in all of our shops
and have begun using a program called Transman.
Technicians now log-in and log-out each time they work
on a piece of equipment to track quality and efficiency.
Also, parts are scanned directly to the work order which
eliminates the manual data-entry process. This will give
us a more accurate maintenance cost for each unit moving
forward.
3. Our Grande Prairie shop is now open 7 days a week. We
started a new shift program where the shop and parts
staff work a 4-on / 4-off rotational shift from 7:00am to
7:30pm. Because our drivers and dispatchers work 7 days
a week, this change made sense to offer optimal support
to our operation. Once again, thank you to the employees
who made this suggestion on the employee satisfaction
survey.
4. Our Sherwood Park fleet maintenance center also moved
away from a third party contractor that was in place
for a number of years and is now staffed by company
employees. The objectives here are to streamline our
maintenance systems, increase quality standards and
maintain consistent processes across the company. A
big thank you to all of you that had a part in making this
happen and for suggesting this change.
5. Due to popular demand, we are now operating dispatch
functions out of Sherwood Park as well as Grande Prairie.
We now have 2 highly skilled dispatchers based out of
our Sherwood Park location to provide improved dispatch
support to our driving staff. This was a reoccurring
suggestion on the employee satisfaction survey and we
are pleased to have made this change happen in the
interest of increasing driver satisfaction and operational
effectiveness.

ERP EAST
Fly Ash
We are very excited to announce the acquisition of Bulk
Pneumatic (pressurized tanks) assets from MPM Trucking in
Bathurst, NB in August of 2013. We are pleased to say that the
drivers of MPM Trucking chose to be employed by Seaboard,
and service the needs of our fly ash customers.
I am very pleased to announce that our Maritime operations
group has been successful in renewing their contract work
with Imperial Oil for an additional three years. The contract
was not tendered as is the normal practice with Imperial Oil.
The primary reasons given were; the long term relationship
we have developed with this valued account, the high levels
of safety and service and the “Get It Done” attitude that this
group demonstrates every day. An example of this would
be the emergency jet movements that we experienced this
past summer. To Joe Johnson and his team of dedicated
dispatchers, drivers and lease operators: thank you for your
continuing efforts and support.
Seaboard was successful in securing a contract with Separation
Technologies Canada to provide trucks and pneumatic tankers
to STI which are located at the NB Power Belledune Generating
Station. The tankers are loaded with fly ash and transported to
various cement plants in NB, PEI and NS.
ERP CENTRAL
We would like to welcome Richard Hills, Danny Glendenning,
Gary Whelton and Donnie Doucette to the Seaboard group of
companies.
New business opportunities have been secured in our Ontario
operations group. We are just beginning a haulage contract
that we secured with Shell Canada. Our operations team
based at our Arrow Road facility have been given the task of
transporting 10 loads per day of ULSD until the end of March.
Stage two of this Shell requirement will be transporting jet
fuel for an extended period of time which could entail hauling
as much as 20 loads per day directly into the Toronto Pearson
Airport. Both products are being sourced from the Shell Sarnia
Refinery. This again demonstrates our team’s ability to respond
to a customer demand outside of our normal contract as this
new volume is related to pipeline capacity servicing the GTA
market.
ERP WEST
Seaboard Bulk Terminals, or SBT, is entering into the final
stages of the Carseland Terminal start up. The expected
opening is early 2014 and we are staffed and ready for this new
venture to begin. SBT will be operating the rail terminal, truck
loading and card lock operations for Consumers Cooperative
Refinery.
R&G Transport, our newest member of the Seaboard group,
is growing with the addition of new lease operators based in
Regina in late October. Lease operators are something new
to the R&G company and we look forward to future growth
opportunities within their lease operator fleet.
Our Western Canadian operations continue to be a growth
market, volumes are sustained and we are looking forward to a
very busy winter season.

Coal fly ash, is the particulate matter collected by pollutioncontrol equipment from the smokestacks of coal-burning power
plants. Fly ash represents upwards of 25% of the cement. The
Fly ash increases the durability of the cement. Although this
work is seasonal in our part of the country, we are looking
forward to a strong season in 2014 with planned growth in the
bulk tanker business.

Development Update
2013 has been a steady year in sales. We retained our regular
customers and added numerous new accounts which matched
up nicely with our primary lanes particularly for our Highway

In our HDL division (Liquid Chemical & Moncton), we have
been focused on adding new accounts for our primary lanes,
both headhaul and backhaul. We have been successful in
adding many new small to midsized accounts and hope to grow
them into larger accounts. We have also been successful in
renewing our Metered Lube business for a further term and
look forward to future growing that business. In addition we
have secured some waste projects both in Atlantic and Central
that blended nicely with our Chemical business.
We are pleased to welcome into our HDL Division our new
Business Development Manager – Reefer & Specialized
Services, Thiery Valade. Thiery is based in the Montreal area
and is focused on developing new business for our Highway
Reefer, Van and Flat deck divisions. Thiery has been with us

“After receiving the Seaboard Transport Group of Companies
Educational Scholarship for the 2013-2014 academic year, it
has really made me want to continue with my community
involvement after being rewarded in such a way. This
scholarship goes strictly towards my studies as I have
now begun my first year at the University of Regina. It has
allowed me to experiment with classes I may not have
chose at the beginning of the year, as I establish what I may
want to do with my future. I hope to continue with helping
the community in every way I can in hopes to re-apply for
this scholarship next year; as it has been very rewarding
and helpful in my first year transitioning into adult hood. I
thoroughly enjoy my involvement in the equestrian world
and giving my knowledge to the younger kids around the
barn. I hope that this is a trait I will carry with me for quite
some time and being recognized for it has surely helped with
driving me to want to make a difference.”

Kilkare Transport, Seaboard Multiple Unique Contractor, showed its support for the Special Olympics by participating in the world’s largest truck convoy for
Special Olympics. It was the second year that the event was held in Nova Scotia. Truck drivers and trucking companies from across the province took part,
with hundreds of people lining the street. More than 100 truckers registered and raised approximately $25,000 to support the cause.
Nick and David MacKenzie, owners of Kilkare Transport Ltd., noted the company entered seven trucks in the convoy. Including drivers’ family members,
estimated they had about 25 people taking part in the event. It was the first time that their company participated. They learned about it through the
provincial trucking association.
It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of Carol Raessler
after 30 years of dedicated service with Mantei’s Transport. Carol joined
the Mantei’s team in Edmonton in 1983 working for the Mantei’s family
as an office clerk, and eventually managing the Edmonton office. She has
trained, and coached many employees over her 30 years, always stepping
up to do whatever was required.
Carol was presented with flowers and a gold & diamond ring upon her
retirement in September. We wish Carol all the best in the next phase of
her life.

Train the Trainer Update
Shown here are the most recent participants of the companysponsored Seaboard Transport Leadership Training program held
at the Arrow Road Facility in North York, Toronto from Sept 25th
– 27th, 2013.
Again, the program was well represented from participants
across the country. It provides a great venue for interaction,
sharing of ideas and experiences, and allows feedback for
continuous improvement.
The program was initially designed for HSE personnel and driver
trainers, however; it was identified last year that with a few
changes to format we could add value by extending this program
to all employees that hold a leadership position.
We were pleased to offer a special welcome to our first participant
from R&G Transport out of Regina Saskatchewan.
The program overviews modules such as the fundamentals
of safety, communication and listening, understanding of the
leadership role, addressing adversity, presentation skills, incident
investigation, contributors and root causes, and behavioral
assessments.
This program will run for approximately one year with this being
the first of three modules. The second module will take place in
Dartmouth, NS early in the New Year.
10
If you have interest in this program, please discuss with your
immediate supervisor for more information and to obtain an
endorsement for upcoming programs.
The invitation is extended to all potential driver trainers, all
employees in a leadership position, across the country in all
divisions.

Workplace Wellness – Cold & Flu Season
It’s that time of year again where the sniffles come creeping up on you, and before
you know it you are coughing, sneezing, and coming down with a common cold or
flu. The common cold and the flu are often respiratory system illnesses, which are
easily passed from one person to another in the workplace. Often, these viruses
are spread by sneezing and coughing, leaving droplets of viral infections or
bacteria on surfaces or in the air which is then inhaled by others.
These viruses can be easily picked up around the workplace, so why not be
proactive and take the first step in avoiding the common cold or flu this season by
implementing these tips as part of your daily routine.
Healthy Eating:
The good old saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor
away” may not just be a saying for you this season.
Implementing fruits, vegetables and a healthy diet into your
daily eating habits, will help support your imune system.
This will give your body all the various vitamins, minerals,
and other nutrients that you need.
Work Place Hygiene:
Most cold and flu viruses are spread by direct contact.
Proper hygiene is the most effective protection for the flu
by preventing the spread of the virus from one person to
the next. Taking the extra steps in washing your hands,
or using an alcohol based sanitizer will help eliminate the
bacterial viral spread in the workplace.
A Good Night’s Rest:
Who doesn’t love a good night’s rest? Getting enough good
quality sleep has been shown to decrease your chance of
getting a cold. Now that’s the easy part, but how can you
get longer, better quality sleep? Try implementing some of
these small changes in your sleeping patterns:
• Keeping a consistent sleep routine
• Say no to caffeine, nicotine and alcohol before bed
• Take time to wind down before bed
• Create a positive sleeping environment
• Don’t hit the bed with a full stomach
Stay Active:
If you want to prevent getting a cold this season, then
regular, moderate exercise may be just what the doctor
ordered. Findings show that exercise helps your immune
system fight simple infections such as colds and flu.
Exercise also helps ward off the big stuff like heart disease,
type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, and some kinds of cancer.
Employment Equity
Update – Question
and Answer Session:
Q. Under employment equity
will members of the designated
groups be given preferential
treatment in the workplace?
A. No, employment equity is a program that
encourages inclusion instead of exclusion.
Employment equity does not create barriers
or deny entrance to anyone who does not
belong to a designated group. Employment
equity seeks to eliminate barriers so
everyone has an equal opportunity to
compete for jobs.
Q. What initiatives is the
company working on to
engage a variety of potential
employees?
A. The recruiting and HR team has dedicated
themselves to using a variety of hiring tools
including our new company website and
Kijiji. This ensures everyone has access to
the same job postings. Recently we have
started to review how to attract more female
drivers to our company. This initiative will
be launched by speaking with our current
female drivers, featuring them in our 20
questions segment in this issue as well as
creating advertisements directed towards
female drivers. If you have any ideas or
suggestions on how to make our company
more attractive or friendly towards female
drivers please reach out to the HR team at
[email protected].
You can also see our commitment to
Employment Equity on our website at:

Dress Warm:
With the weather slowly changing, I think it’s safe to say
we can ditch our favorite pair of shorts and pull out our
favorite sweaters. Although it takes more than just dressing
warm to not catch a cold it’s probably not a bad idea to stay
warm and comfortable, especially if you already feel a cold
coming on.
This season don’t isolate yourself with your tissue box…
be proactive! Implement these tips as part of your daily
routine, allowing yourself to enter the New Year happy,
healthy, and strong.

Update: 2013 Employee Satisfaction Survey
In April of 2013, we launched the first National Employee Satisfaction Survey for all driving staff, fleet maintenance staff and office staff
across the country. The purpose of this survey was to initiate a two-way dialogue between our employees and our management team
in order to better understand common employee challenges and take actions to improve the work experience for our employees. Our
strategy has been to make changes based on the feedback we received directly from our employees in order to increase employee
engagement, reduce turnover and improve job satisfaction.
With a better understanding of our employees’ concerns and challenges, we have begun planning and executing specific action items
to address the more prominent issues identified in the survey. We sincerely thank those who took the time to provide their feedback
on the survey. For those who did not participate, please take the time to complete our next employee survey in 2014. The feedback
provided by employees is completely confidential.
We would like to remind everyone that the changes we will be making will take place over time. To make an impact on each group will
