the world.
Ars Electronica Center
This museum of the future and technology
with its interactive adventure world has an
illuminated facade, which is visible far and
wide, and houses exciting exhibitions on
the integration of digital art and technology

Hauptplatz and the Linz city centre With its baroque facades and the Trinity
Column, the largest urban square in
Europe is the ideal starting point for a city
stroll with shopping along Landstraße and
into the Linz city centre.
Mariendom
On the one hand, the New Cathedral is the
largest church in Austria, and on the other,
a haven of peace at the heart of the city,
which invites you to pause and take time to
think – something that is also symbolised
by the Turmeremiten, or tower hermits.
Musiktheater am Volksgarten
The most modern opera house in Europe
opened its doors for the first time in April
2013 and since then, has been one of the
cultural highlights in the UNESCO City of
Media Arts. With the Schauspielhaus and
the Kammerspiele an der Promenade as well
as the u\hof: Theater für Junges Publikum,
the OÖ Landestheater has four venues.

Culture – Nature – Business
a triad for Linz
In Linz, you‘ll find the most modern music theatre in Europe and a
vibrant contemporary culture scene as well as a thriving economy with
leading global companies. It is not only in the fantastically maintained
Old Town that the legendary green city‘s connection to its long history
is expressed. Even so, Linz looks to the future – and discovers a zest
for life in the here and now. This city entices you to be curious, to
discover and try new things, and to relax and slow down. Culture is
inspirational, allows you to recognise connections and to pause and
reflect, for a fulfilled life.
As a centre of media arts, Linz makes possible new perspectives and
innovations in culture, business and society. Being a UNESCO City of
Media Arts offers opportunities to create an ambience that makes Linz
attractive as a Creative City on a national and international scale from
a cultural, business and societal point of view.
By joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, Linz commits to
creating new impulses for developing the city and establishing its
reputation as a centre of creative industries.

Hauptplatz and Dreifaltigkeitssäule
Linz Linien: 1, 2, 3 – Hauptplatz
The 20-metre-high Trinity Column, which was completed in 1723, is
made of white marble. A typical symbol of the baroque period, it was
built out of gratitude for having survived catastrophes, and as a protection against war, fire and plague. Linz‘s Hauptplatz, with an area of
about 13,200 m², has been one of Europe‘s largest enclosed squares
since the 13th century. It soon became an important marketplace on
the Danube.
3
Linzer Schloss
Schlossberg 1, 4020 Linz, Linz Linien: 1, 2, 3 – Hauptplatz
Emperor Frederick III resided here until his death in 1493. Today, you
can still admire the defensive walls of his castle, the bastions and the
Friedrichstor gate bearing the inscription A.E.I.O.U. (which assumedly
stands for Alles Erdreich ist Österreich Untertan or All the Earth is subject to Austria). The current building dates from the 17th century and
houses the Schlossmuseum. The great city-wide fire of 1800 destroyed
the south wing, which was reconstructed in a modern steel and glass
architectural design and opened to the public in 2009, the year that
Linz was the European Capital of Culture.
TIP: On the terrace, you can see the world‘s second-largest cast-iron
model city!
4
Open-air gallery with 50 facade paintings (some of which are oversized) by graffiti artists from 20 countries, including big names like
Aryz, Roa, Nychos, oomit and Stohead. Tip: The best place from which
to admire the artwork is on a Danube boat, during one of the regular
harbour tours in the summer months.

and can be booked at the DomCenter:
