Three weeks later, they won a gold medal at the OARS Masters Invitational at Turkey Lake in Orlando. Rowing is a great way to exercise in a beautiful environment, and have fun with new friends. Page 6 RULES & REGS CORNER GROUNDS CORNER Rules & Regs Committee The Facilitators Grounds Committee "Little Things Mean A Lot" was a pop song in the 50s but it is also an apt description for how an accumulation of seemingly "little things"can effect the appearance of The Isles. Next Meeting: Thursday, May 5, 2016 @ 1:00pm in the Town Center. Some areas are now at or nearly a decade old. Inevitably, there are a few signs of mild deterioration. Examples observed include missing house numbers and window sills and frames that need a fresh coat of paint. May is a beautiful month in The Isles, thus making it a good time to do an inspection of your property and see if there are any "little things" that need touching up. Thanks in advance for your usual cooperation. The May meeting of our Rules & Regs Committee will be in the card room @ 9:00 on the 17th. All are welcome. GARDEN CORNER Updates from ValleyCrest May 2016 The dry season is here and the natural rains are not coming as frequently. Jeff McLain and the irrigation crews are diligently checking hot spots and adjusting the system as needed. The turf looks to be in good shape throughout the property. Very little insect activity or fungus is present. Healthy turf in the spring will suppress many of the potential damaging insects or fungus that will affect summer turf. The lubbers have been spotted at the clubhouse and at several residences; these insects can cause damage very quickly because they attack the plant material in large groups. Chris Crawford and the detail crew continue to provide a quick and thorough pruning of the plant material. He is on schedule to be through the property in 4.5 weeks again even with plants starting to flush out. The focus is on crack and crevice weeds and landscape beds they are pulling and spraying the areas that they are detailing currently and doubling back with the mowing crew to ensure that weeds are under control. On April 18 the company changed from ValleyCrest to BrightView. The changes that you will notice now are rebranding of all vehicles to BrightView, but the biggest changes are the look of our crews. Our gardeners have changed from the ValleyCrest red to the BrightView green or blue and the vests have changed from orange to yellow. Each employee will have a name tag and gardeners will wear green shirts and crew leaders are in blue, this will help identify who is in charge of the crews. Look for landscaping changes to occur around clubhouse and tennis courts in the next couple of weeks. BrightView takes pride in maintaining your lawn and landscape and Appreciates your Loyalty! Sam Passafiume Branch Manager - Sarasota BrightView Landscape Maintenance, Inc. Page 8 First CERT Bike Patrol in Sarasota County started in The Isles on Palmer Ranch on Feb. 27. A newly formed and carefully trained Isles CERT Bike Patrol performed very effectively during the recent February Tornado Drill in The Isles. As Ed McCrane, Sarasota County Emergency Management Chief stated, “This new and effective Bike Patrol made a tremendous difference in the time required by CERT teams in responding to a call for help. Congratulations to The Isles Bike Patrol for starting a most effective new process for assisting CERT teams in responding to a community emergency. (Pictured Karen & Rob Le Baron, Denny Fleugel, Jim Corso, Nick Trippodo, Ron Curtin & Robert Parnell) THE ISLES ADT Information “Sarasota County requires all security alarm users to register with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s office. “ You can find the Emergency contact form at the following web site. www.Sarasotasheriff.org Go to the Public interest (Drop Box) and click alarm forms (Residential). Call the ADT Community Association Program reps at 1-800-878-7806. Newly Licensed Ham Operators The newly licensed Amateur Radio Operators now in the Isles. Congratulations to Kevin, Guy and Ann on studying for and passing the examinations to obtain their licenses recently. Stan has been licensed since 1958 and provided a helping hand to the new "Hams". Guy, Ann and Stan provided critical communications from the Isles CERT Drill to the Sarasota County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during the recent simulated tornado drill. They relayed messages to and from the EOC to practice procedures that will be used in any real emergency situation. This would be very important if existing land-line or cell phone services were interrupted during a severe storm, for instance. The Isles will now have yearround Amateur Radio communications capability in case of a real emergency. ” Want to know what’s going on at the Ranch?
