WELCOME
TO IRONMAN muskoka
Mitch Fraser
Race Director
Welcome athletes to the 1st annual Subaru IRONMAN Muskoka. This event
has been long awaited and we couldn’t be more pleased to present it to
you. It seems fitting that I return as the race director for this event. I have
been a part of the development of the sport of triathlon for almost 30 years
and since Muskoka hosted the ITU World Championships in 1992 . Muskoka
has embraced our sport and over the last 23 years has become one the
most loyal and dedicated triathlon communities throughout North America.
They have hosted Sprint events, Kids events, 5150 events and Long Course
Events featuring the Subaru Muskoka Chase. On Sunday, August 30th,
you will be included in the very long list of amazing triathletes that have
competed here!
This event symbolizes so much for so many but we can’t help but feel sentimental as I look back on how far we have come. There are many people
that need to be credited for seeing this race come to fruition. Subaru is first
and foremost who comes to mind. They have not only been a part of our
world for 25 + years but they have been the true backbone of the sport of
triathlon in Canada. We have grown along with them. Our relationship over
the years has been more than just business and I believe that shows at all
of the events they support. They will always go that extra mile to show us!
Thank you to Tod Sullivan and Geoff Craig for their valued and continual
support and for having faith in what we do as event promoters. You have
always been “triathlon believers” and we are eternally grateful.
We would also be remiss if we did not send out a grateful thankful for all
the time and support over the years from so many people. Thank you Don
McCormick. We have gone through so much together and will always look
to you as our mentor. Thank you Rich Trenholm, Kari Lambe, Steve Sadonja,
Harold Featherston, Jackie Parris, Dave Mucyk, Nick Stoehr , Greg Nicol,
Lisa Bentley, Lyle Harris and Janet; it’s been a blast. Together with the
good people of Huntsville, Dwight, Lake of Bays and along with the super
passionate folks of Trimuskoka we welcome you. We have all worked hard
to get here; to get to this moment we have all been waiting for. Whether
you are an athlete, a sponsor, a volunteer or coordinator; we will all feel the
same sense of pride on race day.
Be safe, be strong and watch for us cheering you on at the finish line! We
couldn’t be more proud!
Mitch Fraser
Race Director,

MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD REFEREE
IRONMAN will operate under the “three strikes and you’re out” principle. Even
though DRAFTING and LITTERING are the only two violations to incur a time
penalty (to be served in the closest penalty tent, located along the bike course),
every type of violation counts toward your three strikes, and every bike course
violation requires a stop in a penalty tent. Any penalties incurred on the run
course are to be served at the point of infraction. Any combination of three
Violations results in a DSQ.
Jimmy Riccitello
IRONMAN HEAD REFEREE
So that you understand the rules on race day, please take the time to read and
understand the rules in the Athlete Guide and the 2015 IRONMAN Competition
Rules.
DRAFTING VIOLATION
BLUE CARD
The POSITION violations are summarized:
five minute time penalty
served in a penalty tent on
the bike course
Always ride on the right side of your lane to avoid an ILLEGAL POSITION or
BLOCKING call.
LITTERING VIOLATION
Keep five bike lengths of clear space between your bike’s front wheel and the
rear wheel of the cyclist in front of you to avoid a DRAFTING call.
BLUE CARD
Always pass on the left of the cyclist in front of you; Never on the right to
avoid an ILLEGAL PASS call. Complete your pass within 20 seconds to avoid a
DRAFTING call.
five minute time penalty
served in a penalty tent on
the bike course
Passed athletes must be seen making immediate and constant rear progress
out of the drafting zone to avoid a DRAFTING call.
BLOCKING VIOLATION
YELLOW CARD
Triathlon is an individual event, and it is your responsibility to fully understand
the rules and avoid penalties. The referee’s ruling is final in the case of
POSITION violations, and there are no protests or appeals. Other common
violations include:
stop and go time penalty
served at the next penalty
tent
DISQUALIFICATION (DSQ)
!
HELMET CHINSTRAP
Your chinstrap must be securely fastened whenever you are on your bike
on race day.
!
RACE NUMBER
You must wear your bib number during the run portion of the race. In
addition, your bike frame sticker must be properly attached to your bike
frame and must be visible from both sides.
!
LITTERING
Do not throw ANYTHING outside of official aid stations. Littering will result
in a five minute time penalty.
!
UNAUTHORIZED EQUIPMENT
Sorry, absolutely NO communication devices, MP3 players or other audio
devices. (Yes, that means NO cell phones).
!
OUTSIDE ASSISTANCE
Non-racers may NOT ride or run alongside you.
!
TIME PENALTIES
Remember that even though DRAFTING and LITTERING are the only
violations that incur a five minute time penalty, you must go to a penalty
tent for any violation to have your number marked, and all violations count
toward your three strikes. There will be no penalty tents on the run. If you
are penalized on the run, the official will mark your number on the spot.
RED CARD
Any combination of three
violations will result in race
disqualification.
Please treat other athletes, all volunteers, and your referees with courtesy
and consideration. Not doing so is UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT and
may result in disqualification. I sincerely hope you have a great race and
achieve all your goals.

Pre-Race INFORMATION
Athlete Check-In
Personal Communication Plan
Athlete Check-In hours are Thursday, August 27 and Friday, August
28 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Deerhurst Resort - Legacy Hall. Please
note that Athlete Check-In will NOT be open on Saturday or race day.
If you do not check-in during the designated Athlete Check-In hours
you will not be able to race. ALL RACE PACKETS MUST BE PICKED
UP BY 5 P.M. ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 28.
Prior to departing for Muskoka, be sure to establish a communications plan with family and friends back home. Share the race day
emergency contact listed below with those who may need to reach
you in an emergency. Even if you are in Muskoka with family and
friends, it is essential that you have a plan for contacting or reuniting
with your group following the race.
Please bring the following items with you to Athlete Check-In:
• Photo Identification
• If you did not purchase a one-day license online, you must bring
your Triathlon Ontario card to show proof of current Triathlon
Ontario membership or $15 CDN to purchase a one-day license.
• If you are a professional athlete, you are required to submit
Race Day Emergency Contact

proof of professional status at check-in
Please Note: Athletes competing in IRONMAN events are
required to check-in at the venue during the dates and times
listed in the Athlete Guide and Event Schedule. Athlete Check-In
will not be available outside the posted times. Should an athlete
have a legitimate emergency, IRONMAN will try to accommodate
the athlete to the best of our ability as long as the athlete informs
IRONMAN. To inform IRONMAN of any emergency during race week,
athletes must call the EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBER listed above.
Athletes who show up after the posted check-in dates and times
will not be allowed to race unless prior arrangements were made
via the emergency phone. These rules are in effect for a number of
important reasons and exist to make your experience the best, safest and most stress-free it can be.
The scheduling of Athlete Check-In is designed to allow each athlete
the opportunity to become oriented with the venue, acclimated to
the area and receive all the necessary information needed to have a
successful race.
Mandatory Athlete Briefings will be held Friday evening and Saturday Morning (please check the event schedule for times and locations) and are hosted for the benefit of all athletes. The briefings will
cover important information pertaining to any peculiarities of the
course, rules and cut-off times for the disciplines and most importantly any last minute changes or procedures to the event that have
occurred, or may potentially occur due to weather related forecasts.
It is equally important for athletes to have ample time to check-in
their bike and other gear and to make sure all bases are covered
leading up to race day. Rushing to complete all necessary tasks
within a couple of hours is counterproductive to race preparation.
It also creates additional pressure on event staff who work under a
tight deadline to execute an IRONMAN event.
Competing in an IRONMAN event is a significant endeavor and requires proper planning for your safety and the safety of your fellow
competitors, the volunteers, event staff and the hosting community.
Thank you for your cooperation. We want to ensure the very best
experience for you, not only on race day, but throughout the weekend’s activities.
Mandatory Athlete Briefings
Athletes are required to attend one of the Mandatory Athlete
Briefings offered throughout race week. Please review the Event
Schedule for Briefing times.
Athlete Guide: 2.4 SWIM • 112 BIKE • 26.2 RUN
Personal Safety
Always train with at least one other person (especially in the open
water). While swimming, please wear a brightly colored swim cap
and ensure that your family members and/or friends know where
you are. When training, please bike and run on the shoulder without
moving into the traffic lane. Please be courteous and aware that the
people sharing the roads with you are people you will count on during race day to fulfill your physical and emotional needs. Please ride
single file, as biking side by side is illegal.
As you are one of Muskoka’s invited guests, please respect and obey
the traffic laws during your training practices. Violators will be cited.
You are required to carry proper identification at all times. If you are
stopped, you must present your identification to the inquiring officer.
Failure to do so may result in race disqualification. Your cooperation
is appreciated.
Athlete Wristband
A wristband printed with your race number will be affixed to your
wrist at Athlete Check-In. This band will identify you as an official
athlete and must be worn during race week. The wristband is required for medical identification purposes and allows you access to
transition and post-race athlete recovery areas.
You will not be allowed to remove your bicycle and/or gear from
transition following the race without your wristband affixed to your
wrist. Please do not remove your wristband before the IRONMAN
Athlete Celebration, as it will identify you as an athlete.
PLEASE NOTE: Athletes must wear all official race participant
items issued at Athlete Check-In. Items include; the official swim
cap, wristband, bike stickers, race bib number, and timing chip. Failure to do so or wear outside items will result in a DSQ.
Bike/Run Gear Bags
And Special Needs Bags
During Athlete Check-In, athletes will receive five bags:
White [Morning Clothes]
Blue [Bike Gear]
Orange [Bike Special Needs]
Red [Run Gear]
Black [Run Special Needs]
Please Note: Special Needs bags will NOT be returned after the
race!

Pre-Race
INFORMATION conTinued
Mandatory Bike And Gear Check-In
Mandatory Bicycle and Gear Bag Check-In is Saturday, August 29
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Deerhurst Resort - Deerhurst Main Parking
Lot
Bike Check-In: Deerhurst Main Parking Lot
Bike Gear Bag Check-In: Legacy Hall
Run Gear Bag Check-In: Legacy Hall
Each athlete will be assigned a chair with their race number
attached. Place your bike bag on the seat and your run bag under
the seat. Please leave all gear bags closed Saturday in order to
prevent losing items.
All bicycles and Bike/Run Gear Bags must be checked in on Saturday and left overnight. Bicycles and Bike/Run Gear Bags will not
be permitted to enter transition on race morning. While bikes are
stored in transition, athletes will be allowed to cover their seats and
handlebars only from inclement weather. Full bike covers ARE NOT
ALLOWED as it presents a safety hazard to volunteers and other
competitors. Full bike covers will be removed from any bikes left in
transition once Bike Check-In is over. You will have access to your
bicycle beginning at 5 a.m. on race morning, but you will not be allowed to remove your bike from transition until the start of the bike
portion of the race.
Pack your bike and run gear in the appropriate gear bag and place
them in the proper place. Be sure your running gear has reflective
material on the front and back of your clothes and shoes. Helmets
and cycling shoes may be brought into transition on race morning.
Helmets and shoes may be clipped or attached to the bicycle on race
morning. No loose gear will be allowed on the ground next to the
bicycles in transition.
Bike check-in options
For those athletes not staying at Deerhurst or Hidden Valley you
will have to choose one of the following options for Bike and Gear
Check-In:
Bike check-in OPTION #1
Have your family or friends drive you directly to the resort. You will
have a limited amount of time to unload your bags and bike from the
“unloading zone”. You can then proceed through to Check-In from
there. Please be ready to unload quickly as this will be a continual
flow through of traffic. Your driver has the opportunity to drive back
to the airstrip and return to meet you using the busing system.
Bike check-in OPTION #2
Bike Valet – if you are arriving by yourself you are welcome to bring
your bike with all necessary bike stickers attached directly to the
“unloading zone” in front of Deerhurst Resort. Leave your bike with a
volunteer who will place it on a temporary bike rack until you return.
You can drive your car back to the airstrip and take the bus back to
the resort with your gear bags to complete the bike and gear bag check
in process.
Athlete Guide: 2.4 SWIM • 112 BIKE • 26.2 RUN
Bike check-in OPTION #3
Arrive at the Deerhurst Airstrip to park car and then ride bike into
Deerhurst with gear bags. This is a more difficult option.
We want you to know that the busing system works very well and
we have used this system for many years. We hope this relieves any
pre-race stress you may be feeling!
Pre-Event Swim Advisement
The majority of our events are held in locations where the swim
course utilizes a body of water that is open to the general public for
swimming, boating and other recreational and commercial activities.
IRONMAN wishes to caution all participants that it does not provide
lifeguard services prior to the event, and that all participants who
siwm prior to race day will do so at their own risk. Please also be
advised that public boating and seaplane use occur in the areas
outside of the designated swim area.
While we make reasonable efforts to inspect the swim entry and
exit points for underwater hazards, the inspection does not take
place until just before the swim discipline starts. Participants are
further admonished to exercise caution and use common sense if
they elect to swim prior to the event and to be mindful of underwater hazards. Keep in mind that this is a natural body of water and is
subject to hidden hazards including, but no limited to: currents, underwater obstructions, tides, rip currents and indigenous marine life
PLEASE NOTE: The official IRONMAN Muskoka Swim Exit
is OFF LIMITS during practice swims as it is part of Deerhurst’s
operational Golf Course.
Opening ceremony & Dine Around
The Opening Ceremony is Friday, August 28 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Downtown Huntsville - Rivermill Park. Each athlete will receive a
complimentary Dine-Around Ticket during the registration process
with a value of $25 CDN. Athletes are able to use these tickets at
participating restaurants throughout Huntsville from Thursday,
August 27, 2015 until Sunday, August 30, 2015 and has no redeemable cash value. Hold on to them tightly as we cannot issue new
tickets for those that lose them. A list of participating restaurants
will be available at registration for your planning purposes. We suggest you make advanced reservations. This is a great opportunity to
come check out Huntsville with your family. Go out to dinner; then
join us at Rivermill Park for the Mandatory Athlete Meeting. There
will be lots of fun stuff for your family to partake in including a beer
and wine garden, and a band to kick off the weekend! The Muskoka
Experience Committee is working hard to make this a very memorable evening for you and your family.

Race Dayinformation
Morning Clothes Bag
You will receive a white Morning Clothes Bag at Athlete Check-In. Prior
to the swim start on race morning, place any items (e.g., dry clothes, car
or hotel room key, meds) you may need at the finish line in your Morning Clothes Bag. Leave the bag in the designated drop area at the swim
start. Your Morning Clothes Bag may be retrieved after the race adjacent to Transition. Any items that do not fit inside the Morning Clothes
Bag, such as bike pumps and backpacks, will not be accepted.
Special Needs Bags
You will receive an orange Bike Special Needs Bag and black Run Special
Needs Bag at Athlete Check-In. A special needs station will be located
near the mid-point on the bike and run course. These special needs
stations are for special needs purposes, such as nutritional items or
an extra pair of socks, etc. Prior to the swim start, both Bike and Run
Special needs bags must be dropped off at two separate locations
on Deerhurst property. Between 4:30 a.m and 6:30 a.m. Bike Special
Needs will be dropped off at the big yellow school bus. Run special
needs bag will be dropped off in open space along Deerhurst Drive.
Look for lots of volunteer who will help you get things right. Do NOT put
anything of value in your bike or run special needs bags. Special needs
bags will NOT be returned.
Race Day Parking
The main Deerhurst Parking Lot will act as the Transition Area starting on
Thursday. Guests staying at Deerhurst will have parking on-site. Those
not staying at Deerhurst will have full parking at the Deerhurst AirStrip
and Hidden Valley Ski Chalet. There are LIMITED spots available at Hidden
Valley Ski Chalet so it will be first-come, first-serve.
There will be NO parking on Deerhurst Drive/Hidden Valley Drive as this
is a busing route. All cars that violate this rule will be towed at owners
expense. Parking in this area seriously jeopardizes the emergency access
route and busing plan. From the Deerhurst Airstrip, buses will be available
to get to and from Deerhurst.

IRONMAN reserves the right to remove an athlete from the course and
DNF the athlete if our course staff determines there is no possibility
of an athlete finishing the given discipline (swim, bike, run) before the
posted cut-off times based on an athlete’s location, time, and average
speed up to that point.
PLEASE NOTE: Athletes who finish before the midnight cut-off but have
a finishing time of more than 17 hours will be considered a DNF and will
not be eligible for age-group awards or for IRONMAN World Championship slots or rolldown slots.
Body marking will begin at 5 a.m. just inside transition. Do not number yourself expecting to bypass check-in. During the body marking process, athletes are responsible for ensuring the body marking
volunteers mark the athlete’s age as of December 31, 2015 which
corresponds with the age division in which the athlete will compete in
on race day. You will not be permitted in transition on race day without
your wristband, swim cap and MyLaps Pro Chip. If you have misplaced
any of these items, please see the transition director for a replacement.
Do not apply sunscreen, oil, Vaseline or lotion until after you have been
body marked. Transition closes at 6:30 a.m. All athletes must be out of
transition and headed to the swim before this time.

race day spectator Information
Spectator Information
Enjoying the Subaru IRONMAN Muskoka as a spectator is quite
easy. With very accessible locations to watch athletes on the bike
course, and a shuttlebus schedule that will take you right along
the run course, spectators can follow the athletes as their journey
takes them through Huntsville and Lake of Bays.
General Information
It is always great to see the athletes on the course, but please
put their safety first and foremost. Traveling in a car along the
bike or run courses to find the athlete(s) you are watching is not
recommended. This poses a danger to yourself, the athletes,
and the other regular motorists on the road. Consider taking the
shuttlebus downtown on the run course, or rent a bike so you can
bike to various parts of the bike and run course as the courses are
very accessible.
Please visit the TriMuskoka’s Spectator Information Page to get
more information, tips, and maps about where to find the best
vantage points along the race course. Here are a couple of quick
tips to start you off.
Spectator Registration
As the athletes Check-In for the race, spectators can register at a
special table that will be clearly marked, and receive a wristband.
This wristband will allow spectators to receive special discounts
at several of our local businesses on race day. At this registration,
there will be lots of information and maps about participating in
this race as a spectator.
Spectator Viewing information
Swim Course: As athletes head out towards the rising sun,
spectators can line the shores of Deerhurst Resorts waterfront
area. After the swim start, spectators should head over to the
swim exit where they can watch athletes exit onto the 18th green
of Deerhursts Lakeside
Athlete Guide: 2.4 SWIM • 112 BIKE • 26.2 RUN
Swim Exit: The climb from the swim exit to transition is a
formidable one; spectators can form a tunnel of support to
encourage athletes as they head to T1
Bike Course: After the athletes head away from Deerhurst,
spectators can make their way to Dwight by heading east along
Highway 60. A 15 minute drive will take them to the 15km mark
on the bike course, where a straight away at the Dwight Beach can
give spectators great views of the athletes.
After Dwight, spectators can head west on Highway 60, making
their way via Highway 11S to get to Baysville where they can
cheer on athletes as they pass through the second bottle exchange
in this quintessential village in Muskoka.
Run Course: The 21 km out and back route is very accessible for
spectators to see the athletes at various points on the run course.
Spectator getting around info
Downtown Shuttlebus: There will be a shuttle service running from
Deerhurst to the downtown core all day, so that spectators can
participate in the celebrations, grab a bite to eat and to explore in
historic downtown Huntsville. The shuttle will be running every
15 minutes, and takes 15 minutes to get from downtown to
Deerhurst, so you won’t miss the athletes at the finish line.
Bike Rentals: Bikes can be rented on site at Deerhurst or can be
rented from Algonquin Outfitters in downtown Huntsville if you
would like to get around that way.
Downtown Huntsville
The historic downtown of Huntsville has been an iconic backdrop for
triathlon for the last 25 years. Running on the main street with music
pumping, kids activities going on, and a tunnel of thunderous cheers,
downtown is the place to be.

Bicycle & Gear Recovery
Mandatory Bike and Gear Check-Out is from 6 p.m. to midnight in the transition area on race day. You are required to reclaim your bicycle and gear
after the race. You must have your athlete wristband on in order to claim your bike and gear. If you are unable to personally claim your bike and gear,
a family member or friend may use your Bike Check-Out ticket that will be provided in your race packet. As a precaution, give this ticket to a family
member or friend prior to the race, even if you plan to reclaim your bike and gear yourself. If a friend or family member does decide to up these items
as a courtesy, please ask them to leave a message on your cell phone so we have no panicked athletes—it happens a lot!
When your race is over and you are ready to head back home please remember to pick up your gear. If you want your family or friends to retrieve it
for you they will need to have a bike check out ticket in their possession to do so. This will be given to you at registration. You will have until midnight
on Sunday to pick up your belongings. If you are not staying at Deerhurst and came to the event by yourself, a little planning in advance will go a long
way. Bikes are not allowed on the buses back to the airstrip ,however, you will be able to take your gear bags (retrieve from Change Room Area) with
you on the bus. You can then go back to your car at the airstrip and drive back into Deerhurst via hidden Valley and follow the signage for bike pick up
(located just outside transition zone). There will be a temporary parking spot for a quick BIKE pick up only. This is why we advise you to already have
your bags before doing this step. Please do not stop and talk at this point as it will bottleneck the pick up process.
If you have family and friends with you they can meet you here and pick you up along with your bike and gear bags for a very quick turnover.
Bike pick up will be available immediately after the first athlete crosses the finish line. Approximately 3 p.m. When arriving to pick up your bike; enter
the resort area from Hidden Valley. Maps will be available on site for you to view.
• Left on Pen Lake Road and follow along backside of Deerhurst.
• Follow signs for Bike Check Out.
• The process works in a loop and will flow back out the way you came in through Hidden Valley.
Race Photography
FinisherPix will have several photographers working at the swim exit, on the bike course, on the run course, and of course, at the finish line!
How to order your pix:
- To be notified as soon as photos are online, register your email address at www.finisherpix.com
- Have your number visible on the FRONT of your bike helmet so you can be identified in your cycling photos.
- Keep your bib number visible on the FRONT of your body during the run and at the finish line so you can be easily identified.
- Smile and celebrate when you cross the finish line! Don’t worry about touching your watch, the timing company will ensure an accurate record of
your achievement.
- Visit www.finisherpix.com to view, order, and share your photos from the event.

SWIMSMART
Top 10 Checklist
An open-water swim in a triathlon is substantially different from swimming in a pool.
To alleviate stress, it’s important that you arrive on race day healthy, fit and prepared.
Here's a top-10 checklist to help get you ready.
1. Prepare for Race Conditions
•Race day should not be your first open water swim. Make sure
some of your training replicates real race conditions, including water
temperature, proximity to other swimmers and wearing a wetsuit if
needed.
2. Race in Shorter Events
• Being properly trained is the best way to reduce anxiety. If possible,
race in shorter events and clinics to prepare yourself for open water
conditions.
• For extra guidance, talk to a coach or your local triathlon club.
3. Learn About Course Details
• It’s important to prepare yourself mentally as well as physically prior
to race day. Thoroughly review the race website and pre-race communication to familiarize yourself with the course.
• Keep in mind, every body of water is different, so you’ll need to educate yourself on water current and surf conditions.
7. Warm Up on Race Day
• Arrive early enough on race day for a proper warm-up prior to the
start, preferably in the water.
• If you aren’t able to warm up in the water, spend between 5 and 10
minutes getting loose.
• Be sure to do some cardio activity, such as a light jog, to increase
circulation and prep your muscles.
8. Check Out the Course
• Get comfortable with the course by checking out water conditions,
the swim entry, exit layouts, along with turn buoy locations.
• Identify basic navigation points so that you know what you are swimming towards.
9. Start Easy – Relax and Breathe
• Don’t race at maximum effort from the start.
• Study the event timetable to plan for proper arrival and preparation.
• Relax and focus on proper breathing technique as you settle into a
sustainable pace.
4. Ensure Heart Health
10. Be Alert and Ask for Help
• As an athlete in training, you should take the proper steps to assess
your health with your physician.
• The American Heart Association suggests a 12-step screening process for competitive athletes. This includes a physical exam as well as
an assessment of your family history and personal heart health.
5. Pay Attention to Warning Signs
• If you experience chest pain or discomfort, shortness of breath, lightheadedness or blacking out while training, consult your doctor.
6. Don’t Use New Gear on Race Day
• In a race setting always stop at the first sign of a medical problem.
• If you or a fellow athlete needs help, just raise your hand to alert a
lifeguard or safety boat.
• Race rules allow for competitors to stop or rest at any time during the
swim.
• Feel free to hold on to a static object like a raft, buoy, or dock.
• You may also rest by holding on to a kayak, boat or even a paddleboard. As long as you don’t use it to move forward, you won’t face
disqualification.
• Focus on controlling as much as you can on race day.
• You should never race in equipment you haven’t trained in this is not
the time to test new gear.
• Make sure your wetsuit fits properly and that your goggles, swim cap
and other accessories work properly.
• Prepare for the unexpected with backups of all your gear.

Bike Course SUMMARY
BIKE 180 KM
The winding 180 kilometer bike course will challenge and inspire IRONMAN athletes. The clear water of Lake of Bays, a vast expanse of
hardwood trees, colourful outcroppings of granite are all sights athletes will see as they make their way through the bike course. In addition,
the course takes athletes through three small and charming Muskoka communities: Dwight, Dorset and Baysville. Here bikers will get the
opportunity to bottle exchange, and also listen to the encouraging cheers from the masses of spectators. It’s this that will inspire athletes to
complete the bike course and make their way to the next leg of their IRONMAN journey.

medical assistance, a SAG vehicle will pick you
up and take you to the medical tent, where
you shall receive treatment.
Alternatively, depending upon medical emergency, ambulances will take you to the nearest
hospital to receive treatment. If you have a
technical problem or have bonked, the SAG
vehicle will take you to the next aid station.
At every bike and run aid station, there will be
rest areas and medical personnel to assist in
any medical problem.
Additionally, there will be radios to contact
ambulances and medical assistance. If you
have a problem, please go to an aid station for
further assistance. Cyclists still on the course
after 5:30 p.m. will be disqualified and will not
be permitted to continue in the event.
Note: Bike aid stations are located approximately every 20 km. It is your responsibility to slow for safe nutrient pick-up.
Call out your requirements clearly and in advance. Crews are instructed not to step across
the white line for handoffs. It is imperative
that you don’t toss bike bottles, cups, or nutrient bags on the roadside along the course.
A 5 minute time penalty will be assessed for
discarding litter outside the designated drop
zone.
LOCAL TRAFFIC LAWS
Please remember that members of the local
community use the bike course roads.
Realize that you are an ambassador for the
sport and the event and the impact of your
actions is far reaching. When you’re out riding
the course, please adhere to local traffic laws
and go the extra mile to be courteous and
respectful to the residents of the local community.
Please think before you act. When training,
please follow these suggestions:
Please ride single file. This is not just for your
safety but also to ensure local drivers can
get where they need to go without delay and
frustration.
Please obey traffic laws (stop at stop signs,
signal when turning, etc.).
Please do not use private property as a toilet.
Please do not litter. Keep your energy bar and
gel wrappers with you until you find a trash
can.
Please ask your friends and family members
to refrain from painting the roads along the
course. This defaces public property and is a
punishable offense.
Please wear a helmet during all official
activities when you are riding your bike. This
includes, competition, course familiarization
and training sessions
Bike Course Rules
and Instructions
Please understand that
based on permits for the
roads on the course and
the safety of athletes
involved, cut-off times
must be respected for all
IRONMAN events.
Every time a cyclist has an altercation with
a driver, that driver sees every cyclist on the
road as the enemy.
Every time a cyclist is courteous to a driver,
that driver will give every cyclist on the road
that much more respect and courtesy in
return.

To avoid an unexpected flat tire, wait until race morning to inflate

recommend you bring your own. You must give your pump to a family member or friend before the race start, since pumps will not be

The 26.2 mile (42 kilometer) run is
just as beautiful and picturesque as
the first two legs of this IRONMAN
course. Athletes will depart from
Deerhurst Resort and follow along
the north shore of scenic Fairy Lake
towards the town of Huntsville. The
middle section of the course will take
athletes through welcoming residential areas then across Huntsville’s
famous swing bridge. Once athletes
have passed over the bridge, they will
make their way through the historic
downtown core of Huntsville. Once
here, athletes will get a feel for the
warmth and welcome that this community offers. Athletes then retrace
their steps back toward Deerhurst
Resort for the completion of their run
course and their IRONMAN journey.

reasons.
Running conduct and specifications are
consistent with Triathlon Ontario rand IRONMAN ules.

used during the swim.
Any change thereafter will be grounds for

medical policy
All medical expenses incurred are the sole responsibility of the
athlete and not IRONMAN. Triathlon Ontario provides secondary coverage in qualified circumstances. Failure to meet financial
responsibility to local medical facilities will result in suspension of
future participation at IRONMAN events until accounts are settled.
Particular dangers include dehydration, hyponatremia, sunburn,
exhaustion and injuries sustained from accidents. Please ask for
medical help if you have the slightest hint you may need it. You
will not be penalized for receiving a medical evaluation. You will be
withdrawn from the race only if you require transportation, IV fluids or if medical personnel feel your continued participation could
result in serious harm or death.
During events of extreme endurance, the body’s pain threshold
is raised, and you may be in more trouble than you realize. The
medical personnel will do all they can to keep you in the race and
assure a safe finish. Also, please be attentive when taking water
and sponges from volunteers when you’re on your bike to avoid the
possibility of accident or injury to yourself or another.
Please trim your fingernails and toenails prior to the start of the
race to avoid injury to other athletes. Be especially careful to rinse
your goggles of any excess defogger solutions to avoid eye irritation.
If you are taking any medications, or have any medical problem that
may influence your performance or your treatment in the event of an
injury, advise us of all necessary details well in advance of race day. At
athlete check-in, you are required to notify the medical team, in writing,
if there is any change in your medical status/condition after your application has been processed. Failure to do so will result in suspension
of participation in future IRONMAN events. You are solely responsible
for avoiding medications that appear on the list of banned substances
as determined from WEC Anti-Doping.
Feedback from previous IRONMAN contestants indicates we can never
over emphasize the importance of hydrating prior to and during the
event. Ironman’s Chief Physician recommends you begin hydrating
heavily several days before the race and drink enough water so your
urine is clear, colorless and copious by race day.
PLEASE NOTE: Full disclosure of medical condition(s), general health
and surgical procedures within the previous 12 months is required.
Medical consultation/clearance may be necessary from an attending
physician prior to participating in the event. In all cases, the final decision of medical consideration is at the discretion of the Ironman medical
director.
PLEASE NOTE: Report any important medical information on the back of
your race bib. Space is provided for you to do so.
If you spend three months prior to the event in a climate cooler
than Muskoka we suggest you consider an acclimation period before the race. The chance of dehydration and electrolyte imbalance
can be reducedsignificantly by a proper period of acclimation. Stay
with your familiar and proven routine regarding training, nutrition
and equipment, especially just prior to the race. This also applies
to pre-race dietary intake and medications. It is recommended
you avoid an extreme elimination diet. Adequate salt intake during
training and during the event is especially important.

MESSAGE from IRONMAN ALL WORLD ATHLETE
The IRONMAN All World Athlete program is our way of rewarding age-group athletes’ hard work, dedication, and performance across IRONMAN and
IRONMAN 70.3 racing.
The program uses the IRONMAN Age Group Ranking system to determine which athletes have finished within the top 10 percent or better in their age
group each calendar year. This system allows athletes to generate points based on their finish time behind the first official finisher in their age group.
Athletes accumulate points for each race they complete. On December 31st, only the top three performances will count toward an athletes’ All World
Athlete status. This makes it easy for athletes to improve their ranking by simply racing more with IRONMAN.
An athlete can achieve All World Athlete status in one or all of the following categories:
IRONMAN, IRONMAN 70.3 and OVERALL (IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 combined).
There are three levels associated with the All World Athlete program:
GOLD (top one percent)
SILVER (top five percent)
BRONZE (top ten percent)
For questions regarding the ALL World Athlete Program, please contact: [email protected]
Benefits for this race:
* Priority access to athlete registration
* All World Athlete logo on bibs

how it works
Clubs are divided into club divisions based on the size of the club. This makes it fun for TriClubs to compete against other TriClubs in their division.
For races in North America, clubs compete against each other at IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 events. Athletes who are registered with a club earn
points based on IRONMAN’s Age Group Ranking system. These points are added together and are used to determine the Division Champion at the
event.
For the Cross-Canada overall competition any clubs that meet the qualifying criteria will be automatically entered into the championship point
calculation. Any points earned at any races, including those earned outside of the Canadian series will count towards determining the top pointgetting clubs. Points will be frozen on December 31, 2015 and the winners of the competition will be announced in early January 2016.
Divisions
Division I - Clubs with greater than 300 active members and National Coaching programs
Division II - Clubs with 176-299 active members
Division III - Clubs with 76-175 active members
Division IV - Clubs with 26-75 active members
Division V - Clubs under 25 active members
