Kunst eröffnet
neue Perspektiven
Dialog, Verständigung, Kommunikation – diese
Begriffe sind in der internationalen Zusammenarbeit von zentraler Bedeutung. Das Wissen
über Werte und Normen der Partnerländer,
gegenseitiges Verständnis sowie Sensibilität für
die Kultur des anderen bestimmen nicht zuletzt
den Erfolg oder Misserfolg der Zusammenarbeit.
Kunst ist seit jeher ein wichtiges Medium für
interkulturellen Austausch. Der Dialog durch
Kunst und über Kunst lehrt viel über die
jeweilige Kultur und weckt Interesse füreinander.
Seit 1996 veranstaltet die Deutsche Gesellschaft
für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH
einmal im Jahr eine umfangreiche Kunstausstellung mit Werken – Gemälde, Zeichnungen,
Druckgrafik, Fotografien und Skulpturen –
aktueller Gegenwartskunst. Die Arbeiten
kommen ausschließlich von Künstlerinnen und
Künstlern aus den Ländern, in denen die GIZ
tätig ist. Die Ausstellungen bieten Einblicke
in fremde Kulturen, regen zur Diskussion an
und ermöglichen das Gespräch mit den
Künstlerinnen und Künstlern. Zudem sind sie
ein Forum für die Künstler, ihre Kunst einem
Publikum außerhalb ihres Heimatlandes vorzustellen.
Die Präsentation von Kunst in der GIZ bedeutet
auch eine Bereicherung der Unternehmenskultur, indem der Dialog zwischen den
Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern angeregt
wird. Denn: Kunst begeistert Menschen. Sie
öffnet den Blick für die vielfältigen Facetten
des Lebens und schafft neue Perspektiven.
Gleichzeitig baut die GIZ ihre Kunstsammlung
kontinuierlich aus, indem sie Kunstwerke aus
der jeweiligen Ausstellung ankauft. So umfasst
die Sammlung über 100 Bilder und Skulpturen
aus den Kontinenten Afrika, Asien, Lateinamerika und dem östlichen Europa. Diesen
kulturellen Schatz möchten wir mit Ihnen
teilen und freuen uns, Ihnen mit diesem
Katalog nun eine Auswahl an Werken aus
unserer vielfältigen Sammlung zu zeigen.

Art opens up
new perspectives
GIZ’s art exhibitions also enrich its organisational culture by stimulating dialogue among
the staff – because art generates enthusiasm.
It opens people’s eyes to the many different
facets of life and enables new perspectives to
unfold.
Dialogue, comprehension, communication –
these concepts are key to international cooperation. Mutual understanding, awareness of
partner countries’ values and norms and sensitivity to other cultures can determine the
success or failure of cooperative ventures. Art
has always been an important medium of
intercultural exchange. Dialogue through art
and about art teaches us a great deal about
different cultures and awakens interest in
other people and countries.
GIZ is continually adding to its art collection
by purchasing artworks from each year’s
exhibition. The collection contains over 100
pictures and sculptures from Africa, Asia,
Latin America and Eastern Europe. We should
like to share these cultural treasures with
you and in this catalogue we are pleased to
bring you a selection of works from our varied
collection.
Since 1996 the Deutsche Gesellschaft für
Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH
has organised a major annual exhibition of
contemporary art, including paintings, drawings, prints, photography and sculpture. All the
works on display are by artists living in countries where GIZ operates. The exhibitions provide a glimpse of other cultures, stimulate
discussion and foster communication with
artists. They also provide a forum for artists
to present their work to a public outside their
home countries.

Unter Tingatinga Malerei versteht man eine Maltradition,
die in Tansania entstand und
nach ihrem Begründer, Edward
Saidi Tingatinga (1932-1972),
benannt ist. Edward Tingatinga
begann in den 1960ger Jahren
Tiere, Pflanzenmotive und
Dorfszenen mit Fahrradlack auf
quadratische Pressplatten zu
malen. Nach dem Tod Edward
Tingatingas 1972 organisierte
sich die Gruppe der Maler zu
einer Genossenschaft, der
„Tingatinga Arts Cooperative
Society" (TACS). Die Tingatinga
Malerei entwickelte sich zu
einem Synonym für Malerei
aus Tansania. Motive wie
Alltagsszenen, ornamentale
Pflanzenmotive und Tierdarstellungen tauchen bis heute
immer wieder auf.
Sie verleihen der Tingatinga
Malerei eine unverkennbare
Bildsprache.
Seit 2006 ist Jorge Alfonso
Präsident des „Jardin del Arte“,
einer Vereinigung von etwa 800
bildenden Künstlern aus Mexiko.

In Dakar haben sie eine Galerie
mit einem großen Atelier eröffnet. Gemeinsames Arbeiten und
gleichzeitiges Ausstellen der
Werke wurde dadurch möglich.
Zachariah Mbutha
1948 geboren im Kiambu
District in Zentralkenia. Er
arbeitete zunächst als Lehrer.
1968 begann er zu malen und
nahm direkt an einem MalWettbewerb in Marokko teil.
1989 gab er seinen Lehrerberuf
auf und entschied sich für den
Weg eines freischaffenden
Künstlers.
Er lebt und arbeitet in Nairobi.
Tengis Mirsaschwili
1934 geboren in Mestia,
Georgien.
1952–1958 Studium der Malerei
an der Akademie der Künste in
Tiflis; Abschluss im Hauptfach
Bühnenbild.

Tingatinga is a painting tradition that originated in Tanzania;
it is named after its founder,
Edward Saidi Tingatinga (1932–
1972). In the 1960s, Edward
Tingatinga started to paint
animals, plant motifs and
village scenes on square pieces of hardboard using bicycle
paint. After his death in 1972,
his followers formed the
'Tingatinga Arts Cooperative
Society' (TACS).
Today, Tingatinga painting has
become synonymous with
Tanzanian painting. Typical subjects still include depictions of
daily life, ornamental plant
motifs and animal scenes. This
lends an unmistakeable visual
language to Tingatinga.
2006 to date: President of the
“Jardin del Arte”, an association of about 800 visual artists
from Mexico.

The Mafdak group of artists
consists of six members:

are between 25 and 40 years
old and have studied at
Dakar’s university of art. In
Dakar they opened a gallery
with a large studio, which
enables them to work together
and to exhibit their works at
