Innovative signal processing techniques, pushed by rapid computer developments, lead to new information systems and applications that require complete new generations of antennas. Especially, applications in the areas of wireless networks and mobile phones benefit from smart antenna solutions nowadays envisaged. Wireless networks based on WLAN, Bluetooth, or ISM, for example, are introduced in a rapid pace not only in the business sector but also in the private sector, and require flexible antenna solutions. Applications like keyless entry systems for cars or PCM/CIA cards for laptops put completely different constrains on the antenna performance. The trend in mobile phone antennas is smaller, cheaper and multi-band capability. Triple band antennas are no longer an exception. This in combination with stricter regulations for SAR norms does not simplify antenna design. For the first time in its history the ‘ITG-Fachtagung Antennen’ has been organised in an international form: International ITG Conference on Antennas. In a long tradition of national antenna conferences it continues to offer a platform for expert discussions on recent developments in antennas and related topics such like measurement technologies and beam forming. We would like to invite you to share your perspectives in our discussions of antenna applications for future telecommunication systems. This conference covers new aspects and results of a number of antenna developments like mobile communications, adaptive and phased array antennas, telemetry applications, traffic and security control, navigation and direction finding systems, TV-broadcast, wave propagation, antenna theory, simulation and measurements. The ambience of a major city like Berlin will surely add to the productivity of the discussions, and give the participants ample possibility to relax in the evening while having a look at this beautiful city. We are very pleased with the quantity and quality of the national and international contributions, which is a positive signal for the on-going antenna research all over the world. From a large number of submissions the program committee has selected 90 papers for oral presentation and 18 posters. The conference is organised in 19 sessions, one of them is the poster session where the authors explain their main results by means of poster. One invited speaker, Juan Mosig from EPFL Lausanne, will open the conference. The papers for both poster and oral presentations are published in this proceeding. This VDE/ITG conference is supported by the COST 284, the IEEE, the IEE and the TU Berlin. We are convinced that this conference will be beneficial in every way for the participants and result in new collaborations. On behalf of the organisers, I welcome you to Berlin and wish you a successful participation in the conference.
