This was expanded in 2000 to include 3ML1 pupils and is still current practice. A second exchange for Sixth Formers was started in 2001 and ran as a programme for two years. This was replaced in 2004 by a Berlin Study Trip as numbers were insufficient for the full exchange to run satisfactorily and ran again in October 2005 and 2006. Since 2007/8 an exchange has again proved possible. It is also recognised that Sixth Form pupils may prefer to make use of other opportunities for travel, capitalising either on their own personal existing contacts or on the AngloAustrian Exchange Scheme/Summer courses abroad. Courses run by the Goethe Institut are also offered through school. In December 2011 a day trip to the Aachen Christmas Market was on offer for the 14th year running to all learners of German throughout the School. CLUBS. The German Magazine Club is now in its 19th year. Its members meet once weekly on Thursday lunchtimes and produce an edition of the in-school magazine "TOLL" once a term. The magazine, which is distributed to teaching groups and published online, typically includes articles on German culture, interviews with members of staff, quizzes, puzzles and cartoons either in German or with a German theme. OTHER ACTIVITIES. Speakers from Southampton University are often invited to address the 4th Year during the Autumn or Spring Terms, giving up-to-date information on studying and using languages beyond school for careers and leisure. In 2010 and 2011 a visiting theatre company, Onatti Productions, performed a lively play in German to the 3rd Year and Core Language and all Upper School sets. In the Summer Term 2010 a speaker from Southampton University, Dr Andrea Reiter, spoke to the Sixth Form and staff on a literary topic, Bernhard Schlink’s Der Vorleser (The Reader) and associated themes. For examination pupils, extra sessions are arranged to cover grammar topics or to prepare further for particular examination modules. 4.
