Bad Salzhausen
Nidda‘s health resort
Explore · recover · experience · learn · preserve
… you will encounter these verbs in various ways in Bad Salzhausen: explore the
historic site with its impressive buildings,
recover while using our therapy and wellness offers, experience the original landscape of the volcanic Vogelsberg region
and its regional specialities, learn things
you didn’t know about arts and culture
and preserve your fitness!
A place with history
Since the early 19th century, guests have
been visiting Bad Salzhausen. It is the healing power of the brine that made the place
famous. Already in the 1920s, the chemist
Justus Liebig discovered the healing effect
of the mysterious salt-containing water that
runs deep beneath the surface. Bad Salzhausen
is one of Germany’s oldest saltwater spas.

Arriving
Welcome to Nidda / Bad Salzhausen
With tailor-made offers for either active
or calm recreation, the small health resort
awakens the spirit. Situated about 60
km from Frankfurt, Bad Salzhausen is an
exceptionally peaceful spot in the heart
of Germany. Quality instead of quantity –
that’s the motto for all those who rather
turn their back on impersonal holiday factories and prefer a welcoming atmosphere
and friendly service.
Health and wellness
The “way back to oneself” leads directly
to nature. And this way is not long. Actually, Bad Salzhausen is right in the middle
of it. The spa gardens that were created
approximately 185 years ago are amongst
the most beautiful and oldest park facilities of this kind in Germany. On an area
of 52 hectare, they provide botanical treasures from all over of the world. There
are no borders and no fences. Trespassing is explicitly permitted! The treasure of Bad Salzhausen, its brine, emerges
from the ground in six mineral springs
in the spa gardens. In the thermal bath
Justus-von-Liebig-Therme, you may experience the healing effect of the brine most
intensively. The sophisticated sauna world
refreshes body and soul. The new salt
grotto offers a completely new kind of
relaxation. Backlit salt brick walls, crystals
and minerals create a unique and comforting atmosphere. The best is just good
enough: You may enjoy various treatment
and wellness programmes combined with
Ayurvedic relaxation methods and alternative naturopathic treatments to find relaxation and recreation for body and soul.
Activity and fun
Put on your sports shoes – ready – set –
go! At Europe’s largest extinct volcano,
there are many things to discover. Dense
forests and beautiful valleys, bizarre basalt
formations and clear lakes are the perfect
surroundings for discovering something
new. Between Vogelsberg and Wetterau,
hikers, walkers and cyclists find the perfect
scenery for their activities. Whether the

I want to go
That’s where
formance levels find the right challenge.
Why don’t you try it the Vogelsberg way?
Whether aqua cycling, aqua aerobic or
aqua stretching – taking exercises in the
water is a particularly gentle method to
stimulate the cardiovascular system. Even
if you have not yet had the chance to learn
how to swim, you get a new chance to do
so in Bad Salzhausen.
Arts and culture
When the body recovers, also the mind
requires new inspiration. The association
Kunst:Projekt regularly organises a sculptors’ symposium with open workshops and
exhibitions from which a park of sculptures of continuously increasing value
derives. Great art on a small stage – this
is the motto of the new literature series
“Nidda erlesen”, which takes place in
Nidda or Bad Salzhausen and features the
reading and acting of prominent personalities. The jazz series “Swingin’ Parc” has
become renowned far beyond the region’s
borders. Regular concerts held in the spa
gardens, cabaret, theatre and the main
annual event, Bad Salzhausen’s Parkfest, provide diversion and entertainment.
Those who wish to put their creativity into
practice themselves find inspiration in the
painting school of Dieter Schiele. Whether
you prefer watercolour, oil or acrylic paint:
With fun and imagination, the grand
nephew of the world-famous expressionist Egon Schiele leads both beginners and
advanced painters to success.
We hope you enjoy reading through
this brochure!

Nidda − “flowing waters”
A fountain oasis in the Wetterau region
Nidda - a name with a meaning: The river
that runs through a beautiful landscape.
A landscape with small side valleys, rolling hills, forests and meadows. And the
town with its lively charm, the pretty halftimbered houses, its wide marketplace and
its people, who still care for maintaining
their traditions. Here, traditional crafts and
modern life and services exist side by side.
Nidda is a friendly town of friendly people.
If you have a particular eye for detail, the
town of Nidda will be the right place for you
to go. With its half-timbered houses, a little
piece of homeliness has been preserved in its
most beautiful form. The houses are of individual character. You won’t find two that
look the same. When taking a stroll through
the pedestrian area, even uneasy minds will
calm down. Various stores that offer fashion,
cosmetics, gifts or technical equipment
invite you to do some shopping in the town
centre and the adjacent streets. Cosy pubs
and a traditional guesthouse brewery serve
the best of the upper Hessian cuisine.

According to the legend, Nidda owes its founding to the stubbornness of a donkey that
accompanied robber baron Count Berthold
and his wife who were fleeing from Emperor Barbarossa. Count Berthold said he was to
build his castle wherever the donkey stopped.
Whether the donkey’s decision really was in
his master’s interest can no longer be found
out. The Countess, however, is said to have
shouted “Nit da, nit da!” (“Not there, not
there!”) in her despair, and according to the
legend that is how the castle of “Nitda” got
its name.
As a matter of fact, “Nithahari marcu in
Wettereiba”, which means “settlement at
the flowing waters in the Wetterau”, was
already mentioned at the beginning of the
9th century. It was in the year of 1234 when
Nidda was first mentioned as a town.
You may as well act like the donkey and rest
a while in Nidda to take a journey through
the town‘s history. During the Renaissance
period, a lot of construction work was being
done in Nidda, which is still evidenced today
by numerous idyllic alleys with affectionately restored half-timbered houses. The centre
of life is the marketplace with its historic
well from which you may start your stroll
through town. The Johanniterturm, a venerable tower built in late 15th century, is visible from far. The Protestant parish church
“Zum Heiligen Geist” (“To the Holy Ghost”)
is one of the oldest Hessian hall churches.
The castle of Nidda used to be a water castle
during 12th century and was rebuilt in the
Renaissance period.

dyer, as well as exhibitions relating to the
town’s, church’s and region’s history.
Embedded in the volcanic landscape with
its numerous streams, most of the eighteen
boroughs that form part of Nidda town are
of rural character. Cultural treasures, such
as the church of Geiß-Nidda (dating back to
around 1200) that may even have served as
pilgrimage church can be found everywhere.
In Ulfa, the oldest church bells of Hessen are
still chiming today (“Dreiergeläut” - the chiming of three bells - around 1334).
Legendary is the Kindstein in Unter-Widdersheim, a phonolite of 2.3 metres height
dating back to the megalithic culture (13th
century before Christ). As can be read on the
information panel, it is presumed that this
cultural testimony of an ancient ritual place
had been brought here from quite some
distance.
Main attractions:
1)Historic centre of Nidda: marketplace, market
well, Protestant church
2) Bad Salzhausen: historic buildings from late
Baroque to Classicism
3)Spa gardens of Bad Salzhausen: mineral springs,
water wheel, graduation house and botanical garden
4)Protestant church of Geiß-Nidda
…for more places of interest, see page 8
In Wallernhausen, nature meets culture.
Biological farms, an apple wine pressing plant, holiday farms, a tavern with a
puppet theatre, a cultural stage and the
forest swimming pool are all united in the
picturesque environment of the village,
which is characterised by its half-timbered
construction style. And time and again,
you may even catch a beautiful view over
the wide Wetterau area up to Taunus and
Vogelsberg.

Nidda − Getting out to enjoy nature
Hiking, cycling, having fun
Put on your sports shoes – ready – set – go!
At Europe’s largest extinct volcano, there
are many things to discover. Dense forests
and beautiful valleys, bizarre basalt formations and clear lakes are the perfect surroundings for both active and calm recreation. Between Vogelsberg and Wetterau,
hikers and walkers find the perfect scenery
for their activities.
Time off: enjoy the silence
There are many ways to spend your free
time in a relaxing way in and around
Nidda. You may enjoy various outdoor activities and events that are directly associated with the rough charm of the wonderful
landscape, which is mainly characterised by
its volcanic origin.
INDIVIDUAL OFFERS
Are you interested in a special group rate, are you
planning a day’s programme for a bus travelling group or do you need any information on
special subjects, such as hiking or cycling trail
recommendations?
Contact us and we will be happy to prepare an
offer geared to your personal needs and wishes
or send you the respective information material!
Natural monuments: geological structures
History feels really close when looking at the
volcanic quarries. The individual rock formations may be read just as an electrocardiogram displaying the heartbeat of the Vogelsberg. Even the hearts of grown geologists
skip a beat at the sight of it. Another natural
phenomenon of volcanism are the salt meadows on which particular salt plants such as
sea rush, strawberry clover, sea milkwort and
arrow-grass flourish and provide precious
habitat for small animals and insects.
Hiking: discovering nature
For people who like to take long walks
through fields, woods and meadows, an
extensive network of hiking trails exists in
and around Nidda. As one of seven circular hiking trails certified with the German
hiking path seal (Deutsches Wandersiegel)
of Vogelsberger ExtraTouren, the NaturTour
Nidda of 14 km length guarantees highest
hiking quality, just as the 123 km circular
hiking trail Vulkanring Vogelsberg, which
will lead you along the most beautiful
spots that surround the nature reserve.
Take a look through a window to the
past while walking on the Apple Trail,
Landgrave’s Trail or Five River Trail. Here,
where the nature reserve of Hoher Vogelsberg and the archaeological landscape
of the Wetterau meet, many legends and
myths have their origin. The archaeological park of Glauberg is also close by. Signposted trails and guided tours invite you to
wander on ancient traces.
The spa gardens of Bad Salzhausen and its
six mineral springs represent the force of
nature as they comprise everything that
originates in the volcano Vogelsberg: the
healing water, an extraordinary botanical
diversity and a scenic landscape. And all
this is surrounded by buildings dating back
to periods from Baroque to Classicism.

Nordic sports and exercise
The fact that Nordic walking is an integral
part of many treatment concepts in Bad
Salzhausen once again shows that specific
outdoor exercise makes a material contribution to your health.
The Tourist Information offers various Nordic walking tours on three routes of varying
length. You may also book guided tours led
by trained instructors.
Cycling: exploring new paths
In Nidda, cyclists of all levels find exactly
the right challenge. Three major cycle routes
are close by: the local Nidda cycle route
of 120 km length, which stretches from
the spring of the river Nidda on the Hoherodskopf, in the heart of the nature reserve
Hoher Vogelsberg, to where the Nidda flows
into the Main in the metropolis of Frankfurt. The around 249 km long regional Apple
Wine and Orchard Route leads you through
fields and plenty of orchard meadows, which
are typical for the Wetterau.
Geocaching: a contemporary treasure hunt
Our geocaching offer addresses, in particular, children, teenagers and families. In
small groups, you can go treasure hunting
in Bad Salzhausen’s park landscape. Using
a GPS device, you have to find different
spots to answer some questions. Instructions
and devices are available at the brine bath
Justus-von-Liebig-Therme.
Treatment and wellness: naturally healthy
The element water is omnipresent. Coming
from the depth of the volcanic rocks of
the Vogelsberg, enriched by micronutrients, minerals and beneficial compounds, it
emerges at the surface again in Bad Salzhausen. In our special saltwater swimming
pool, the Solebewegungsbad or brine bath
with its sauna world, and at the Trinkkuranlage where people go to “drink the waters”,
this water is directly used for salutary purposes. Analyses of fitness and body composition, physiotherapy, aqua fitness, Tuina
treatments, terrain cure paths and a wide
range of different wellness offers complete your treatment and wellness stay in Bad
Salzhausen.
World of the Celts: experience history
Only a few kilometres from Nidda, you may
take a journey to the past: A long ridge visible from far - the last basalt promontory of
the Vogelsberg - that is the Glauberg at the
eastern rim of the Wetterau in Hesse. Since
May 2011, you can explore the world of
the Celts in the new museum “Keltenwelt”.

Activities for kids
Also for children and teenagers, Bad Salzhausen
and its surrounding areas have plenty to offer.
How about a game of minigolf? During the summer months you may visit Nidda’s outdoor swimming pool for some refreshment. Or you could
rent out GPS devices and solve the riddles on the
predefined routes through the spa gardens. At
the playground, close to Nidda’s town hall, smaller children can play while their parents take a
rest. When going on a scouting expedition along
the nature trail of Rabenstein, young and old
can learn a lot about flora and fauna. You can
also take your inline skates to skate around the
artificial lake of Schotten; here you may also
refresh yourself by jumping into the cool water
afterwards or rent out a pedal boat - the choice
is yours! With the birds’ park, high ropes course
and summer bob, Schotten and the Hoherodskopf are well worth a visit. And you surely don’t
want to miss a visit to the “Green Sea” (Grünes
Meer) close to Laubach either!

Nidda − experience with all your senses
Culinary delights, events and culture
In Nidda, people are used to enjoying life.
This is also evidenced by history: Within the
region, people from Nidda are also referred
to as “Froistecker”, which, when translated
from dialect into standard language, means
as much as ”people having breakfast”. Especially the gastronomy that offers local and
regional as well as international specialities
is worth mentioning. In the guesthouse “Zur
Traube”, you may try beer specialities from
the guesthouse’s own brewery and enjoy delicious meals in the adjacent restaurant. You
may try “Beulches” (a regional speciality made
of potatoes and meat cooked in small cotton
bags), traditionally prepared potatoes, original
pastries, salads and soups, refined with herbs
from cottage gardens, or enjoy a regional dish
of game, fish or poultry. Whether you would
like to have a beer at the bar, meet up with
some friends in the guesthouse that comprises two floors and the “Bierschwemme” in
the basement or enjoy some of the culinary
delights outside in the beer garden on warm
summer days - the “Traube”, as a social and
culinary meeting point, is the centre of Nidda.
At the “Kurhaushotel”, which is located at the
edge of Bad Salzhausen’s spa gardens and
surrounded by ancient trees, you may not only
enjoy freshly prepared culinary pleasures but
also the peace and tranquillity of the idyll in
which it is embedded.
The new series of cultural events “NIDDA
ERLESEN - literature, arts, illustrious”, guarantees first-class evening entertainment with
well-known authors, politicians and artists.
The Arts Project Association Kunst:Projekt
organises a ten-day sculptors’ symposium, during which sculptors as well as LandArt and performance artists transform Bad
Salzhausen’s spa gardens into an open-air
artists’ studio. Walk around, have a look and
be astonished - that’s the motto of the unusual arts project which fascinates its visitors
and results in a fantastic sculpture park.
Those who wish to be creative themselves
find inspiration in the painting school of Dieter Schiele. Whether you prefer watercolour,
oil or acrylic paint: with fun and imagination, the grand nephew of the world-famous
expressionist Egon Schiele leads both beginners and advanced painters to success.
An acoustic experience are the music events,
such as “Nidda in concert”, the experimental jazz series “Swingin’ Parc”, classical concerts, a forum for young musicians as well
as regular concerts held throughout the year
(e.g. concerts of the ensemble Duo Bravo
or the large-scale summer concerts in Bad

NIDDA | BAD SALZHAUSEN
Bad Salzhausen − fountain of life
Island of peace for the stressed
The soft rustle of leaves instead of traffic
noise. Enjoying an ice cream while walking
through the park instead of a drink of prosecco in some trendy bistro. Idyllic spa gardens
instead of bustling pedestrian streets: Nidda/
Bad Salzhausen is the “home of tranquillity”.
Here, traditional values are still appreciated
and the hectic pace of today’s life is intentionally slowed down. In times of sensory
overload and common everyday fears, the
former state spa resort is a protected area for
all those who yearn for a safe haven. Individualists who visit the 500-souls-community
won’t be disappointed. Whether family, couple or single, anyone who visits the health
resort, just as well as the excursionists,
sportsmen and relaxation seekers who find
their way to Bad Salzhausen, will surely feel
genuine holiday pleasure.
Bad Salzhausen is special, a holiday
destination that can hardly be compared
to other locations. The place has its unique
charm. This is not only due to the pretty Wilhelmian style buildings, the venerable Baroque ensemble dating back to the time of salt
production or the beautiful avenues. There is
no hectic traffic or noisy industry, no irritation caused by vast con-struction sites. Instead
you find real peace and tranquillity. If you
come to Bad Salzhausen, you can breathe
in deeply and leave the everyday hassle far
behind with every step you take on your walk
through the ample spa gardens.
As of the early 19th century, guests have been
visiting Bad Salzhausen. It is the healing power
of the brine that made the place famous.
Already in the 1920s, the chemist Justus Liebig
discovered the healing effect of the wondrous
salt-containing water that runs deep beneath
the surface. In a letter to a friend, he wrote
that Bad Salzhausen was one of the oldest
brine baths of Germany. “Not to entertain
doubts about the curious effects of this brine,
I have convinced myself by visual inspection
that people were absolutely reconstituted after
20 to 30 baths in Bad Salzhausen after they
afore had taken baths unsuccessfully.”
Spa gardens of Bad Salzhausen:
The “way back to oneself” leads directly to
nature. And this way is not long. Actually,
Bad Salzhausen is right in the middle of it.
The spa gardens that were created approximately 185 years ago are amongst the most
beautiful and oldest park facilities of this
kind in Germany. On an area of 52 hectare,
they provide botanical treasures from all
over of the world. There are no borders and
no fences. Trespassing is explicitly permitted!
The idyllic herb garden besides the Trinkkurhalle (where people go to “take the waters”)
also shows the diversity of the plants that
may be used for both culinary and medical
purposes. It provides a remedy for everything.
When daydreaming under the roof of giant
ancient trees, you will surely find the way
back to your real self. Just let go. Here, wellness simply means feeling comfortable.

insufficient mineralization of the organism, metabolic disorders, to increase appetite, in case of functional disorders of the stomach and small intestine,
in particular, in connection with food-intake
Recommended dosage: two glasses per day
In the lower spa garden, it only takes a few
steps to arrive at a perfect idyll. This part of
the park, which was created in the 1950s,
spreads the charm of an old English garden.
Colourful flowerbeds lead you to the springs
and graduation house. The last of formerly six graduation houses brings a breath of
fresh air into tired airways. After a long walk,
you will quickly recover your breath here.
Breathing in the fine salt mist clears the
respiratory tract and loosens tough secretion.
The salt also contributes to the preservation
of a rare exotic habitat. Sea rush, strawberry
clover, sea milkwort and arrow-grass, whose
actual origin is the coastal area of North Sea
and Baltic Sea, also grow here on the salt
meadows. To learn more about these exotic
plants and the beauty of the spa gardens
you may participate in a guided tour led by
gardener Martin Nagorr.
A wide variety of tours is available. Whether
you are interested in flora and fauna or in
history – there is something for every taste.
Herb tours, field trips led by forest wardens
or conducted tours to learn more about salt
and salt evaporation, just as historical and
botanical tours, are all part of our offer.
Special rates for groups are also available!
The elemental force of nature is the key to
success. The healthy salt-containing water
emerges from the ground in six mineral
springs in the spa gardens. Three salt springs
and one lithium spring, a sulphur spring and
a chalybeate spring can be found only a few
feet apart from each other. Drinking their
water on a regular basis helps to supply
your body with minerals. Gargling with the
water that emerges from the sulphur spring
– if you can bring yourself to do it - provides
relief in case of persistent sore throats and
respiratory problems.
The place was first mentioned in 1187 and
referred to as “Salzhusen”, which means
“houses at the salt springs”. The first graduation
house was built around 1600. Compared to the
earlier boiling in pans, this meant an enormous
improvement. During the 18th century, salt
production flourished and production increased
to up to 4600 centners of salt per year.
In between peace and relaxation, you can
take an excursion by foot to the lively town
of Nidda. When following the enchanted
“Schlangenweg” (snakes’ path) that winds
through meadows and fields for about 3
km, you reach the heart of the municipality.
After your arrival, you surely deserve some
refreshment, which you may either take at
one of the ice-cream parlours or at a cosy
café or traditional tavern - there are many
places for you to stop by. Alternatively, it
will only take you a few minutes to get to
Nidda comfortably by bus, train or taxi.

functional disorders of the stomach and small intestine, in particular, in connection with food-intake
Recommended dosage: two glasses per day

Bad Salzhausen - treatment & wellness
…use salt to gain health and well-being
Care for your body, mind and soul in Bad
Salzhausen. Regain your strength while taking
a few days off to recharge your batteries.
In Bad Salzhausen you can choose between
both, classic therapeutic offers such as massage or physiotherapy, on the one hand, and
an alternative naturopathic approach that
supplements scientific medicine and opens up
new paths to a healthy life, on the other hand.
Enjoy the beneficial effect of natural fango
treatments or relax during a massage. Especially against stress and muscular tension,
the Tuina massage has proven particularly
effective. In contrast to a classic massage
treatment, which mainly influences disturbances of the muscular system, the Tuina
massage is used to treat disorders of the
entire organism. By working with his fingertips, heels of the hands, palms and elbows,
the therapist tries to influence certain points
along the body’s meridians. Experience the
beneficial effect of a foot reflexology massage or relax during an Ayurveda treatment.
Conventional scientific medicine, homeopathy or traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) the choice is yours!
Therapy and prevention:
Choose from the wide range of offers in Bad
Salzhausen to actively do something beneficial to your health. Nordic walking, running,
special water gymnastics, aqua fitness, aqua
cycling, back or spinal exercise programmes
or health-oriented gym training - amongst
the various courses, there is the right training for everybody. Many courses qualify
as primary preventive measures pursuant to
Section 20 Volume V of the German Social
Security Code and, as such, are subsidised
by German health insurance plans. Please
enquire with your health insurance provider.
Current prevention offer:
Nordic walking/walking, spinal exercises
in the water, back exercises, aqua fitness,
special water gymnastics for upper/lower
extremities, aqua cycling.
Justus-von-Liebig-Therme:
Dive into the salt-containing water in the
brine bath from the mineral springs. A temperature of 32°C in the indoor pool, 28°C in
the outdoor pool and 33°C in the therapy
pool ensure your well-being and positively
affect your health.
Aqua therapy for the cardiovascular and
respiratory system:
In the salty water you may not only relax,
but also actively do something for your
health. Strengthen your cardiovascular
system by aqua therapy. Aqua fitness is easy
on the joints, enhances your stamina and
trains your muscles in a very convenient
way. You will be surprised of how quickly
fat pads melt away and your personal wellbeing is increased. Cycling under water? The
trend sport that improves your stamina and
supports muscle building while being particularly gentle on the joints is called aqua
cycling. Why don’t you try it yourself?
Water gymnastics for everybody:
For guests of the brine bath, a free 20 minute aqua fitness/water gymnastics class is
held by a therapist from Monday to Friday
several times each day in the large pool.
Outside these classes, appointments may be
made for individual water gymnastics according to medical prescription.
Feeling comfortable in the sauna world:
The sauna world offers pure relaxation.
Besides the various types of saunas, such as
the traditional Finnish sauna, the bio-sauna
(sanarium), steam bath and inhalation room,
the visitor finds everything he needs for a
relaxing sauna session. Various forms of
NIDDA | BAD SALZHAUSEN
showers – from an adventure (tropical rain/
fresh sea breeze) shower via a waterfall shower to Kneipp treatments – are also available. The offer is rounded-off by a heat bench
with foot basin, a large relaxation room in
the indoor area and a massage studio and
moreover complemented by our newly created sauna garden with outdoor sauna for
steam infusions, plunge pool, second relaxation room and sunbathing lawn.
The two traditional Finish saunas provide
temperatures of 80°C and 90°C, respectively,
at a humidity of 10-25%. Special highlights
are our adventure infusions in the new outdoor sauna at a temperature of 90°C.
For beginners, we recommend the sanarium
with an agreeable temperature of 60°C at a
relative humidity of 40-45%. In the centre of
the sauna world, you find the aroma steam
bath. The hot vapour enriched with different
essential oils provides alleviation in case of
rheumatic problems and respiratory diseases.
In the brine inhalation room, the brine of
Bad Salzhausen - just as in the larger version, the graduation house - trickles through
blackthorn brushwood and evaporates. Due
to the warm temperatures, this process is
even intensified. The brine has a soothing
and beneficial effect on the respiratory
organs and cardiovascular system.
Another highlight is the newly constructed
salt grotto. Here, the visitor can enjoy a
controlled maritime climate in sophisticated surroundings composed of minerals and
natural stone. For this setting, ten tons of
salt have been used, and visitors may experience the special effects of both, the healing stones and the salt. By ultrasonic evaporation of brine, a unique, dry and microfine salt climate is created, which has many
positive effects. Regular visits clear the
respiratory tracks and have a disinfecting
and anti-inflammatory impact, in particular, in case of allergies, bronchitis or asthma.
They strengthen the immune system, increase the physical capacity and provide alleviation in cases of skin diseases, stress, fatigue
or psychosomatic problems.
Also children benefit from the positive
effects on health that the warmth of the
sauna provides (courses by specially trained
staff available).

The “spa tax” – a benefit for visitors
Is the spa tax (in German: Kurtaxe) really
necessary? Why is it imposed? And for what
is it actually used? These questions regarding
the meaning and purpose of the spa tax are
raised by many visitors who are not particularly delighted about having to pay it. Often,
however, it is merely lack of information that
causes visitors to question the necessity of
the spa tax. We would therefore like to provide to you information about the meaning of
the spa tax and the reasons for its imposition. First of all, it is important to know that the
spa tax is in no way anything like a “residence
tax”, as is often claimed. It is rather charged
to directly finance the numerous facilities and
services which are offered to visitors of our
health resort and which, in general, are very
much appreciated by them. Of course, we
strive for making your stay with us as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The spa tax
you pay is one of the things that help us to do
so. Thus, we are able to offer many possibilities for you to pass your time in Bad Salzhausen according to your personal preferences.

Cultural offers
Choose yourself whether you prefer to spend
your time reading quietly or in company of
other visitors. In our comfortable reading
rooms, you find a vast selection of books,
newspapers and magazines. There are special writing desks and at some places also a
pump room, which is well-tempered, both,
in summer and winter, where you may enjoy
the curative waters in pleasant company.
Apart from that, varying sophisticated cultural programmes as well as lectures and presentations on health education topics are
offered to provide information and knowledge important for leading a health-conscious life after your stay in Bad Salzhausen.
Concerts
Do you like music? Then, visit the musical events offered in Bad Salzhausen! Thanks to the spa tax, concerts,
with few exceptions, can be provided for
free − you are welcome to take a musical journey with us for no extra charge!
Spa gardens
As a matter of course, you are also free to
enjoy a walk through our spa gardens at any
time. In this respect, the spa tax helps us to
maintain our beautiful gardens and also to
provide park benches in sufficient number.
For people who enjoy hiking, there are signposted paths most of which have been carefully selected by spa doctors and the Health
Resort Administration. Sport and leisure
facilities offer numerous possibilities to take
physical exercise. It is, however, costly to
maintain these facilities. The proceeds from
the spa tax are also used for these purposes.
All this is made possible by the spa tax!
It has become obvious: It’s the visitors who
fully and directly benefit from the spa tax.
The spa tax is necessary for us to be able to
offer all these amenities to you. Otherwise,
we would have to charge separately for every
single service or facility you use. All alternatives that have been considered in the past,
such as the idea to use subsidies from tax
payments, would result in financial injustice, as they would be unfair on the general
public − i.e., all taxpayers, whether they visit
our health resort or not. You see: This is what
the spa tax is all about. We hope that, by providing this information, we helped you understand the meaning and purpose of the spa tax.

Health, fun and wellness - three good
reasons for Nidda-Bad Salzhausen
At the saltwater swimming pool or “Solebewegungsbad” Justus-von-Liebig-Therme
with its sauna world, you may spend a couple of relaxing hours on an island of peace
and tranquillity.

grotto or enjoy a healthy snack and drink in
the bistro Salzbar.
Our therapy department offers Nordic walking, fitness and wellness as well as prevention programmes.
Breath in deeply in the graduation works,
take a bath in the saltwater pool and benefit
from the brine in form of a drinking cure these are only some of the possibilities we
offer for your health and well-being.

Small-town idyll with a heart
Nidda and Bad Salzhausen
Situated directly besides the Nidda cycle trail,
along the Apple Wine and Orchard Routes
and the Vogelsberger ExtraTour NaturTour –
where you can truly enjoy nature!
The lively old part of Nidda town will extend
a warm welcome to you in the typical style of
the upper Hessian region: The flair of the halftimbered houses creates a charming atmosphere for your visit to one of the cosy cafés
or homely restaurants around the marketplace.
Enjoy the relaxing tranquillity of Nidda’s health
resort Bad Salzhausen, for example, when
taking a walk through its historical spa gardens with their fascinating botanical variety
and ancient trees. On an area of more than
54 hectare, six mineral springs have been
built, and their healthy water is the most
valuable treasure of Bad Salzhausen.
