Die Alster: Hamburgs Schatz - The Alster: Hamburg's treasure
Hamburg ist eine der schönsten Städte der Welt. Der größte Beweis hierfür ist die Alster und ihr Umfeld. Die Alster ist ein Fluss, der seinen
beliebtesten Teil im Zentrum von Hamburg hat, wo er sich in Innenalster und Außenalster teilt.
Hamburg is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The major proof for this fact is the Alster and its surroundings. The Alster is a river which
has its most famous part in the centre of Hamburg, where it is divided in inner Alster and outer Alster.
Die Binnenalster - The inner Alster
Nehmen wir an Du hast eine größere Pause zwischen den Vorlesungen. Zwei Stunden sind ausreichend um zum Jungfernstieg zu gelangen und
dieses wundervolle Viertel zu entdecken. Von unserer Universität zum Jungfernstieg kannst du die U1 (Lohmühlenstraße) oder die U2 (Berliner
Tor) nehmen. So oder so, ist der Jungfernstieg mit vielen verschiedenen öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln zu erreichen.
Let's say you have a longer break between your courses. Two hours are enough time to get to the Jungfernstieg and discover this wonderful
quarter. From our university to the Jungfernstieg you can use the metro lines U1 (Lohmühlenstraße), but also the U2 (Berliner Tor). Either way, the
Jungfernstieg is accessible with many means of transportation.
Um die Binnenalster herum findest Du alle Arten von Geschäften und
Restaurants. Das Alex Restaurant, welches direkt am Wasser gelegen ist, bietet
Eis, Kaffee und mehr zu günstigen Preisen. Besonders das Frühstücksbuffet mit
viel Auswahl ist zu empfehlen. Im Sommer kannst Du Dein Eis draußen direkt
neben dem Alex in der kleinen Bude kaufen. Hier kannst Du zwischen vielen
Eisspezialitäten auswählen und es Dir dann auf beweglichen Bänken oder sogar
auf dem Bootssteg gemütlich machen, welches der perfekte Platz für
romantische Sommerabende ist.

Around the inner Alster you can find all kinds of shops and restaurants. The "Alex" restaurant, which is located on the waterfront, provides ice
cream, coffee and more for favourable prices. Especially the breakfast buffet with a lot of variety is recommendable. In summer, you can get your
ice cream outside, directly besides the "Alex" in the little barrack "Eis Warneke". Here you can select between various ice cream specialities and
then take a seat at one of the movable settees or even the landing stage, which is a perfect place for romantic summer evenings.
Eine andere Alternative für Eis ist die Europa Passage. Das Eis ist sehr beliebt für seinen besonderen Geschmack. Aber die Europa Passage bietet
mehr. Es gibt viele Geschäfte, in denen Du Klamotten, Accessoires, Drogerien und sogar einen Supermarkt findest. Aus Erfahrung wissen wir, dass
Ausflüge in größeren Gruppen zu Streitigkeiten führen können. Zum Glück hat die Europa Passage zumindest die Lösung in Bezug auf Essen. Im
Untergeschoss gibt es viele Restaurants mit Spezialitäten aus aller Welt, z.B. deutsche, asiatische, mexikanische, türkische, indische und
italienische Gerichte. Hier kann sich jeder zu Essen holen, was er möchte und im Anschluss könnt Ihr Euch dann bei den Bänken zusammenfinden
und euer Essen genießen.
Another alternative for ice cream is the Europa Passage. The ice cream here is known for its special tastiness. But the Passage offers more. There
are many shops where you can find clothes, accessories, drugstores and even a supermarket. From experience, we know that trips in larger groups
can cause discrepancies regarding many topics. Fortunately, the Europa Passage has at least the solution in case of eating. At the basement there
are many restaurants with specialities from all over the world, for instance German, Asian, Mexican, Turkish, Hindu and Italian food.
In this way everybody can take the food he prefers the mist and afterwards you can use the settees to meet again.
Ihr könnt Euer Essen aber auch mitnehmen und Euch auf der anderen Seite der
Binnenalster hinsetzen. Dort gibt es viele Sitzmöglichkeiten zum Ausruhen.
Besonders die Wiese ist für Hamburgs Jugend eine oft genutzter Platz in der
Sonne. Nach einem anstrengenden Bummel durch die Stadt solltet Ihr diese
Möglichkeit nutzen und einfach entspannen!

You could also take your food and eat together at the other side of the inner Alster. There you have many possibilities to have a rest. Especially the
lawn there is often used as a place in the sun by Hamburg's youth. After a tiring tour through the city, take this opportunity and just relax!
Die Außenalster - The outer Alster
Falls Du einmal mehr Freizeit haben solltest, solltest Du unbedingt eine Tour um die Außenalster planen. Diese Route wird oft für Spaziergänge
oder Sport genutzt. Viele bevorzugen das Fahrrad für diese Tour. An vielen Plätzen um die Außenalster herum kannst Du Fahrradverleihe aber
auch Bootsverleihe finden, die Tretboote, Segelboote und andere Arten von Booten verleihen. Der Preis für eine Tretbootfahrt liegt zwischen 10
und 20 Euro. Bei vier Personen wären das rund 5 Euro, welche sich wirklich lohnen würden.
If you have longer free time you should definitely make a trip around the outer Alster. This route is mostly used for walks but also for doing sports.
Many people prefer the bike for a tour. At many places around the outer Alster you can find bike or even boat rentals that offer pedal boats,
rowboats and other kinds of boats. The prices for a pedal boat for one hour are between 10 and 20 Euros. For four persons, this would mean 5
Euros, which would definitely be worth it.
Auf dieser Tour wirst Du bemerken, dass es am Wasser viele bemerkenswerte Gebäude und
Villen gibt. Ein Gebäude, das besonders ins Auge sticht, ist die Islamische Zentrum Moschee mit
ihrer besonderen Architektur und Farben. Der Vorgarten ist ein schöner Platz, um Fotos zu
machen oder eine kleine Pause einzulegen.
At this tour you will notice that there are many impressive buildings and villa at the waterside.
One building that sticks out is the Islamic Centre Mosque, with its special architecture and
colours. The front garden with its spring is a nice place for making photos or just having a break.

Gegenüber der Moschee findest Du den Alsterpark, der super zum Picknicken ist. Von hier aus hast du einen tollen Ausblick auf das Wasser und
die ganze Schönheit der Alster und Hamburg.
Across from the mosque you will find the Alsterpark which is the perfect place to have a picnic. From here you have a great view over the water
and the whole beauty of the Alster and Hamburg.
Tipp: Im Winter, wenn es geschneit hat, ist die Alster die perfekte Kulisse für Fotos
mit Postkarten-Qualität. Wenn Du Glück hast und die Alster sehr tief gefroren ist,
wird es erlaubt auf ihr zu laufen.
Hint: In winter, when it has snowed, the Alster is a perfect setting for postcard like
photos. When you are lucky, the Alster freezes so deep and strong that it gets
allowed to walk on it.
