1. Power and Performance
32-Bit and 64-bit Architecture
CMS IntelliCAD 8.1 is available in 64-bit (x64) in addition to 32-bit.Generally
x64 is about 30% faster than 32-bit. The 64-bit version of IntelliCAD runs
slightly faster, but can use all available system memory to handle large
drawing files. IntelliCAD 32-bit can access up to 3GB of RAM on 32-bit
operating systems and up to 4GB of RAM on 64-bit operating systems.
CMS IntelliCAD® 8.x provides a high degree of compatibility with the
AutoCAD® software command set, as well as LISP and ADS. That means you
can get to work immediately using the AutoCAD® software files, commands
and applications you rely on.
Multi-core processing
CMS IntelliCAD 8.1 now supports multi-core processing on multi-core
processed computers, therefore increasing significantly the number of
processor instructions by running them simultaneously. Multi-core processing
significantly increases CMS IntelliCAD performance. Generally x64 is about
30% faster than 32-bit and multi-core is 1.5 to 3x faster. MULTICORE and
MTMODE new system variables determines how IntelliCAD uses multiple CPUs.

Minimum software and hardware requirements to install and run
CMS IntelliCAD 8.1:
 Microsoft® Windows 10, 8.x, Windows 7, Windows Vista®, including 32bit and 64-bit.
 For 32-bit operating systems, install the 32-bit version of IntelliCAD.
 For 64-bit operating systems, install either the 32-bit or 64-bit version of
Intel-liCAD. The 64-bit version of IntelliCAD runs slightly faster, but can
use all available system memory to handle large drawing files. IntelliCAD
32-bit can access up to 3GB of RAM on 32-bit operating systems and up
to 4GB of RAM on 64-bit operating systems.

CMS IntelliCAD lets you easily create 3-D designs using the 3-D drawing tools.
You can display hidden-line, shaded versions of your 3-D models or your
existing 3-D libraries with a click of a button.
CMS IntelliCAD lets you easily create 3-D designs using the 3-D drawing tools.
You can display hidden-line, shaded, or fully rendered versions of your 3-D
models or your existing 3-D libraries with a click of a button. You can choose
professional-quality, preset options for lighting, surface materials, and
backgrounds. With IntelliCAD's sophisticated raytracing capabilities, you can
produce photorealistic 3-D renderings.
As you create three-dimensional entities, the program displays both wireframe and surface models in wire-frame view, which makes it difficult to
visualize your three dimensional models. To better visualize the model, you
can remove all the lines that are hidden behind other entities or surfaces when
seen from the current viewpoint. Shading goes a step further by removing
hidden lines and then assigning flat colors to the visible surfaces, making them
appear solid. Shaded images are useful when you want to quickly visualize
your model as a solid entity, though they lack depth and definition.
Rendering provides an even more realistic image of your model, complete with
light sources, shadows, surface material properties, and reflections, giving
your model a photo-realistic look. As shown in the following illustrations, when
you render a model, the program removes hidden lines and then shades the
surfaces as though they were illuminated from imaginary light sources.
Microsoft Active X Support
CMS IntelliCAD provides in-place editing of Microsoft® objects, such as those
created in Microsoft® Word and Microsoft® Excel software programs. In-place
editing makes it easy to share data with other users and programs. For
example, you can include IntelliCAD drawings in files created using Microsoft®
Word, and you can insert files created using Microsoft® Word into your
IntelliCAD drawings.
In addition to being compatible with AutoCAD, CMS IntelliCAD goes several
steps further by providing you with innovative features to increase your
productivity.
IntelliCAD Drawing Explorer
Working with CMS IntelliCAD Explorer
IntelliCAD Explorer provides a powerful and convenient way to maintain and
manage many of the features and settings of your drawings. You can use
IntelliCAD Explorer to work with layers, linetypes, text styles, coordinate
systems, named views, blocks, and dimension styles within the current
drawing or to copy this information between drawings.
CMS IntelliCAD Explorer is able to:
• Manage elements related to settings and entities in your drawings.
• Organize information on layers, manage layers, and work with layer
states.
• Create and use linetypes.
• Load text fonts and create text styles.
• Select and control coordinate systems.
• Save and restore named views.
• Work with layouts.
• Save, insert, and manage blocks and external references.
• Work with groups.
• Copy, cut, and paste dimension styles between .dwg files.
In IntelliCAD Explorer, you can work with any file that is referenced from an
open drawing. In addition to commonly used xrefs, or externally referenced
drawing files, you can also manage raster images, .dwf files, .dgn files, .pdf
files, and point clouds directly from IntelliCAD Explorer.
Advanced Layer Tools
CMS IntelliCAD® 8 now provides advanced layer management commands and
toolbars.
There are a variety of new layer management enhancements in IntelliCAD 8.x:
Layer States, Layer Filters, Layer Search Control (Layer Explorer), New Layer
Properties in Explorer (Transparency, New VP Freeze), New Layer Tools
Toolbar and New Layer Tools Menu. Layers in CMS IntelliCAD are like the
transparent overlays you use in manual drafting.
User can use layers to organize different types of drawing information. In
IntelliCAD, each entity in a drawing exists on a layer. When users draw an
entity, it is created on the current layer.
Uers can control the visibility of layers in individual viewports. When turning a
layer off, entities drawn on that layer are no longer visible, and they do not
print. Although a layer may be invisible, you can still select it as the current
layer, in which case new entities are also invisible until the layer is turned back
on. Entities on invisible layers can also affect the display and printing of
entities on other layers. For example, entities on invisible layers can hide other
entities when using the Hide command to remove hidden lines.
Users have several available simultaneous options to access Layer tools. CMS
IntelliCAD Menu, Ribbon tools and Layer toolbar are all available at the user
interface.
Some drawings contain large lists of layers, in which case you can search for
layers by name, or you can organize layers into subsets using layer filters.
Layer states are also useful for drawings that contain many layers. With layer
states, you can assign properties to individual layers and save them in a layer
state, then apply those settings at any time.
Printing and Publishing
With CMS IntelliCAD® users can print a copy of user drawing exactly as
created, or users can add formatting and specify print controls to change how
drawings look when it printed.
Sometimes users may require multiple printed drawings, each with a different
look or layout. For example, it may be needed one printed drawing for a client
presentation, along with several other variations for production contractors.
For each type of printed drawing that users require, they can create a layout
that defines its characteristics, including scale, area to print, print style tables,
and more.
Rather than print one drawing at a time, users can use the Publish command
to save and print a collection of drawings and their layouts. First, by creating a
sheet list by specifying the desired layouts, which can be a combination of
model space and paper space layouts from any drawing. Secondly, saving the
sheet list and then printing it.
3. Compatibility
Native *.dwg and *.dgn support
Native .DWG file support - from version 2.5 to 2015.
CMS IntelliCAD fully supports AutoCAD legacy drawings. IntelliCAD reads and
writes .dwg files in their native format without any loss of data, from AutoCAD
2007 back to Version 11, including AutoCAD LT®. Because IntelliCAD uses
Autodesk DWG format as its native file format, no translation is required.
CMS IntelliCAD® opens, edits, and saves any existing .dwg file files saved in
version 2.5 through 2015, without conversion or data loss. That makes CMS
IntelliCAD® 8.x more compatible with older versions of AutoCAD® software
than AutoCAD® software itself!
As CMS IntelliCAD is able to import DXF, DXB, DWF, DWT and DAE format
files, it can also import MicroStation DGN format files by converting them to
.dwg files.
Command Line, Menus, Toolbars and Properties Pane
CMS IntelliCAD® supports hundreds of AutoCAD® software commands. Select
AutoCAD® software commands from the pull-down menus and toolbar icons,
or type AutoCAD® software command syntax at the optional command line
prompt - whichever best fits your work style. You can work with the CMS
IntelliCAD window and its elements in a variety of ways. For example, you can
display and rearrange the toolbars, display the command bar, and enable the
status bar. The toolbars and command bar can also be floated anywhere on
the screen or docked to the edges of the main IntelliCAD window.
The command bar is a dockable window in which you type IntelliCAD
commands and view prompts and other program messages. By default the
command bar displays the three most recent lines of prompts, but you can
extend the window to display more lines. Move or resize the command bar by
dragging it.
CMS IntelliCAD® also supports AutoCAD® software menus (MNU), dialog
boxes (DCL), fonts (SHX), scripts (SCR), and symbol libraries, so you can
easily transfer custom AutoCAD® software environments into IntelliCAD® and
continue working in your favorite drafting environment.
When you type in the command bar, IntelliCAD suggests names of matching
commands as you type. The suggested names appear in an AutoComplete
window. Simply select the desired command in the list. In addition to
command names, suggestions can include names of external commands,
system variables, aliases, and LISP functions.
Commands can also be deployed from the IntelliCAD dropdown menu by
choosing them from the available list of menu options. The available menu
options depend on the experience level that is set at the IntelliCAD general
options. Users can use both the default Ribbon interface and the IntelliCAD
dropdown menu. IntelliCAD menu bar is not available by default and can easily
be activate through a right mouse click on top of the IntelliCAD Ribbons.
In the Properties pane, changes that you make in the Layer, Color, Thickness,
Lineweight, Linetype, Linetype Scale, and Print Style (if using named print
style tables) fields affect all selected entities. To change the properties of a
single entity in the selection set, choose the entity from the list at the top of
the Properties pane. You can select the entities to be changed using any
entity-selection method.
Ribbon User Interface
Users can work with the IntelliCAD window and its elements in a variety of
ways. For example, you can display and rearrange the toolbars, display the
command bar, and enable the status bar. The toolbars and command bar can
also be floated anywhere on the screen or docked to the edges of the main
IntelliCAD window. With CMS IntelliCAD user can combine both floating
toolbars and menus with the new CMS IntelliCAD ribbon interface.
Switching tabs can also be quickly accomplish by rotating the mouse wheel
while the mouse pointer is over the Ribbon Commands tab.
The ribbon contains several areas from which to choose commands: Ribbon
Application button, Quick Access toolbar and Tabs. Note that some few
features are ONLY available at the PE Plus edition.
• Application button — The Application button in the upper left corner contains
file-related commands, such as New, Open, Import, Export, and more.
• Quick Access toolbar — Contains common commands. Click the Quick Access
toolbar down arrow to choose which commands display and to customize
various visual elements of the drawing window.
• Tabs — Contains related commands grouped together, for example, on tabs
named Home, Edit, Draw 2D, etc.
Home
At this main tab, users have access to the main, and most used, entity
creation and editing features. Draw lines, curves, circles, modify entities, insert
text, annotate and insert dimensions, create, insert and edit cad blocks,
control layer features and share or transfer entities through Windows clipboard
Edit
EDIT tab allows entity editing
Draw & Draw 3D (Solids on PE Plus edition only)
DRAW tab allows users to control how entities are created. Major drawing
entity creation, entity snaps, entity settings, 3D meshes, solids and solids
editing are available at these tabs.
Insert
INSERT tab allows the insertion and control of external references and files.
Annotate
At ANNOTATE tab users are able to create, edit and control text entities, insert
all sort of dimensions including styles editing, revision cloud and wipeout
markups, add and edit annotation scaling.
View
The VIEW tab allos users to control how to navigate and view drawing and
entities. Preset views, Dynamic views, Layouts, View-ports, edit entities DRAW
ORDER, set the visual style, render a 3D scene, set UCS and control display
features.
Output
File Export and Plot features are available at the OUTPUT tab. Exporting
drawing fle or entities to *.DXF, DWF, SAT, BMP, WMF, EMF, PDF, SVG, STL
and DAE file formats. PLOT through PUBLISH or PRINT, and set or manage
print style are features available at this tab.
Tools
TOOLS tab gives access or runs custom applications development such as
Microsoft VBA or .NET, LISP, IRX, SDS. Tools tab also is able to inquiry
drawing entities like AREAS, MASS PROPERTIES, etc. or define variable
settings. Manage drawing settings, external references and customize user
menus, toolbars, keyboard shortcuts and alias. Major EXPLORE features are
also available at the TOOLS tab.
Help
With the HELP tab, users are able to get technical support through the built-in
help feature, full PDF printable user guide (some features are only available at
the full PE Plus edition), use the Bug submitting form, and also check for
version updates or access the license manager. Users can also benchmark their
graphics devices here.
4. Programming Toolkit
Microsoft VBA 7.1 (32 & 64-Bit) development environment
CMS IntelliCAD® 8.0 PE & PE+ includes a full implementation of Microsoft
Visual Basic for Applications Edition (VBA), a development environment that
simplifies the creation and execution of custom applications.
IntelliCAD can be customized using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and
Visual Tools for Applications (VSTA soon available) through an integrated
interface, available from the IntelliCAD Tools menu. IntelliCAD features a broad
range of objects, giving you the power to write your own custom applications
that can run within IntelliCAD.
Microsoft .NET API
CMS IntelliCAD supports the .NET 4.5 programming language through.NET
Classic that more closely matches the .NET interface used by AutoCAD.
The .NET Framework is a development platform for building apps. It consists of
the common language runtime (CLR) and the .NET Framework class library,
which includes classes, interfaces, and value types that support an extensive
range of technologies. The .NET Framework provides a managed execution
environment, simplified development and deployment, and integration with a

Lisp , SDS and DRX / IRX
AutoLISP support (including .DCL).
CMS IntelliCAD® preserves your investment in existing custom applications by
supporting the LISP programming language. You can run LISP applications that
reference any of the hundreds of AutoCAD® software commands with little or
no modification. What's more, IntelliCAD® reads DCL files that contain dialog
control language statements.
In addition, you can run many ADS programs originally written for use with
AutoCAD after first recompiling them using the IntelliCAD run-time libraries.
Many AutoCAD third-party programs are compatible with IntelliCAD.

To run your custom Autodesk® Development System (ADS) applications in

recompiling their popular ADS and C++ applications to run with IntelliCAD®,

Viewing Drawings
The grid can be drawn as lines or dots, can display beyond the drawing
extents, and can be adaptive, which includes automatic resizing and
subdivision based on the zoom level.
The Dynamic Viewpoint command was enhanced to include multiple ways of
selecting a point from which to view three-dimensional entities.
The 3D Orbit command allows you to orbit a drawing, that is, rotate the view.
Commands includes Constrained Orbit, Free Orbit, Continuous Orbit,
Constrained X Orbit, Constrained Y Orbit, and Constrained Z Orbit.

New features available with the latest v7.2 build:
Built-in *.dwg 2013 file conversion. Open a *.dwg 2013 file functionality is now
available; Help menu now includes a check for updates function and a license
manager tool for license deactivation assistance.
CMS IntelliCAD 7.2 includes 600 fixes since the 7.1 release, IntelliCAD 7.2
additionally includes many new features: .NET application support, find and
replace text, import .dgn files, insert underlays, work with Collada (.dae) and
MrSID (.sid) files, and receive alerts in a new Notification Manager. New entity
snap features include: entity snap tracking, Parallel Snap, From Point,
Temporary Tracking Point, and Midpoint Between 2 Points.
CMS IntelliCAD 7.2 achieves new benchmarks in performance with support for
OpenGL that enhances dynamic pan, zoom, redraw, and rotation, especially for
large files, but also internal improvements for large drawing files, including
editing, dynamic dragging, gripping, display, and snaps.
Enhanced existing features include selecting by filter (including proxies),
managing layers at the command line, clipping layout viewports, and more.
CMS IntelliCAD 7.2 integrates the most currently available Open Design
Alliance Teigha® version 3.5.1.

Use polar tracking
Polar tracking is a new tool used to help you draw with precision. When polar
tracking is turned on, guides display on the screen automatically at specified
polar angle increments.
Check the spelling of text
You can check the spelling of single-line text, multiline text, paragraph text,
attributes, attribute definitions, and dimension text. Additional features include
loading dictionaries from different sources, including various languages, and
adding your own words to a custom dictionary.
Copy multiple entities
Now it’s easier to copy multiple entities. IntelliCAD defaults to prompting for
additional copies of selected entities during the Copy command.
Work with additional image formats
The number of image formats available for drawings has been expanded. You
can include images in the following formats: ECW, JPG 2000, ERS, ALG, HDR,
DAT, DOQ, FST, NTF, ASC, IMG, DEM, DDF, DT0 and DT1, and HDF (including
MET, L1R, and L1G).
Layer toolbar
You can now use the Layer toolbar to specify layout-specific layer settings. The
Layer toolbar also displays more text, making it easier to use large layer lists.
Customize the status bar and menus using DIESEL
You can use DIESEL from the command line, in MNU menu files, and in LISP to
customize the status bar and menus. Use new and enhanced system variables
New or enhanced system variables include:
AUTOSNAP, COPYMODE, DCTCUST, DCTMAIN, DCTMAINPATH, DIMTFAC,
POLARADDANG, POLARANG, POLARDIST, POLARMODE, SNAPTYPE, and
TRACKPATH.
What was New in IntelliCAD 6.4
IntelliCAD 6.4 uses the latest advances in the ODA DWGdirect 2.2 libraries,
based on the industry standard OpenDWG, which is widely supported by
commercial software vendors, and the engineering community. IntelliCAD 6.4
utilizes the new ODA libraries to interpret the updated DWG 2007 file format.
IntelliCAD 6.4 will read, display, and write DWG 2007 files, which include 10
new entity types and over 80 new system variables.
Although the focus of v6.4 development has centered on DWG 2007
compatibility, other major enhancements can be found in this release:





A new color book editor provides the ability to effectively organize,
create, and edit color books.
Improved user interface for PDF export provides more flexible output
options.
Dozens of new events and a new Application Preferences object were
added to the COM API.
A new Code Page Manager command allows you to convert drawings or
set your code page language preferences when opening drawings.
Multiple enhancements for raster image handling include:
