Wie sind Drakkar auf euch aufmerksam geworden?
Ich muss dazu etwas weiter ausschweifen. Unsere Band hieß bis zum Jahreswechsel 2008/2009 noch Inner
Aggression. Unter diesem Namen haben wir auch ein Album aufgenommen „Beginning of an inner war“. Wir
haben das Album in erster Linie dazu verwendet, es als Promo Paket an diverse Festivals und Plattenfirmen zu
senden und um dadurch Feedback von Kennern zu erhalten. Darunter waren auch Drakkar welche sofort
Inte resse an uns zeigten.
Der Sound ist extrem dick produziert, die Songs sehr ausgereift. Es knallt, quasi! Hattet ihr die
Möglichkeit, in einem prof. Studio ein Demo vorher aufzunehmen mit dem ihr euch bei Labels
beworben habt?
Das oben erwähnte Album „Beginning of an inner war“ konnten wir in dem semiprofessionellen Studio eines
Bekannten aufnehmen. Das war für uns DIE Chance, unsere Songs in ausreichend guter Qualität einzuspielen und
um uns bei den Plattenfirmen zu bewerben.
Ist die bayrische Provinz so finster, dass man düsteren Black Metal spielen muss?
Wir sehen uns eigentlich eher als melodischen Death Metal, da unsere Einflüsse eher in Gotenburg liegen. Da
durch alle fünf Bandmitglieder verschiedene Einflüsse in die Band kommen (von Black Metal oder Death Metal bis
Hard Rock), ist es sicherlich schwer uns in eine Schublade zu stecken. Wir finden allerdings, dass „Melodic Death
Metal“ am besten zu uns passt. Die bayrische Provinz jedoch, ist keinesfalls finster J.
Wie habt ihr euch als Band gefunden, wie hat die Zeitrechnung AKREA angefangen?
Wie schon oben erwähnt bespielten wir von Frühling 2005 bis zum Jahreswechsel 08/09 als „Inner
Aggression“ den bayerischen Underground. Als dann 2006 unser Gitarrist Stephan zu uns kam, hatten wir den
Gedanken, den Namen zu wechseln, schon einmal ins Auge gefasst, Ihn jedoch wieder verworfen. Mit der
Tatsache dass unser Sänger die Texte mit der Zeit nur noch in unserer Muttersprache schrieb und unser
englischer Bandname nicht mehr passte, war es jetzt vor Vertragsunterzeichnung mit Drakkar genau der richtige
Zeitpunkt Ihn zu ändern . Also begann die Zeitrechnung AKREA eigentlich am 01.01.2009 J
Von was genau handeln die Texte, worum geht es auf LEBENSLINIE?
Die Texte handeln nicht wie bei so vielen Bands unseres Genres um Odin, Fenrir, Walhalla und Rest, obwohl man
doch des Öfteren bei den Texten über Wörter wie "Schwerter" "Bögen" "Kampf" "Schlacht" "längst vergangne´
Zeit" und ähnliches stolpert. Wie das geht? Ganz einfach, die Texte/Lieder sollen den Zuhörer in eine Fantasy-Welt
versetzen. Nun findet sich der Zuhörer beim brachialen Opener des Albums "Imperium" auf einem Land, welches
aus den tiefen der Erde aufsteigt (ähnlich wie Atlantis) und das Leben wieder beginnt zu sprießen. Das "Imperium"
erfährt sozusagen eine Wiedergeburt und dieses Imperium, dieses neugeborene Land ist somit das Fundament
des Albums. Hier spielt sich eine spannende Geschichte ab, aber dazu mehr bei meiner weiterführenden
Erläuterung. Das dritte Lied des Albums "Schwarzer Kern" erzählt von einem Wesen namens "Lavos", welches
schon seit Jahrmillionen im Kern der Welt schläft, nun aber erwacht ist und mit schier unermesslicher Kraft das
Leben der Bewohner terrorisiert. Ein harter Kampf beginnt, doch die Situation erscheint aussichtslos... Niemand
ist seiner Macht gewachsen und er setzt seinen grausamen Feldzug fort. Beim darauffolgenden Song mit dem Titel
"Dieser Klang" wird geschildert, wie sich die Person / der Held nach einer zermürbenden Niederlage gegen Lavos
in einem Traumzustand befindet, in welchem ihm klar wird, dass er und Lavos dieselbe Lebenslinie teilen, woraus
er schließt, dass es sein Leben kosten würde, sobald er seinen größten Feind zerstört. Nun fährt er mit seiner
Reise fort und erkennt schon bald, dass er sich besser rüsten muss, um gegen Lavos bestehen zu können. Hinter
dichtem Geäst schimmert die Klinge des sagenumwobenen Schwertes "Sigmea" hervor, mit welchem sich der
Held nun gut ausgestattet fühlt und die Reise fortsetzt. Er folgt der zerstörerischen Spur der Bestie, doch als es zu
einem erneuten Zusammentreffen der beiden kommt, muss der Krieger erbost feststellen, dass es sich nur um ein
"Trugbild" seines Widersachers handelt. Zornig und voller "Rachsucht" gibt er nun in aller Lande kund, die Jagd auf
die Bestie nun mit vereinten Kräften wieder aufzunehmen. Nach langer Reise, fast "Bis zum Ende der Welt"
treffen sie nun ein letztes mal auf Lavos. Die finale Schlacht hat begonnen und die Akteure schenken sich in ihrem
verbitterten Kampf wirklich nichts. Nach langem Kampf prallen die zwei tobenden Rivalen mit einem gigantischen
Schlag aufeinander. Nachdem sich der Nebel gelegt hat, steht man einem offenen Ende gegenüber, da man nicht
erfährt, ob die Schlacht gewonnen wurde, man dabei umgekommen ist oder überlebt hat und was mit Lavos
geschehen ist.
Die Titel "Tribock" und "Ein Leben lang" sind mehr oder weniger 2 groovige und eingängige Lieder, welche jeweils
eine eigene kleine Geschichte erzählen, jedoch nicht zu den vorherigen Songs im Kontext stehen. "Tribock" lässt,
wie es der Titel schon sagt, die alte Belagerungswaffe wieder aufleben. Ein Gebilde aus Holz und Stahl, welches
schon viele Schlachten entschieden hat und somit etwas kraftvolles und edles ausstrahlt.
"Ein Leben lang" hingegen erzählt die Geschichte eines mächtigen, wolfähnlichen Wesen, welches von einer
kleineren Armee festgehalten wird, da es seine Kraft nicht mehr unter Kontrolle hatte und eine Gefahr für einen
jeden wurde. Die Ketten, die das Urtier gefangen halten, schneiden sich tief in sein Fleisch , doch die Bestie gibt
nicht auf und versucht nach wie vor der Gefahr zu entkommen.
Black Metal hat ja bekanntlich in Norwegen den Ursprung, amerikanische BM Bands werden oft
belächelt – was sind eure Ziele mit der Band?
Unsere Ziele mit der Band sind einfach. Wir wollen weiter Spaß an unserer musikalischen Tätigkeit haben, wollen
viele Gigs s pielen, weil wir ne absolute Liveband sind und am liebsten alles und überall auftreten würden.
Natürlich wollen wir noch ein paar Alben veröffentlichen und das Leben mit AKREA genießen J
Steht ihr in Kontakt mit dieser „Szene“ oder ist euch das relativ egal?
Wie schon erwähnt haben wir unsere Wurzeln eher im melodischen Death Metal, wobei aber auch Black Metal
Elemente in unserer Musik zu finden sind. Daher ist der Bezug zur Black Metal Szene vorhanden, jedoch in eher
eingeschränkter Form. Einige unserer befreundeten Bands fabrizieren auch richtig rohen Black Metal und damit
haben wir auch überhaupt kein Problem.
Die Szene an sich ist uns eigentlich eher egal, vor allem die endlosen true und untrue Diskussionen die immer
wieder zu lesen sind. Für uns zählt die Musik und nicht der gedankliche Hintergrund. Daher distanzieren wir uns
auch von jeglicher Form von Extremismus oder Faschismus oder den modern gewordenen Odinverehrereien mit
denen zur zeit viele Bands versuchen ihr Geld zu verdienen.

1. In a time where everybody’s downloading and all, what’s a record company’s worth these
days?
Oh there are a few reasons why a record company is really necessary these days, too. For example we now get
“Lebenslinie” distributed via Sony BMG and have the opportunity to launch it over the whole european market.
Because of financial reasons we weren’t been able to record “Lebenslinie” with such a good producer like
V.Santura from Dark Fortress. Another great thing is that they have so much experience to lead us through the
evil and heavy music business which had been an unknown territory for us so far. (Jonas)
2. What do you want to achieve within five years with Akrea?
We want to release a few more new records with Drakkar and play as much shows as we can. Playing shows is
the reason why we are sill making music together because it is so much fun for us. Think that this is the reason
why we are still alive J Haha (Jonas)
3. What’s is ‘Lebenslinie’ about, which message you want to carry out with it?
Oh I don’t think that it is a message or an attitude we want to carry out with it. Our singer Sebi just wanted to
sing about the ups and downs in everyone’s life and that is also the idea behind the title “Lebenslinie”. No one
knows what the future will bring us and there will be difficulties and also nice and easy things to handle. The
meaning is to confront with risks and to overcome obstacles to get a good result in the end. (Jonas)
4. As I saw on your Myspace video’s, you guys seem to had a lot of fun in the studio. Is having
much fun essential for making a good album & enjoining the band? (why or why not?)
We think that having fun during the recording sessions is really essential. With V. Santura recording was a nice
and familiar atmosphere. There was a lot of fun and a lot of laughing during the sessions. We completely forgot
everything outside and lived in our own ideal world there for a week. It’s just relaxing and great to really
concentrate on the music. He also gave us feedback about our songs and said to us when he had suggestions
for a modification of the songs. (Jonas)
5. If you could choose, which band would you like to support on a festival? (Jonas)
Haha I think that would be Arch Enemy or Amon Amarth. Especially for me it would be Aborted J I love them.
But I think it is far more than just play with the bands you most like. I like to meet cool people to talk with and
(Jonas)
6. Why do you like melodic death metal/black metal so much? (Is it the loudness or maybe the
aggression or the impact for instance?)
I think it's the energy behind the music. Playing a gig in front of hundreds of people and watching the crowd go
crazy is the best thing on earth. It's also a good outlet for any negative feelings like aggression and anger, so if
you have to blow off some steam, just get your instrument and convert your anger to music. The result is asskicking metal and a good mood. (Stephan)
7. What is your biggest example if we talk about music?
There are many great bands out there and every member of Akrea has a pretty different taste of music, so it's
hard to name only one Band or Musician. But all in all one could s ay that most of our influence comes from
Scandinavian bands like Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy or Dark Tranquillilty. (Stephan)
8. What makes playing in Akrea so great?
Playing in Akrea means that every rehearsal and gig is pure fun. We are very good friends and we have the
same (strange) kind of humor. So there is many laughing and fooling around, which is in my opinion very
important for a band. We don't take ourselves too serious, try to have fun and infect our audience with our
music. (Stephan)
9. Lately more ba nds seem to sing in German (Grantig and Narzis for example). Can you
explain why?
It's hard to find a specific reason for that. Germany has many good bands and at least since Rammstein,
everybody has seen that you don't have to sing in English to be successful all over the world. Therefore young
bands start to identify with their mother tongue, instead of trying to sing in English like almost any other band.
I think, German is a good language for metal, because it has a raw sound and since most young bands don't
expect themselves to be so lucky so that their music is spread all over europe or even all over the world, many
bands start to have German lyrics because it's easier to express themselves. (Stephan)
10. Every song is in German, why did you choose for your own language instead of English to
make the music more interesting for non-German countries?
When we started to make music, we actually had English songs. But over time, our vocalist Sebi realized that he
could do much better lyrics in German and express himself in a more poetical way. We didn't think about
making our music more interesting for other countries, because it's hard enough to be successful in Germany.
We never thought that we would have the chance to sign a big label like Drakkar, so we didn't worry about the
rest of europe. Now, looking back at the band's history, I would say it was the best decision to have only
German songs. It has become an important part of our music and we are very pleased with the result of our
work. The new album represents our music perfectly and we hope that many people can identify with the
music as much as we do - regardless of the language. (Stephan)

Akrea Interview mit Demonic Nights (AT) - 20. April 2009
Die meisten unserer Leser lernen euch jetzt mit eurem Drakkar-Debüt „Lebenslinie“ kennen. Könnt ihr mir
ein wenig über eure Bandgeschichte bis hin zum Deal mit Drakkar erzählen?
Hallöchen und Danke auch schon mal im voraus für das Interesse an uns. Ich schweife dazu jetzt mal etwas
weiter aus. Bandgründung war im Frühling 2005. Wir nannten uns damals „Inner Aggression“, da unsere
damaligen Einflüsse eher bei Sodom und Destruction lagen und auch die Musik stark in die Thrash Richtung
ging. Wir spielten dann einige Shows bei uns in der Region, bis wir dann schließlich im Oktober 2006 auf
Stephan Schafferhans stießen als zweiten Gitarristen. Mit Ihm änderte sich die Musik und es wurde
melodischer und Death-Metal lastiger im Inner Aggression Lager. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt stand das erste mal die
Diskussion im Raum, den Namen eventuell zu ändern. Nach dem wir dann bis Ende 2008 so weiter machten wie
bisher, kam die Zusage von Drakkar und wir dachten uns: „Wenn nicht jetzt, wann dann?“, nachdem uns auch
Drakkar die Namensänderung ans Herz legten. Dann ging alles ganz schnell. Im Dezember 08 ging’s ins Studio
zu Victor und jetzt sitze ich hier, schreib dieses Interview und warte bis „Lebenslinie“ am Freitag (24.04.) auf
den Markt kommt.
Wie hat die Zusammenarbeit mit Victor Bullok (aka V. Santura of Dark Fortress Fame) funktioniert?
Ohne jetzt großartig schleimen zu wollen war die Zusammenarbeit mit Victor einfach nur wunderbar. Es war
dermaßen relaxt bei Ihm, dass wir uns voll und ganz auf die Musik konzentrieren konnten. Wir gingen mit den
bereits komplett fertigen Songs ins Studio, und Victor legte uns hier und da ein paar Verbesserungen nahe. Ich
kann sein Studio mit seiner Arbeitsweise nur jeder Band empfehlen J
Auffallend ist, wie ihr euch gegen die Einteilung in die Pagan- bzw. Viking-Schublade stimmt. Warum stimmt
das eurer Meinung nach nicht und wo seht ihr euch selbst?
Naja wie soll ich sagen… Uns ist auf den Shows bisher aufgefallen, dass so manche Band alleine durch die Sache,
dass sie Odin gut finden, schon hunderte Fans mehr hatten, Sie musikalisch jedoch nicht gerade ansprechend
waren. Wir wollen eben durch unsere Musik überzeugen, dass ist die erste Sache. In zweiter Linie sind unsere
Texte völlig un-pagan. Unser Sänger schreibt in einer Fantasiewelt und nicht über nordische Mythologie. Das
dritte wäre, dass unsere Einflüsse eher bei Arch Enemy und Dark Tranquillity liegen.
Generell, wer sind für euch Einflussreiche Bands und in wie weit wollt ihr (um auf die Bio Bezug zu nehmen)
Eisregen und Equilibrium tatsächlich Konkurrenz machen?
Also jetzt explizit Bands zu nennen fällt mir relativ schwierig, da jeder von uns andere musikalische Einflüsse
hat. Diese reichen von Black Metal über moderneren Metal-Core bis hin zu Blues oder Jazz. Wenn ich mich jetzt
wirklich festlegen müsste würde ich Bands wie Arch Enemy oder Dark Tranqulillity als generelle Einflüsse
angeben. Jedoch machen wir uns darüber eher weniger Gedanken, wir spielen was uns gefällt und was sich für
uns am besten anhört;). Ja um auf Eisregen und Equilibrium Bezug zu nehmen denke ich, dass einige
musikalische und lyrische Parallelen vorherrschen und sich Hörer dieser Bands sicherlich auch sehr gut mit
unseren Material anfreunden könnten.
Ihr haltet eure Texte auf Deutsch. Warum gerade die Landessprache, die eure Hörer mit Sicherheit leichter
verstehen? Setzt man sich dabei nicht gerade einer größeren „Gefahr“ aus, (miss)verstanden zu werden?
Wir sind nun mal deutsch und das ist unsere Muttersprache, die sich für extreme Musik übrigens hervorragend
eignet, wie wir finden. Es ist kalt, kantig und hört sich irgendwie böse an. Das gefällt uns. Außerdem sagt unser
Sänger, dass er sich auf deutsch, lyrisch viel besser entfalten könne. Ich kann mir dies gut vorstellen.
Es sind momentan einige Shows im angrenzenden Bayern geplant. Wann wird man euch hierzulande zu
Gesicht bekommen?
Ich hoffe bald J Wir waren mal für das Summer-Nights im Voting aber man hat sofort gesehen, dass wir bei
euch einfach noch zu unbekannt sind, also haben wir’s aufgegeben. Es sind einige Dinge in Planung die uns
durch ganz Deutschland tragen könnten, ob wir dieses Jahr noch nach Österreich kommen hoffe ich, weis ich
jedoch noch nicht.
Als abschließende Frage, was macht Akrea eurer Meinung nach einzigartig und spannend?
Oh ohne arrogant wirken zu wollen, find ich dass uns die Melodievielfalt in den Songs spannend und
interessant macht. Einzigartig machen uns unsere vielen Einflüsse, die im ganz allgemeinen vom extremsten
Death Metal über Edguy bis hin zu Dissection reichen. Im Detail würde ich sagen wir vereinen musikalisch die
Stile von Amon Amarth und Dark Tranquillity, geben dem ganzen einen Schuss Dissection und verpassen dem
Paket ne deutsche, lyrisch sehr schöne, Sprache.
Hier ist noch Platz für ein paar letzte Worte an unsere Leser und eure österreichischen Fans:
Letze Worte sind mir wichtig: Egal ob Death-, Black-, Viking- oder Pagan Metal oder sonst irgendwas. Tut uns

Akrea Interview mit Thoughts of Metal
1. Before changing the name to AKREA, you were known as INNER AGGRESSION and as I was
going to ask how AKREA was formed, I guess it's best to start with INNER AGGRESSION:
a) What triggered you to start a band and what's the story behind the name?
We began playing together in winter 2004/05 when our drummer and me were jamming
around. I already had some experience in playing in a band and so we decided to start Inner
Aggression. After Chris (Bass) and Sebi (Vocals) joined the band and our line up was
completed so far, we thought about different Bandnames and came to the conclusion that
Inner Aggression would suite quite well to our musical style (regarding the Bands we listened
to that time, mainly old Trash Metal acts like Sodom or Destruction).
b) What's the reason for choosing AKREA as new name? Copyright? Musical direction?
We decided to change our name into Akrea because of some different reasons. First of all we
changed our musical direction since the entry of Stephan (guitar) in Summer 2006.
Henceforward our music became more technical and complex and the new given opportunity
to play different leads with two guitars led to more melodic parts in our songs.
Furthermore we recognized that German was the better language for our lyrics in comparison
with English. So it always was a strage feeling to have an English bandname but singing
German.
Also our personal musical direction changed from oldschool Trash Metal towards Death Metal in
general and so the sense of the name Inner Aggression wasn’t what we wanted to express
with our music.
Regarding all aspects we finally decided to change our Bandname into Akrea after it became
obvious that Drakkar Records would sign us.

Any plans to re-release or re-record (some of) the songs/releases you made as INNER
AGGRESSION?
We released „Beginning of an inner war“ in August 2007 and we already thought about rereleasing it again, but there are no concrete plans yet. At the moment we just want to
promote our current album „Lebenslinie“ as best as we can and also songwriting for the
upcoming album has already started. So for now we want to concentrate on our current and
upcoming material ;).
3. How do you pronounce AKREA? Like in "agree" but with a k, or similar to IKEA or ...?
Hey you are the first one asking this question! In fact we really pronounce it similar to IKEA.
4. Which musical influences did each of you bring to the table? Which bands do you like?
In general we all listen to melodic Death Metal. But of course everyone of us has its own favorite
band and his own little differences regarding the musical direction. I am more into Black
Metal than the other ones, for example, Chris also listens to New Metal and a lot of modern
Metal too, and Sebi likes some older acts like Bathory.

If I read/googled well, there have been some style changes over the years: Melodic
Thrash/Black Metal, Melodic Black/Death Metal and now Melodic Death Metal. Is this a
genre you're most comfortable with?
Yes, there were some style changes as I already mentioned and meanwhile we are really most
comfortable with melodic Death Metal. But we don’t think about any musical directions when
we are writing riffs and so we don’t see us „trapped“ in the melodic Death Metal genre. I
think making music is a dynamic process and we merge our musical experiences and the
result can vary regarding musical direction.

"Lebenslinie" is a very solid release, like I mentioned in the review. When did you start
writing it and how did you divide tasks?
We started writing for „Lebensline“ shortly after releasing „Beginning of an inner war“ by writing
the two songs „Ein Leben Lang“ and „Tribock“ . After that we collected ideas and riffs and the
main part of the songwriting took place between August and November 2008. Melodies and
stuff were written by Stephan, Chris and me. After the songs were arranged at the computer,
Sebi wrote all the lyrics
7. How did the recording sessions go? Did you have influence on every step of the way?
We recorded at Woodshed Studios in Landshut with V.Santura of Dark Fortress and we are more
than happy that we decided to record „Lebenslinie“ there. Santura helped us in all tasks and
the atmosphere in the studio was just great. The music has already been written when we
came to the studio and so we were able to fully concentrate on recording our music. At the
mastering process we were able to bring in our ideas and wishes and we are completely
satisfied with the results!
8. How big was the label's influence regarding compositions, production, ...?
There were absolutly no influence on the part of the label. We had no limitations in any musical
direction and they were also very satisfied with our choice of the studio and gave us full
support.
9. Who made the cover art? And what's the idea behind it?
The complete artwork were done by Andreas Reichl and Holger Fichtner at Webprojaggt, a small
design studio in Pressath. The idea behind the artwork was just to symbolize the meaning of
our album named „Lebensline“ (engl. lifeline). At the cover you see a big hand (which stands
for the whole life) and on its surface you have a path symbolising the lifeline. In the end you
can interprete the cover in every way you want. We want to make as little mental limitations
as possible (also regarding the lyrics in our songs) and want the listener to think about
everything on his own and come to his own personal conclusion.
10. With that the lyrical aspect also comes into view. Are all songs connected or do they stand
on their own? Plus, what themes did you use and where did you gather inspiration (books,
tv, websites, real-life, ...)?
No, th e songs are not connected to each other, they all have their own story. Sebi writes in his
own antiquated and fictioned world and deals with the normal problems of life in a symbolic
and metaphorical way. He gathers his inspiration from everything and everywhere, I guess,
but to be honest I don’t know exactly. He’s a very creative person so his influence are
probably very wide-ranged.
11. How did the deal with Drakkar Records come to existence?
It was not that excitingJ. We just applyed for a contract and Drakkar replied merely some weeks
after we sent our promotion material.
12. What's the importance of being signed to a label (Drakkar or another label), in your
opinion?
A label gives you the oportunity to fully concentrate on making music and present it in a
professional way. This is the most important advantage for us. We no longer have to care
about all the organizing things we were diverted with before. An other importand advantage
is the fact that we are now able to present us and our music to a much greater audience
which wouldn’t be possible without a deal.
13. Lots of bands sing in English, yet you/AKREA and some others kept it German. Is it because
it's easier or because there's already enough English-sung Metal or a combination of both?
Finally it’s just the fact that the German language in its edged and rough style suits perfect to our
music in our opinion. We wrote some songs with English lyrics a while ago, but we recognized
that German corresponded with our music much better than English.
14. Concerning live performances, any plans to play abroad?
Recently we played in Netherland which was a great experience for us and now we are hot to play
abroad againJ. Unfortunalty there are still no conrete plans to play abroad, but I think that
we will be hopefully able to tour Europe next year.
15. Do you still play songs from the INNER AGGRESSION period?
No, not at the moment. We still have some songs we like to play from the „Beginning of an inner
war“ album and they will return in our live-set, I think, but now we fully want to support our
new release „Lebenslinie“
16. How much time does AKREA require? And do you still have time for hobbies, friends, etc...?
It’s still within the scope. We splitted up all upcoming tasks and so we have no problems still being
able to study, having hobbies, friends, partying hard and so on;)
