Ducks, Ducks and More Ducks
Duck Hunting returns to Flint Oak
this September. This new opportunity to
enjoy Flint Oak even more with your
family, friends and business partners
promises to be just the ticket for our
Members. Starting September 16, you
will be able to experience our newest offering, guided duck hunts. These hunts
will begin thirty minutes before sunrise
and will conclude early enough that
Members will be able to go on a morning Field Hunt or Driven shoot.
For the Member and his guest that
enjoy an action packed day, this will
work perfectly as they will now be able
to have, at Flint Oak, three hunts in a
single day. Throw in a little 5-Stand
around 5:00 pm when your day’s hunts
are over, then finish with cocktails then
dinner and you will have just experienced a little utopia Flint Oak style. It
also promises to make you sleep well
that night !
Three blinds, accommodating up to
six guns each, are strategically placed
in the best areas on West Lake to insure
plenty of good old decoying duck hunting action. Steel shot and a plugged gun
will be required, but no waterfowl
stamps will be needed with our special
Controlled Shoot Licensing. Retrievers
will be used to pick up your group’s harvest and watching them work for you
will also add to the fun.
So get to the Pro Shop and get your
camo clothing and start practicing with
your duck call; we’re going duck hunting
this fall at Flint Oak! Quack-Quack

Help us serve you better. We schedule our personnel based on the
reservations we receive. This is why we require advance reservations
on ALL activities. Spur of the moment decisions to add to, or change,
scheduled activities are difficult and sometimes impossible to
accommodate. The more accurate the information you provide in
advance, the better we can serve you.

Quietly Watch
That Perfect Buck
Zone 5 Sporting Clays Championship
Flint Oak will host, from September
8 through September 11, the nine state
Zone 5 Sporting Clays Championship.
This event will bring to Kansas and Flint
Oak over 300 shooters vying for top
honors before the National Championships in late October in Texas. The
states that make up the National Sporting Clays Association’s Zone 5 are: Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota,
Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois,
and Missouri and of course Kansas.
The shooting will start on Thursday,
September 8, with Small Gauge, pump
gun, Side X Side and FITASC events.
On Friday, the 100 target 5-Stand event
and the 100 target Preliminary sporting
clay events will be running as well. The
200 Main Event will run both Saturday
and Sunday with contestants shooting
100 targets daily.
To make sure the shooters have
plenty to occupy their time after making
the trek to Kansas, Saturday will have
the 100 target Oakley Cup Sporting
Clay event. This event is one of Flint
Oak’s annual signature shoots that always draws a large number of shooters.
On Sunday the 100 target K-State Cup
will round out the four day weekend
events with over eighty percent of the
proceeds from this shoot going directly
to the new “Wildlife and Outdoor Enterprise Management Program” started
just over two years ago. Students from
this great new program will be assisting
Flint Oak all weekend and will actually
run, in its entirety, the Sunday K-State
Cup event on their own as part of their
educational process.
All in all this should be very exciting
event with a great time had by all.

Just the thought of deer hunting
makes me think of cold frosty mornings,
snow flying in the air, the thrill of being
in the deer stand with the early morning
light shining through the trees while I
quietly watch that perfect buck come
into sight. Once again Flint Oak will
offer deer hunting to our members. The
stands are set and ready to go, the deer
plots and feeders will be up and running
when the time is right and I will be more
than ready to take you out for your deer
hunt. There should be plenty of deer
available for that perfect hunt and you
can go out both morning and afternoon
if you wish.
Last season a father and son came
to Flint Oak and I remember how excited the young man was when he shot
his first deer right here at Flint Oak.
Now that makes for special memories !
Be sure and come to Flint Oak this
coming season to deer hunt, and make
some special memories of your own.
See you this fall !

Dede Rayphand, Flint Oak’s new accommodations manager, was born and
raised in California. She has three children. In her early twenties she moved
to the Northern Mariana Islands where her family is from. After spending nineteen years in the Marianas she then moved to Hawaii. Dede’s entire professional career has been in the food and beverage industry and she has loved
every minute of it. “Coming from the islands to Kansas is a huge change and
something I never imagined I would do, however I have met great people and I
love my job here at Flint Oak. I can now see Kansas as a place I call home.”

Still Good Guys
It’s nice to know there are still good
guys out there. Let me tell you a tale.
An unknown Flint Oak Member was
headed to Flint Oak with a friend when
they saw a car traveling on the road with
a low tire. After numerous attempts to
flag down the vehicle to inform the
driver of the low tire, they finally got the
car to pull over. They found the driver
was a single mother, traveling with her
small children, who was reluctant to pull
over not knowing what these two gentlemen wanted. The Member and his
friend could tell that the vehicle was
going to need more help than they
could provide along the side of the road
and had her follow them to the Severy
Co-op station. The attendant informed
both parties that the tire was not repairable and was going to need replaced.
The unknown Flint Oak
Member could tell the woman was running short of funds and would be unable
to purchase the needed tire. He took
the attendant aside and told him to get
her fixed up and if more was needed to
make her vehicle road worthy, to go
ahead and do it. He informed the manager of the station that he was headed
to Flint Oak and would stop on his way
back the next day to settle up.
The Severy Co-op station repaired
her vehicle and sent her on her way.
The next day as promised the unknown
Flint Oak Member stopped by on his
way home and took care of the bill.
It is wonderful to know that there are
still considerate, caring people on the
roads of America.
No one knows who the Member is,
so whoever you are, a great big THANK
YOU from the entire Flint Oak staff.
SUPER Quail
The Super Quail is back and no,
they’re not bigger, there are just more of
them. Last March towards the end of
season we found ourselves long on
quail and started offering some quail
only field hunts for our Members and
their guests. These hunts were greatly
enjoyed during the last twenty days of
season; one member stated the Super
Quail hunt “reminded him of the way
quail hunting was when he was
younger”. Another Member told us that
he and his two guests “shot ten boxes
of shells in three hours and it was the
most fun” he had ever had on a hunt.
Obviously it is very enjoyable as multiple Members, after having such a great
experience, rebooked before the end of
season. Last spring these hunts aver-

aged twelve covey flushes, with one
member saying there was nonstop action and shooting from beginning to
end.
We are offering the Super Quail hunt
option again for this upcoming season.
When you book a field hunt remember
you now have the option of a Super
Quail or our traditional standard mixed
bag field hunts (quail, pheasant and
chukar).
Once again Flint Oak has upped the
ante on ways you can enjoy your days
in the field. We can only accommodate,
however, a limited number of Super
Quail hunts daily, so be sure and book
your hunts early to insure you have access to all available options. Both are
the same price, both are a world of fun.
1st Ever Hawaiian Luau at Flint Oak
Flint Oak celebrated our first ever
Hawaiian Luau on July 2, 2011. With
outdoor seating under tents for about
200 guests, the evening started with
cold beverages (Pina Coladas and Margaritas anyone?) and leis to get into the
tropical feel of the night. Some guests
arrived dressed for the occasion wearing muumuus, Hawaiian shirts and decorating their hair with flowers. The
evening got even better when a 225
pound pig was pulled out of the ground
fully cooked and wrapped in banana
leaves. Follow that with an array of
6
other island favorites like Mahi Mahi and
Haupia Coconut Pie, a wonderful selection of fruits and it was a great Luau.
But the Flint Oak festivities didn’t stop
there; an entire dinner show with the
TeKana Hau Nui Dancers performing
cultural dances from islands across the
Pacific made this truly a night of tropical fun and culture. And the Flint Oak
festivities still didn’t stop; the finale of
the night was a full fireworks show ! It
was truly amazing to see all of this in
the middle of Kansas. It is not a night
that will be soon forgotten.

Vvvvvery Nice !
By Steve Cornett
Summer of 2011 was a good season for bass fishing at Flint Oak. Numerous fishing trips went out and
numerous bass were caught. Many of
the bass caught were six pounds or bigger and one of the wipers weighed in at
twelve pounds, vvvvvery nice ! It was
wonderful to see so many people take
advantage of the guided fishing, even
thought it was the hottest summer
we’ve seen in many years. It was fun
for all the fishing guides and myself to
get to go out and show you a great time
on Indian Lake. Remember that guided
fishing season will stay open into October, for as long as the weather permits.
I am looking forward to having another spectacular season next summer,
so be sure and think Flint Oak when
you want to have great times fishing.

Incredible Summer Season
By Josh Reed
This past summer’s extra warm season kicked off with the K-State Wildlife
and Outdoor Enterprise Management
program students coming to Flint Oak
and getting great hands on experience.
They received instruction from some of
the most knowledgeable and experienced people in the shooting sports
world, including Brent Fleming, world
renowned target setter and owner of
GP Traps.
Spring Sporting Clays League had a
great turnout and beautiful weather. As
spring rolled toward summer we had
several charity shoots including YMCA,
Ducks Unlimited, Red Cross and BustA-Clay for Kid’s Sake.
Flint Oak’s NSCA “Fire the Works”
shoot was held July 2, during the big
Luau weekend. A good shoot with over
thirty shooters leading into a night of fun
and fireworks, it was hard to beat.
As we headed into the second
month of triple digit heat the 21st Annual
Boy Scout Shoot was held August 20.
To top off the summer season the Zone
5 Championship will be held at Flint
Oak September 8 through September
11, 2011 with the Oakley Cup 100
Sporting Clays Event on Saturday, September 10 and the K-State Cup 100
Sporting Clays Event on Sunday, September 11. With several hundred shooters competing over four days, the air will
be filled with the great smell of burnt
gun powder. What a tremendous finish
to an incredible summer season.

Flint Oak’s
New Chefs
As some of you might already know,
there are quite a few new faces here at
Flint Oak, to be more specific we have
Chef Vincent Reif. Originally from
Kansas, Chef Reif was working as the
Executive Chef at Ski Valley in Taos
New Mexico. Flint Oak is very fortunate
to now have him as our Executive Chef.
We would also like to congratulate him
on the recent birth of his first child, a
baby girl.
Chef Jeff Love comes to us from the
Calistoga Bar & Grill and the Gilcrease
Museum, Tulsa, OK. The name is no
joke when you meet Chef Love you will
feel the love, he’s just one of those people you meet and you feel right at home.

Last year’s shoot was held after our
bi-annual Update went to press, but we
are still very excited to tell everyone
about the fun that was had by all who
experienced the biggest Open European in Flint Oak’s history.
An amazing record breaking 1,500
pheasants were driven to free flight on
March 26, 2011 in remembrance of Ray
Walton the founder of Flint Oak. Seventy-eight Shooters attended the event,
and the high flying pheasants tested
everyone’s shooting ability over the
three hour time frame.
Before Ray’s death in July 2007, he
had the vision that a new four year degree program was needed to help insure that strong candidates were being
turned out for the Hunting/Outdoor market place. His vision culminated in
Kansas State University’s new Wildlife
and Outdoor Recreation Management
Program headed up by Dr. Tom Warner.
Graduates of the program have a Bachelor of Science degree with a Minor in
Business that should prove invaluable
as they chose their career paths.
Flint Oak established and administers the Ray Walton/Flint Oak scholarship for freshmen enrolled in the
program and for the past two years has
awarded two $1000.00 scholarships.
$50.00 per hunter entry goes directly
into the scholarship fund. In the future,
if we can repeat the success and
growth of this event, along with the con9
tributions from a couple of very special
Members, we should be able to help
even more new students.
This year’s event will be held Saturday March 31, 2012 and we plan to
again do at least 1500 pheasants. If
you didn’t get the opportunity to attend
last year’s event to witness the magic of
such a grand European, or if you did
and want to do it again, be sure to call
early and reserve your spot as it will for
sure sell out.
Dog Department Adds Staff
By Landon Crow
The dog department added some
new staff to the program this summer.
Steve Herring came aboard to train
dogs for the kennel. Steve is a very established trainer with many good techniques that will help the dogs at Flint
Oak. He is also a very experienced
guide and dog handler. Additionally he
has won a lot of field trials and competed in many dog competitions.
The kennel has also added two new
kennel staffers to help with maintenance and to help guide, Brent Rutledge and William Reddin. Jamie
Dennis is the main kennel person.
Jamie has worked for Flint Oak for five
years and is doing an excellent job
keeping the kennel clean and healthy.
2nd Annual Kansas Salutes the Troops
All of us over the years have seen
the pictures and stories in the news of
our Servicemen and women coming
home from war with permanent disabilities they have received defending our
many special freedoms. For many of
us, this is as close to the real stories as
we will ever get. Last October we
hosted the first Kansas Salutes the
Troops event and it was by far the most
moving and touching two days I have
ever had. I was lucky enough to meet
many of our Warriors who came home
with life altering physical and mental
scars of war. The attitudes these special
folks have amazed me while we got to
know them during Sporting Clays, dinner and the European Pheasant shoot.
Flint Oak was fortunate to be chosen by the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) to host this special weekend.
The PVA has, for more than 64
years, been on a mission to change
lives and build brighter futures for our
seriously injured heroes—to empower
these brave men and women with what
they need to achieve the things they
fought for: freedom and independence.
Proceeds from various events like
this held across the country go to help
our veterans in many ways. It also allows them the opportunity to try new
events such as European Pheasant
shoots at Flint Oak. During the event
held at Flint Oak last year I was lucky
enough, along with many others, to witness one of these events bring help to a
Warrior.
Unknown to any of us, a Warrior
checked into the office around 3:30 PM
on Friday evening, signed his hunting license and got his room key. He then
proceeded to the Lodge to get settled
into his room. As he walked into the
Lodge, where others had already gathered, he had an anxiety attack and went
back to sit in his vehicle. After sitting
there for about 45 minutes he decided
to try entering the building again; this
time the crowd gathered around the
door was smaller and he was able to
make it to his room without having to
talk with anyone. No one, from the organizer to the Flint Oak staff, knew any
of this had happened. It was not until
Saturday night when after winning a
new Benelli Shotgun in the Sporting
Clays competition that the entire crowd
learned he had not been out of his
house for the last two years. He informed us that the only time he had left
his house after returning home was for
treatments for his condition. There was
not a dry eye in the room while he told
the crowd of how he had gone back to
his truck, was not sure if he could be
around this many people and the
thought of actually driving back to Fort
Riley had crossed his mind many times.
This young man was able to come full
circle while being at Flint Oak for two
and a half days - from being around
great people - being around hunters
and outdoorsman - from being able to
talk through some problems he was
having, he was able to look men in the
eye and give them a firm hand shake by
the time he left the Ranch. He actually
said that the two and a half days spent
at Flint Oak had been more beneficial
than the two years of counseling he had
Flint Oak’s

been going through. This is just one of
the many stories the participants who
attended last year’s event experienced.
This year Flint Oak’s Kansas Salute
the Troops event is being held Friday
October 14, 2011 through Sunday, October 16, 2011. If you would like to participate in this year’s Kansas Salutes
the Troops event please contact
Matthew Cook, 800-545-6200, extension 1135 or Marsha Stumpo, the event
coordinator, [email protected]. I promise you that it will be a
life altering weekend at Flint Oak and
you will go home a changed person with
a great feeling in your heart.
The Single Best
The single best offering Flint Oak
has! Did you know that two years ago
Flint Oak started offering Junior Memberships for those who are 21-40 years
of age. Many of them have gone to the
children of current Members in the form
of gifts and others were given to “up and
coming” business leaders by their supervisors and mentors for jobs well
done. Junior Memberships must be
sponsored by a current Flint Oak Member and cost $1000 per year with $900
in Hunt/Fish credits. If you have a child
or special person to whom you wish to
say thank you, take advantage of Flint
Oak’s best offering ….a Junior Membership.
Cover’s Good
Guides Ready
By Rob Roberts
It has been a sweltering summer,
but fall is not that far away. As I am writing this it is 108 degrees outside (believe me I can’t wait for cooler weather).
One of the major projects this past summer was to get completely hooked up to
rural water. Mission accomplished including some rerouting so that we can
pump water from Center Lake for use in
our sprinkler system.
It is a time of preparation, we have
been doing a lot of brush control to
make your hunting easier. The guides
are getting tuned up and ready to hunt
this Fall. Believe me, the cover on the
preserve is still very thick with a lot of
good places for the birds to hide this
winter – just the sound of winter makes
me want to go hunting! We are merely
stepping stones away from the first day
afield with a good friend and great dogs.
I am really looking forward to taking you
hunting this fall. Make your reservations
early to get the dates that work best for
you.
Shooting Games
By Josh Reed
Our meeting rooms and facilities will
accommodate all types and sizes of
corporate meetings. Now throw in our
great shooting facility, and you have a
new and exciting way to entertain your
colleagues and/or customers. Flint
Oak’s Sporting Clays Course accommodates groups from small to large.
The 5-Stand, Trap and Skeet games are
also available and can be shot under
the stadium lights after dark. This can
offer some very unique twists to shooting clays.
These shooting games are a great
way to stretch out and “shoot” the
breeze after taking care of business.
We promise everyone in the group will
enjoy the experience from seasoned
shooters to first timers. So make a
reservation to hunt, have your meeting
and then, to top it all off, enjoy a round
or two of shooting games.
Experience Flint Oak in Comfort
By Josh Reed
Come out and enjoy Flint Oak’s field
hunts in a new way, by going on our
“Gator Hunt”
Flint Oak has updated our Gator
rides to a more powerful and comfortable experience for our guests. Gator
Hunts are designed to include all of the
action packed excitement of a traditional field hunt without all the aches
and discomforts that follow an all-day
outing. They are a great way for our
more “seasoned” Members to get out
and watch some great dog work. The
gators are also a great way for your
spouse or children to venture out in the
field and enjoy the hunt.
So come out and experience the
great sights and sounds of Flint Oak in

European Pheasant Hunting
A Royal Adventure for All Ages
The driven pheasant shoot, reserved for Europe’s royalty and aristocracy until the mid 20th Century, has a long and rich
history. The shoot begins with the Horns men. The hunting horns blow notifying the shooters to begin and the “beaters”, traditionally servants walking through the woods driving the game ahead of them, start pushing the birds towards the shooters.
When the birds approach the clearing at the edge of the forest they flush high and fly very, very fast towards the waiting guns
providing “missile” like targets. Traditionally, midway through the hunt, servants brought their masters food and drink and a
feast at the castle followed the hunt.
Flint Oak’s European shoots, in the tradition of those reserved for the kings so long ago, begins with the hunting horns.
Flint Oak’s rich and diverse background provides a truly exciting pheasant shooting for both the novice and the experienced
gun. As the hunters’ horns sound across the landscape, prepare for the most exhilarating pheasant shoot of your life. True
to tradition, we provide food and drink halfway through the hunt, a welcome respite to the shooting. The hunters’ lunch
served at the lodge, rounds out the day. Start planning today for a truly exciting pheasant shooting in Flint Oak’s magnificent surroundings. Feel like a king; come to Flint Oak where you are royalty.
Flint Oak’s “Open European Shoots”, our “Grand Event”, is held virtually throughout Hunt Season (see schedule page 22).
The pageantry of this event, the mix of participants, the weather and a myriad of other factors, make each and every shoot
unique.
The Open European
Held on Saturday mornings, this is
the “granddaddy” of our Europeans. It
includes a huge, hearty breakfast, a
ride on the Flint Oak Hunt Wagon, a coffee break around a toasty campfire, an
abundant “Hunters’” lunch and an equal
share of the day’s harvest.
The European has 39 blinds that
surround the hill. Driven to flight, the
pheasants fly towards the shooters.
Flint Oak’s retrievers pick up the harvested pheasants even as you shoot.
As each brace completes, you move
to a new blind that offers new and different shooting challenges, then the fun
starts all over.
Shooting the European with a special friend or family member makes
memories to last a lifetime.
The Open European, scheduled
regularly throughout hunt season, is an
“open” shoot; you can book reservations
from one to seventy-eight shooters!
At the Open Europeans, we serve a
variety of buffet lunches to finish off your
fantastic European style driven shoot.
Flint Oak’s variety of Europeans accommodates any size group, large or small.
The Mini-European
The Mini, the first private European shoot introduced at Flint Oak, has proven
to be very exciting and even sportier than we first anticipated. A twelve blind shoot,
it accommodates up to twenty-four shooters.
The birds are on the shooters QUICK on the west side (blinds 7 through 12),
the “forest side”. The shooters need to help each other by yelling information to one
another. The birds darting through tree openings verify the importance of staying
alert at all times. Instinctive “snap shooting” ability is a real plus. Most of the bag
comes from pass shots behind the blinds.
Blinds 1 and 6 transition from the forest to the prairie side (blinds 2 through 5).
Circling and turning birds provide some long lead shots with the birds in full view
and really moving fast! The birds reach such speed that very few birds harvested
end up in front of the blind on the prairie side.
12
The Scottie /
Double Scottie
Ideal for six to eight shooters, the
Scottie lies toward the east and allows
smaller groups to enjoy European style
shooting.
-Or, the “Double Scottie” differs in
the fact that the shooters rotate around
the circle twice, giving more shooting
opportunity and a second chance at
mastering the nuances of each shooting position. A coffee break after the
completion of the first rotation enables
the shooters to cuss and discuss the
blinds and formulate new strategies
prior to the second round. The second
round’s harvest percentages are usually
much higher.
This shoot is ideal for those small
groups of friends or clients that you wish
to entertain on a more personal basis.
The Phoenix
The Mecca
The Phoenix was a mythical bird
that arose from the smoke and ashes of
its own destruction ! Thus, we thought
it was an appropriate name for this
driven shoot because those birds just
seem to keep rising and flying despite
smoking shotguns ! The Phoenix, located on the westerly portion of Flint
Oak, accommodates eighteen to thirtysix shooters. More trees and completely different terrain than any of our
other Europeans make for a unique
shooting experience.
Webster defines the Mecca as “a
center of activity sought as a goal by
people sharing a common interest”. We
at Flint Oak certainly hope that is true
with our Mecca. Nestled in the upper
end of a long brushy draw, sitting
among some very large oaks and blackjacks with cedars and oaks in the center, this shoot produces some extremely
challenging shots. It also sets astride a
creek forking into a bigger creek. The
area is a very pretty site.
As you move around this shoot from
timber to clearings, the variety of shooting opportunities will amaze you.
This shoot, unlike some Europeans,
is very versatile enabling groups of eight
to sixteen shooters to use the shoot.
With up to sixteen guns, extra birds will
be a blast.
True to tradition, we provide food and drink halfway through the hunt, a welcome respite to the shooting.
Advantages of the European Hunt
European shoots are a great way to introduce your friends or business clients to Flint Oak. They are designed for Private groups of all sizes. This type of shoot is ideal for those not able to Field Hunt. When you factor in the unpredictability of
Kansas weather, even the most experienced shooter will be challenged, while the novice will have an enjoyable experience
hunting with friends. The camaraderie and atmosphere of these shoots is a great tool for team building. With all this in mind,
why not schedule your European Shoot soon?
To increase the fun and add more shooting pleasure, extra birds may be purchased for each of these shoots except the
Open European.

By Landon Crow
Now that hunting season is finally
here, all of our dogs at Flint Oak are
getting really excited. We had a busy
off season at the kennel and purchased
some new dogs who we are hoping to
have in the field by Christmas. The
dogs acquired are still in the final training phase and the kennel staff wants to
make sure they are well conditioned
and fully trained before they get out on
the preserve.
The yearly summer conditioning, a
“roading” program, has gone really well
getting the new dogs trained and keeping our veteran dogs in shape. Let me
explain “roading”, it is when we place
each dog in a full body harness and attach them to long bars running laterally
off of a four-wheeler, allowing us to run
eight dogs at a time. We go for three
miles through the preserve working up
to a speed of ten miles an hour. The exercising is done in the early morning
while it is cool and it is designed to increase endurance. All of the dogs at
the kennel are in tip top shape thanks
to this program.
We hope every Member, on every
hunt this season, takes the time to
watch the pointing dogs work. We also
hope each dog reflects how much hard
work every kennel staff member has put
towards allowing each dog to perform
their best work on every hunt. The
guide on your hunt does a lot of work to
make your hunt enjoyable as do the
dogs. A few things to look for, during
your hunt while a dog is working, are:
dogs that run all out, hit the scent of
birds and do a 180 to point the birds, or
when a dog retrieves a harvested bird
that everyone believes there is no way
the dog could find it. These are some
of the little things during a field hunt that
make it enjoyable for both the hunters
and guide. We all love a dog that puts
on a great show.
As everyone has read recently, Flint
Oak is adding another hunting adventure, duck hunting. We at the kennel are
readying our labs to retrieve your ducks
out of the water. It will be a great treat
for hunters to watch the labs hit the
water and come back with a big ol’
green head in their mouth. All the labs
this summer have also worked on their
land retrieves and they are ready to retrieve all the pheasants harvested during Flint Oak’s great European Driven
Shoots. So, whether you are getting
into a duck blind or pulling up to the fire
pit, take a moment to scratch those retrievers’ ears to show your appreciation
for the birds they retrieve.
I hope, as does each Flint Oak staff
member, that everyone who comes
through our gates this hunting season
has an enjoyable time watching all the
great dog work. From the field to the
fire pit, and now to the blinds, we thank
you for hunting with us.

“A PICTURE IS WORTH
A THOUSAND WORDS”
One Question? How does one use
words to convey the memories made at
Flint Oak? The answer – There isn’t a
way !! A “Photo Memory” is the perfect way to preserve the great times had
at Flint Oak! At each Major European
and private European, a Flint Oak photographer will be at the “Coffee Break”
to take a group picture. These memories will be available in black leatherette
folios with the Flint Oak logo stamped in
gold on the cover upon your groups return to the lodge after your driven shoot.
If you are planning any other activities
and would like photographs, you need
only contact the office staff and
arrangements will be made to make it
happen. In our “Pursuit of Excellence”,
we try to never say “NO”!
By Nicky
Well another busy and successful
“Summer Season” has just come to a
close at Flint Oak! The summer began
with the addition of our new Accommodations Manager, Dede, as well as our
chefs, Vincent & Jeff – and that’s Jeff
“LOVE” not Jeff “OAKES” ! Many new
and exiting changes have occurred in
our restaurant services and you are
sure to be impressed, so make it a point
to come see us soon ! The Flint Oak
Spring Sporting Clays league had a
great turn out with nine teams competing! Thanks to all the shooters; we hope
to see you all here with us for Fall
League, which begins September 1.
Our Easter and Mother’s Day brunches
had an extra special touch from Dede
and were a “HUGE” hit.
Our “Weekend Get-A-Ways” proved
to be gaining in popularity with an average of 8 couples per weekend. This
package allows for you to bring that
special someone and enjoy a relaxing
weekend, whether it is shooting on our
world class Sporting Clay course, dining in our fine restaurant or just lounging
by the pool, there is something for
everyone!
Flint Oak was also a “HOT” destination for Corporate Retreats and Meetings throughout the summer. Kansas
Farm Bureau and Blue Cross/Blue
Shield of Kansas once again held their
annual retreats at Flint Oak. Kansas
Medical Society, Wesley Medical Cen16
ter and Kansas Association of Insurance Agents also held meetings. Additionally we had the opportunity of
hosting the Kansas State Fair Board
Members courtesy of Mary Alice Lair.
So if you are looking for a private and
secluded venue to hold your corporate
retreats or meetings, be sure to give us
a call.
The 2nd Annual Tindle Construction/TCI Fabrication Picnic took place
on June 18. The day began with a
“Scavenger Hunt” in which the teams
had to find various “nature” items. The
winning team was awarded their choice
of a Flint Oak Hat or Visor from the Pro
Shop. A lunch of our Famous Fried
Chicken Buffet was enjoyed by all and
followed by a fun filled afternoon of
shooting, fishing and swimming !!
Quilting Retreat venues were in high
demand this year. Our friends, the
“Needle in a Haystack” and the “Itchin
to Stitch” ladies both held their annual
quilting retreats at Flint Oak. Needle in
a Haystack held two weekend retreats
in the Clubhouse while the Itchin to
Stitch ladies raided the Walton Lodge!
The sewing machines were humming
and the material, lace and doodads
were flying!
All of us at Flint Oak would like to
send a BIG THANK YOU to all who
helped make this summer a SUCCESS
!! We hope to see you all again next
Season !!
Essential Nutrition
By Landon Crow
HOT! That’s the word that describes
the conditions at the kennel all summer,
but what most people don’t know is how
to attack the heat with nutrition. There
are many ways to help your dog beat
the heat. Here are some of the ways we
have found.
All year long we give a liquid vitamin
called Canine Redcell. It is an iron
based supplement that helps oxidize
and oxygenate the dogs’ blood allowing
the dogs to recover and helps with
breathing during the hot weather.
Another supplement we give the
dogs is a B12 shot every three months.
It helps stimulate the dogs’ appetites
during hot or cold weather. If a dog is
not eating then he won’t have the energy to work every day.
The final thing that we have done for
nutrition is provide an electrolyte supplement twice a week during our “roading” to help the dogs get the electrolytes
they lose during this time. During the
hot part of the summer, hydration is key,
but just water is not sufficient. Professional athletes take electrolyte supplements to help them and so that is the
same concept with the dogs. Ensuring
the dogs are well hydrated and have the
correct nutrition is essential when we
hunt the dogs a lot.
Most people feed a good brand of
dog food, but when you are working
dogs you need to supplement them correctly to get peak performance and
have a very healthy and happy animal.

29th Annual Hunter Safety
The Kansas Department of Wildlife,

classroom instruction, each graduate
receives a free box of shells to practice
what they have learned on Flint Oak’s
5-Star Sporting Clay Course. Many
parents stated that they were really impressed with the knowledge the students gained over the weekend. This is

That Perfect Moment
By Steve Cornett
Well I don’t know about you but I am
looking forward to another good year for
field hunts at Flint Oak. It has been a
dry summer but the food plots and the
grass on the preserve are doing very
good considering the circumstances.
No worries, there is plenty of cover, and
we are starting to cut walking paths to
keep up with the birds. The guides are
ready to start guiding again during the
upcoming season and are ready for the
crisp air, the birds flying, the dogs working and trekking through the fields in anticipation of that perfect moment when
the quail coveys scatter or the pheasant
takes flight. Nothing can beat a great
day at Flint Oak, so don’t waste any
time, call and book your hunts today.

New Benelli Shotguns
Benelli Super Vinci
Benelli’s revolutionary Vinci just got “supersized.” The much anticipated Super Vinci is designed to handle
3 1/2-inch Magnum loads. At the heart of the Super Vinci is the In-Line Inertia Driven® system, designed to
reliably chamber light 2 3/4-inch loads up through the most powerful 3 1/2-inch Magnums.
The Super Vinci features Practical Speed Performance™ (PSP)—a matter of how fast you can shoulder
the gun... acquire the target... shoot... and recover from recoil to prepare for the next shot.
Precise instruments developed by Benelli measure and create graphs that illustrate the total recoil of the
Super Vinci against its competitors. Other guns have peak recoil as much as fifteen percent greater than the
Super Vinci’s. But more significantly, the total felt-recoil of the competitors’ guns is as much as 22 percent
more. Combine the In-Line Inertia Driven® action with superior balance, light weight, reduced recoil and minimal muzzle climb and the shooter experiences the real timeline of performance speed where the Super Vinci
has no equal.
Benelli Vinci Cordoba
The Benelli Cordoba is a lightning-fast 12-gauge shotgun or 20-gauge shotgun, especially built for hunting. Inspired by the high volume of dove shooting found around Cordoba, Argentina, the designers of Benelli
shotguns engineered this one with all the advanced features of a serious sporting clays model. Incorporated
into the Cordoba is the 10-mm tapered sporting rib favored by competition shooters and porting to keep barrel climb to a minimum.
The ComforTech® stock cushions the blow when ammo isn’t measured in boxes, but by cases in an afternoon. The ComforTech® system also helps reduce barrel climb and puts the shooter back on target 69%
faster, so that the Cordoba just may be the fastest field gun ever built. A Crio® barrel and extended Crio® choke
tubes put more pellets on target. And the whole package is finished in matte black GripTight® coating or Realtree MAX-4®, so a reflected flash won’t give you away.
19
Benelli Vinci SuperSpor t
The Benelli SuperSport and Sport II are the ultimate choice for a fast 12-gauge shotgun or 20-gauge shotgun for sporting clays. These two Benelli shotguns are truly “speed guns.” The SuperSport’s ComforTech® recoil-dampening system allows the shooter to recover for the critical second shot up to 69% faster than with
other comparable shotguns! Couple the quick recovery speed with a ported barrel that keeps muzzle climb to
a minimum and it’s doubly fast. And the ComforTech® system’s special gel recoil pad and comb insert reduce
felt recoil by up to 48% compared to the competition.
For traditionalists, the stock of the Benelli Sport II features beautifully figured A-Grade walnut with a satin
luster finish, a right-hand contour gel recoil pad and cut checkering on both pistol grip and forend. When one
clay target often separates the winners from the losers, the SuperSport and Sport II, with their superior reliability, faster recovery time, lower recoil and denser shot patterns, are almost like having an unfair advantage.
Benelli has also just introduces the Ultra Light in a 28-gauge. It’s the newest member of the Benelli
Ultra Light family. Weighing in at only five pounds, this sleek beautiful shotgun happens to be the lightest autoloading shotgun in the world. It features a two-piece alloy receiver, carbon-fiber rib, and a WeatherCoat stock.
The same fast firing ultra-reliable Inertia Drive system that drives all Benelli semi-auto shotguns now accommodates the intriguing, sophisticated and efficient Ultra Light 28-gauge.
We look forward to having all of the newest shotguns that Benelli has to offer this season.
Here are a few answers to questions about the Vinci shotguns that we are often ask. We hope this will help
understand the new three piece design.
ComforTech® Plus
ComforTech® Plus is a complete recoil reduction system superior to any other recoil reduction product on
the market. Now available on the Vinci and Super Vinci, ComforTech® Plus optimizes the revolutionary ComforTech® system by reducing recoil and muzzle climb even more, without adding weight or moving parts.
In-Line Iner tia Driven® System
The Vinci’s In-Line Inertia Driven® action’s bolt and rotating bolt-head operates simply and efficiently on a single axis. This
innovative design means reduced movement during recoil, resulting in less muzzle climb for quicker follow-up shots. The Vinci
cycles anything from 2-3/4” Dove loads to 3” magnum turkey loads with consistent reliability.
Barrel/Receiver Module
The Barrel/Receiver Module houses the In-Line Inertia Driven® action completely within the Vinci’s 8.5-inch upper receiver.
The entire operating system, including the short bolt and return spring, functions on the same axis as the bore. The Vinci design provides the balance and swing of a fine over-and-under shotgun by keeping the weight at the center of the gun where
it is supposed to be—between the shooter’s hands.
Trigger Group/Forearm Module
The Trigger Group/Forearm Module contains the trigger assembly, safety, shell carrier and self-contained magazine tube
assembly. V-Grip™, a corrugated, non-slip surface, is molded into the forearm and pistol grip, offering a more secure hold
than traditional checkering. Integral sling swivel attachment points are molded directly into the buttstock and magazine cap.
QuadraFit™ Buttstock Module
The polymer QuadraFit™ Buttstock Module with ComforTech® Plus connects directly to the receiver using a simple turnand-lock, steel-to-steel attachment. This allows a quick change from field stock to a tactical pistol-grip stock or a turkey/slug
hunting SteadyGrip™ stock. Vinci’s QuadraFit™ Buttstock Module customizing system allows easy adjustment of drop, cast,
comb height and length-of-pull in a matter of minutes, with no tools required.

HUNT SEASON
RESERVATIONS AND CANCELLATIONS
All activities at Flint Oak require ADVANCE
RESERVATIONS. We limit the reservations
we accept to the personnel and facilities we
have available. Unlike the airlines, WE DO
NOT OVERBOOK! If we accept your reservation, we guarantee that we will have
everything required for your activities (just
like buying a ticket to a ball-game). We are
located “deep in the country” and do not
have passerby business. Our food orders
and personnel schedules are made weekly
and must be based on advance reservations.
23
Once your reservation is booked, we
incur the expense of whatever advance ordering and planning are required. So if you
fail to come, or cancel after the expense of
preparations has been incurred, what is fair?
Should all guests be penalized by increased
charges to cover these expenses? Most of
our guests believe it is fairer to charge a
cancellation fee to those who create the increased cost!
HUNT CANCELLATIONS
• Hunt reservations (whether Field Hunt or
European driven shoots) may be cancelled
at NO CHARGE forty-five (45) days or more
in advance.
• A $100 CANCELLATION FEE per gun will
be charged on all hunt reservations cancelled forty-four (44) to thirty-one (31) days
in advance.
• Hunt cancellations received thirty (30) days
or less from the hunt date WILL BE
CHARGED for the full amount of the hunt(s)
reserved.
• Room (meeting or lodging) reservations
made for NON-HUNT RELATED activities
require a first-day deposit to guarantee
reservations. Rooms cancelled by 6:00 pm
the day before arrival will be no charge.
Room Cancellations received the day of arrival will be charged the amount deposited.
MEAL DEADLINES
Please make reservations for meals by
the following deadlines to allow us to prepare properly. Reservations will be accepted
after deadline if we can do so with the staff
and food preparations available.

Because we do not have “drop in” business. Flint Oak can seldom fill a “short notice” cancellation. The only way we can
continue to provide the services you expect
at realistic prices is if all guests respect and
adhere to our reservation and cancellation
guidelines. We have tried to structure our requirements to be fair to ALL concerned, you,
other guests and Flint Oak.
