Peejay P st the Issue 8, RY 2015 - 2016 Newsletter for Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya, District 3300 27 August 2015 MEETING WITH MAJLIS BANDARAYA ‘PETALING JAYA MBPJ INTERACTOR LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM ILTS SMK SULTAN ABDUL SAMAD INTERACTOR INSTALLATION 1ST FELLOWSHIP DINNER MEETING CUM ATTENDANCE COMPETITION DINNER AT SRI NYONYA RESTAURANT MEETING WITH THE TUN HUSSEIN ONN NATIONAL EYE HOSPITAL (THONEH) facebook.com/rotaryclubpj www.rotarypj.com connect with us [email protected] 27August2015 Issue8,RY2015-2016 PRESIDENT’S DIARY FOR THE WEEK (19 August – 25 August 2015) DEAR FELLOW ROTARIANS, T he last Interactor school installation goes to SMK Sultan Abdul Samad with theme “Phoenix”. I must say it was a very organized event by the Interactors, the only set back is the sound system for the microphones. This is a common challenges faced by many of our Interactors as I observed this many times at our Interactor Schools with the exception of Catholic High School which I believed the school has upgraded their sound system as well as the stage lighting. To all Rotarians advisor to the respective schools, we can probably propose some funding raised by our Interactors to be channeled back to the school to improve their sound system. Meeting with The Tun Hussein Onn National Eye Hospital (THONEH) 19 August, 2015. It was 11am, PP Goh Seng Chuan and myself were at THONEH and VP Alice join us later in meeting up with the General Manager – Dr Norasidi bin Salim Al-Haj to present our proposal on the Rotary Day Medical Camp. The Council Member, Dato’ Ganesan Supayah and three management staff were present to greet us, we were too overwhelm with the representatives from THONEH. We shared with Dr Norasidi on brief history of RCPJ and the objectives of the Rotary Day. As our Rotary Day focuses on the service to the PJ communities, it actually meets the requirement of THONEH for their CSR initiative which is also to serve the community within their vicinity. It was a fruitful meeting for THONEH has initiated the discussion on the set-up for the Rotary Day with VP Alice. At the same time, on personal basis – Dr Norasidi is sponsoring a table at RM900 for lunch for our Golden Citizens – an unexpected double happiness! I must thank PP Dr Tarcisius Chin for recommending me to Rotary Club of PJ. I like the idea when Dr Chin told me that through Rotary, we can do a project which is beyond our personal means to serve the community and Rotary Day is one of the many projects we do in RCPJ for the community. Thank you to the Organising Chair of Rotary Day – VP Alice and PP Goh Seng Chuan for coming with me to the meeting. Meeting with Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) 20 August 2015. PE Siti has arranged for the meeting to meet with En Sharil of MBPJ to discuss on our next major event of RCPJ – the Dressed-up Walkaton scheduled on 20 March 2016. Preparation is on the way to ensure the venue is secured for the event. Organising Chair PE Siti has issued letter to the respective authority to seek the approval of the usage of the green field infront of Amcorp Mall. The sub-committee members, VP Alice and Irwin were at the meeting too. Irwin, our new rotary has so much of ideas and resources in event planning, it is really an asset to RCPJ to drive new ideas and new ways of running projects. I believe with PE Siti, VP Alice and Rtn Irwin, the RCPJ Walkaton is poise to set for another record making event for RCPJ. PE Siti will call for first committee meeting soon after the close of Rotary Day on 19 September 2015. SMK Sultan Abdul Samad Installation 20 August 2015. So glad to see both Rotarian Advisors - PP Balram and PP thePeejayPost www.rotarypj.com page 2 of 16 27August2015 Issue8,RY2015-2016 Swee Fatt at the Installation. As VP Alice shared on whatsapp chat, we are moved to see both our senior rotarians on stage to assist on the presentation for the Installation. This is really service above self for which despite their inconvenient due to age and health, they still make time and be present at the event to support of our Interactors – Thank you so much PP Balram and PP Swee Fatt. Congratulations to the Incoming President – Aaron Benjamin and his board. Int Aaron Benjamin must be all nervous for the event for his mother and God parents were present to support him. Our Interactors, who are in the age range of 14-16 has always surprised us with their ability to organize and make thing happened. Well done Interactors from SMK Sultan Abdul Samad ! Interactor Leadership Training Program (ILTS) 22 August 2015. We had another great success of ILTS training at Catholic High school. We have made slight changes to the ILTS program this year to include Past BOD of Interactors and Rotaractors to co-train our new Interactors BOD. I was at the President and Vice President training session with PP Dato Kevin Yong and we have Past President, who also a Chartered President for Sri Inai Beacon International, Aaron and Rotaractor Vickran, formal President from SAS to co-train the President group. We can see the active interaction of our Interactors with the co-trainers. They shared with the new Presidents on the Do and Don’t of President of which they cannot learn from the manual. On the training for Treasurer, Directors and Secretary, we have VP Alice, PP Kia Heong, Victor Lee, PP Chris, PE Siti and Rtn Pua Boon Yee to assist and chaired the respective training. At RCPJ, we try our level best to provide relevant and on-the-job training for our Interactors as we would like to see them progress with time and be a true leader of the new century. 1st Fellowship Dinner meeting cum Attendance Competition Win/Lose Dinner at Sri Nyonya Restaurant 25 August 2015. Our first fellowship dinner event at Sri Nyonya restaurant turns out to be a great event for all. So much laughter, chit-chat, good authentic Nyonya food, free flow of whisky and wines and catching up session with Anns and rotarians. Our guest speaker – Henzi Andalas, an actor, Extreme Mentalist, Escape Artist and Stunt Man shared with us some of his stunt at work as well as the demonstration of Extreme Mentalist. Such an amazing man ! He can remember 15 items that we just randomly said it to him and he can remember it all within the 15 mins. Anyway you test him, he can still list it to you any of the 15 items. I must learn from him this technique for I really have poor memory on names.. On the lighter side, we also take the opportunity to celebrate the birthday babies for the month of July and August. Guess what, we have collected kind donation of RM450 from all babies. This has not included the RM101 sponsored by PP Tara and RM5000 by PP Dato Kevin Yong at earlier lunch meeting. Thank you to all ! May you all be well and happy ! Last but not least, A big thank you to the Venue Chair – PP Capt Shashi for recommending such lovely place for dinner and fellowship. The owner of the restaurant Mr James Kuok is an exceptional host for he personally cooked a specialty dish – sambal petai prawns to all as courtesy from him to all guests of the house. So sweet of him ! Also a big thank to VP Alice and PP Chris to gather the number for attendance and not forgetting Melisa who just pop-by to drop of the 2 lovely cakes for our birthday celebrations. You all just wonderful people ! Next Tuesday Meeting on 8 September (Tuesday) Do take note there is NO MEETING on 1 September 2015 due to long Merdeka Weekend holiday. Till we meet again, take care and Happy Merdeka “Sehati, Sejiwa !” Sincerely, Rianne Chin Chin Wai Yee, Rianne President, Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya thePeejayPost www.rotarypj.com page 3 of 16 27August2015 Issue8,RY2015-2016 ROTARY INTERNATIONAL NEWS PAKISTAN’S PROGRESS: SNAPSHOTS FROM THE POLIO CAMPAIGN Nearly 90 percent of the world’s polio cases last year occurred in Pakistan.
