It’s important to make sure you have enough
power for even the toughest jobs. Sears offers gas
engines on its lawn mowers in a variety of gross
torques from 5.00 to 8.75*, so there is one to
meet every mowing need. A 5.00 gross torque
engine is suitable for smaller yards and finebladed grasses like Fescue. A 6.25 gross torque or
more powerful engine is best if you spend a lot of
time mowing or have coarse grass like Bermuda.

Your yard itself can help guide your selection process.
LAWN SIZE
Will you be mowing a postage-stamp lawn, or is
your yard more sizable? The first step in finding
the right mower is determining the size of your
lawn. This will help determine the right features
and amount of power you’ll need to easily keep
your yard trim.
For reference:
¼ acre is 10,890 sq. ft., ½ acre is 21,780 sq. ft.)
TYPE OF TERRAIN
Is your lawn flat? Hilly? Uneven? A lawn’s conditions
are just as important as its size when it comes to
choosing a mower. Mowers with small decks can
maneuver in tight spaces and around obstacles like
trees and flower beds. Mowers with larger decks
can make quick work of wide flat lawns without too
many obstacles. Mowing hills and uneven terrain
can be less tiring if you’re walking behind a
self-propelled mower.

What you choose to do with grass clippings can vary depending on when
you last mowed, how fast your grass grows or whether you want to
compost the clippings. Some mowers have the option of bagging,
mulching or discharging clippings as they cut. A single mower that offers

a front or rear-wheel drive system.
Self-propelled mowers are available in both front and rear-wheel
drive models. If your lawn is approximately ½ acre or larger, or has
uneven terrain, a self-propelled mower will save you effort and time.
REAR-Wheel DRIVE

at the rear of the deck ensures consistent traction. They do
