BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULAR MEETING 7:00 p.m.

DISTRICT GOALS
• To continue to provide a safe and secure environment for both students and staff that is conducive to teaching and
learning through the following: upgrade of entrance security, internal air quality remediation (HVAC), building cleaning and
maintenance upgrades, HIB referrals/reporting protocol, use of identification tags at all times by staff - uniforms by
custodial/maintenance staff, crisis plan revisions and updates, and protocol reviews with law enforcement officials.
• To continue to improve student achievement across the district through the alignment of curriculum with the CCSS
implementation of teacher and principal evaluation tools/protocols, creation of district-wide evaluation advisory committee
and data analysis of student assessments (SGPs and SGOs).
• To develop and implement a plan to enhance communications with all stakeholders through the use of: Board Bits,
Eblast, Honeywell system, updates/upgrades to district website including contact information for district personnel,
teacher webpage updates monthly, policy on phone call/email returns; collaboration and collegial relationship with
municipal officials, availability of online policy manual, and the rebuilding of trust through frequent, accurate and open
communications.

among stakeholders, respectful of all viewpoints in supporting the district and meeting the educational needs of all
children.
• To provide support to the superintendent and administrative team in their role and providing the resources necessary
to implement the district goals.
I. CALL TO ORDER
TIME:
A. The New Jersey Open Public Meetings Law was enacted to ensure the right of the public to
have advance notice of and to attend the meeting of the public bodies at which any
business affecting their interests is discussed and acted upon. In accordance with the
provisions of the Act, the Board Secretary has caused notice of this meeting to be
published by having the date, time and place thereof posted on the bulletin board located in
the hallway outside of the administrative offices, and notice was provided to the Courier
News, the Home News Tribune, and the Middlesex Borough Clerk.

*Earlier this evening each school’s Education Services Professional of the Year was honored.
Each was presented with a commemorative plaque, and light refreshments were served. The

Teacher Appreciation Activities took place last week as well as the recognition of School Nurses
Day.
The Elks Annual Youth Awards Night will be on May 21 st at 7 PM during which the Students of
the Month and the winners of the Americanism Essay Contest will be honored.
NJ ASK is in full swing. The 7th and 8th graders have completed the testing and the 4-6th
graders are taking the test now. We wish them all the best for a positive outcome!

Education’s Special Revenue Fund and will be used for program supplies and salaries.

2. Salary Notifications – Middlesex Education Association Tenured Certificated
Staff and Secretaries for 2014 – 2015
That the tenured staff covered by the Middlesex Education Association Collective
Bargaining Agreement, listed on Exhibit A (Tenured Certificated Staff) and Exhibit B
(Tenured Secretaries) be notified that their salary, level, and step for the 2014 – 2015
school year will be the same as the 2013 – 2014 agreement until completion of a
successor agreement between the Middlesex Education Association and the Middlesex
Board of Education.
3. Reappointment of the Middlesex Education Association Non-Tenured
Certificated Staff and Secretaries Receiving Tenure for 2014 – 2015
That the non-tenured staff covered by the Middlesex Education Association Collective
Bargaining Agreement, listed on Exhibit C (Certificated Staff), and Exhibit D
(Secretaries) to be reappointed for the 2014 – 2015 school year, with employment
contracts issued at the same salary, level, and step as the 2013 – 2014 agreement until
completion of a successor agreement between the Middlesex Education Association and
the Middlesex Board of Education, and barring any unforeseen events, it appears that
these staff members will earn tenure in accordance with the New Jersey School Laws.
4. Reappointment of the Middlesex Education Association Non-Tenured Staff and
Secretaries for 2014 – 2015
That the non-tenured staff covered by the Middlesex Education Association Collective
Bargaining Agreement listed on Exhibit E, (non-tenured Certificated Staff) and
Exhibit F, (Non-tenured Secretaries), be reappointed for the 2014 – 2015 school year,
with employment contracts issued at the same salary, level, and step as the 2013 – 2014
agreement until completion of a successor agreement between the Middlesex Education
Association and the Middlesex Board of Education.
5. Appointment of the Non-Tenurable Custodians, Maintenance, Drivers and
Teacher Assistants for 2014 – 2015
That the staff covered by the Middlesex Education Association Collective Bargaining
Agreement listed on Exhibit G, (Maintenance Staff, Custodial Staff) and Exhibit H,
(Drivers and Teacher Assistants) be approved for the appointment for the 2014 – 2015
school year with employment contracts issued to those staff members at the same

the 2014 – 2015 school year and be notified that their salary will be the same as the
2013 – 2014 salary.
10. Approve the Employment Contract of Business Administrator/Board Secretary
Approve the employment contract of Michele Previte, Business Administrator/Board
Secretary for July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015.
11. Approve the Memorandum of Understanding between the Middlesex Board of
Education and the Middlesex Education Association to memorialize one (1) HS Media
Specialist Stipend in the amount of $2500/year and one (1) Athletic Trainer Stipend in the
