Afa Clare Murray
After celebrating her 100th
birthday on December 3, 2013,
Afa Clare Murray, formerly
of Tulsa, passed away December 17, 2013 in Indianapolis, IN.
Afa was preceded in death by
her husband Leo C. Murray. Afa
Clare is survived by her children,
Jo Ann Emch, Clarita L. Burton
(William R.), and Carolyn K. Herald. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren,
and one great-great-grandchild.
Afa Clare was a member
of Boston Avenue Methodist
Church and an active member
for more than 50 years in P.E.O.
Service for Afa Clare will be
held December 21, 2013 in the
Chapel at Memorial Park Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., with calling one
hour prior to the service. In lieu
of lowers, contributions should
be made to the charity of your
choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Stanley Funeral Home.

Carl Edgar Tarver, age 73 of
Tulsa, Oklahoma passed from
this life on Saturday, December
14, 2013 in Tulsa. He was born
on December 4, 1940 in Brenham, Texas to L.C. and Hettie
E. Tarver. Carl graduated from
Pickard High School in Brenham, Texas and attended college
at Prairie View A&M College and
Northeastern State University
in Tahlequah, Oklahoma before
earning his Masters in Education. He married Bernice (Parish) Tarver on
December 25, 1964 in Drummond, Texas.
Carl worked for many years in education
and was a school principal and counselor
for Tulsa Public Schools before retiring.
Carl was an active member at Gilcrease
Hills Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and other extended family members.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years,
Bernice Tarver; son, Christopher J. Tarver;
grandson Jemaure J. Tarver all of Tulsa; 2
sisters, Joydell Searcy of Houston, Texas

John W. "Jack" Young

John W. “Jack” Young was born
in Tulsa, OK on March 29, 1923 to
Earl and Ruth (Hagaman) Young.
Jack passed away on Friday, December 6, 2013 in Tulsa at the age
of 90. He graduated from Tulsa
Central High School in 1940. After
high school Jack served his country in the Army from 1942 to 1946.
He married Grace Brannon on
June 15, 1945 at Wheeling Avenue
Christian Church in Tulsa, OK.
Mr. Young attended the University of Tulsa. The Youngs were long time
residents of Bartlesville where Jack was an
accountant at Phillips Petroleum Company.
He was a long time member of First Christian Church in Bartlesville and most recently Bethany Christian Church in Tulsa.
Jack was preceded in death by a son, Timothy John Young; his brother, Robert (Bob)
Young and his parents. He is survived by his
wife of 68 years, Grace; his three daughters
and sons-in law; Terri and Jim Warwick of
St. Charles, MO; Peggy and Dennis Peterson
of Bixby, OK and Ann and Randy Wilson of
Edmond, OK; grandchildren; Jonathan and
Tara Warwick of Edmond, OK; Christopher

Jack Lee Woods went to join his family
members in the heavenly choir on December 17, 2013. He was born on December 24,
1919 to Robert Earl and Hazel Henry Woods
at Copan, Oklahoma. In 1939, he married
Irene Pickering, and they celebrated 69
years together before her passing in 2009.
Jack was employed as an electrical engineer
for 43 years by Public Service Co. of Oklahoma, except for his service during World
War II as a navigator in the Army Air Corps.

Iva “Joan” Venable, 77, of Weatherford, TX
died Monday December 16, 2013 in Weatherford, TX after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Funeral services will be Friday, December
20, 2013, 2:00 pm at Brumley-Mills Funeral
Home, McAlester, OK. The family will be
available at 1:00 pm for visitation. Burial will
be at Bache-Red Oak Cemetery, Bache, OK.
Joan was born to Daniel and Lottie (Karnes)
Houston on January 24, 1936 in Idabel OK.
She graduated from Idabel Gray High School
in 1954. She married the love of her life and
best friend, Jim Venable on April 24, 1954.
They shared 59 precious years together.
Her family was her life. She especially
loved spending time with her 4 grandchildren who afectionately called her “MeMa”.
Joan spent most of her professional career working in diferent aspects of real
estate. She spent time as a title insurance
underwriter, a commercial loan closer
and was Vice-President and Manager of
Tulsa Abstract Company before retiring.
