He loved teaching kids about the printing
profession, Sculley said, and loved to get others to love it, too.
“Dad began his printing career as a Linotype operator for the newspapers and learned
the new computer technology of type-setting
mid-career. He enjoyed sharing that knowledge with young people and inspired many
to become printers,” she said. “He was also a
father figure to many of his students who did
not have strong family backgrounds.”
Sculley said her father worked hard to support his family, always working two jobs. He
enjoyed being involved in politics, and had
served on the school board and as a Democratic
Precinct committeeman.
“What he loved most was being with family and outdoor activities. Playing basketball
on the driveway, volleyball in the back yard, or
swimming in the family pool or in Lake Michigan,” she said.
