Alice Wede
Amy Hardy
Alice May Wede, 87, Missouri Valley, passed away May
4, at the Longview Care Center, Missouri Valley.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, at
the Christian Church, Missouri Valley, with Pastor
Nathan Slaughter officiating. Organist was De Loehr.
Vocalists were, Jena Mickey and Bill Cunard who sang,
“O’ Danny Boy,” and “How Great Thou Art.” Honorary
bearers were, Kenneth Brockman Jr., Doug Winchester,
Bradley Turner, Brian Winchester. Casket bearers were,
Matt Meade, Aaron Smith, Nick Meade, Adam Smith,
Brett Winchester, Rob Winchester. Final resting place was
Branson Cemetery, Loveland.
Alice was born Dec. 5, 1925, to George L. and Edna
(Wohlers) McElderry in Council Bluffs. Alice married L.
LaVerne Smith, Nov. 1, 1942. He passed away May 25,
1981. Alice was a member of the Church of Christ,
Eastern Star and taught Sunday school for many years.
She worked at the County Extension Office for several
years and also worked at the hospital and the high school
in housekeeping. Alice enjoyed sewing, crocheting and
was a 4-H leader. Alice later married Ernest Wede Sept. 1,
1988. He passed away in 1998.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; son, Danny Smith; sister, Jean Gravitt; brother,
George “Sonny” McElderry; grandson, Rusty L. Smith;
granddaughter, Jeana Webster.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda Winchester,
Missouri Valley, Karen Brockman and husband Kenny,
Council Bluffs, Julie Meade and husband Duane, Lisa
Mickey and husband Kim, both of Missouri Valley; son,
Mike Smith and wife Sandy, Missouri Valley; 15 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; sisters, Jan and
Leonard Johnson; Eileen Smith; Nancy Glover, all of
Missouri Valley; Mary Ann Rothney, Detroit Lakes, Minn.;
brother, Dennis and Barb McElderry, Council Bluffs;
daughter-in-law, Joann Smith, Honey Creek.
Memorials may be directed to the Christian Church,
Missouri Valley.

Amy Jo Hardy, 38, Missouri
Valley, passed away May 2, at
Community Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services were held at
11 a.m., May 9, at the Hennessey
Funeral Home, Missouri Valley,
with Pastor Kim Crummer officiating. Musical selections were, “I
Hope You Dance,” and “Keeper of
the Stars.”
Amy was born Oct. 28, 1974, to
Elton Hardy and Shirley (Vaughn) Booher in Omaha, Neb.
She graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1993.
Amy enjoyed being with her children, family and friends.
She always had a good sense of humor and was very loving and caring.
Amy was preceded in death by her parents, Elton Hardy
and Shirley Booher.
Survivors include her children, Chelsie Hardy, Dakota
Grandmont, and Gabe Hardy, all Missouri Valley; sisters,
Cindy Galus, Omaha, Neb., Kelly Knight, Underwood;
Alicia Miller, Missouri Valley; brother, Joey Hardy,
Woodbine; special friend, Scott Born, Missouri Valley.

the May 8 graduation section.
Joey Watley
Joey W. Hatley, 58, Logan, passed away Dec. 17, 2012,
at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May
18, at the Logan Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ron Riley
officiating. The music selection will be, “Tears in Heaven.
Joey was born Aug. 29, 1954, in Cherokee to Billy Joe
and Bettina (Perkins) Hatley. He graduated from the
Anthon-Oto High School, and was married to Charlene
Creek on June 1, 1973, at Correctionville. He worked at
IBP in Sioux City then attended college and earned his
degree in programming and came to work for Perfection
Learning right after college in 1983. Joey enjoyed fishing
hunting, target shooting and riding motorcycles.
Joey was preceded in death by his father Billy Joe;
brother, Kevin Perkins; nephew, Hunter Chunn; and
father-in-law, Charles Creek.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene, Logan; children,
Charlie Hatley and Laralyn McWilliams of Marina Del
Ray, Calif.; mother, Bettina Perkins, Anton; sister, Nora
Chunn and husband Glenn, Cypress, Texas; brother,
Blake Perkins and wife Kelli, Anthon; mother-in-law,
Bonnie Creek, Ruthven; sisters-in-law, Robbie Coleman;
Shelly Brauninger, both of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Jan
Scott of Ruthven.
