Coach B i l l Falasca's flyers roared into post season to capture the first state high school hockey crown for the north shore since the heydey of Lynn Engl ish back in '56-'57. Five Winthrop skaters finished among the top ten scorers in the loop. Spectacular Bob McDonald topped all scorers with 34-51--85 including six hat-tricks and a new assist record of four in one period against Salem when the Vikes tallied seven times in the third period during their first meeting. Jack Burke, Joe McDonald, Danny Brugin and Steve Goddard all finished midst the top seven individual scorers. Only Swampscott's scoring tandem Dan Santanello and Stan Glowacz broke the V i k i n g domination. • Raymond J. Bufalino • William H. Bufalino • E. David Crowley Brother Joe McDonald is just one of a dozen Winthrop holdovers who will be seeking a third successive title. Winthrop veteran talent seems equal that of other teams bringing strong contingents hack for the new season. Beverly will be a force this year with excellent skaters Tim Kimball , Jay Rice, Matt Phelan and Dick Gilligan returning. Only goal seems a problem for the Panthers,- but then, Coach Jerry Ryan is an old goaler himself and should be capable of picking out an adequate candidate. English has 15 players back including goaler Keith Twomey who had some game experience last season. Coach Ben Foote, now the patriarch of the Conference, has kids who scored well i.n early Bantam and Youth competition; perhaps they w i l l recover that form. That would be trouble for the rest of the league. - more - nils INSURANCE AOENCY.NC Try us ... we know what we're doinpl 497 Humphrey Street 89 PLEASANT STREET MARBLEHEAD 631-1046 Swampscott • 599-2200 PRECISE WELDING & FABRICATING COMPANY SNOW PLOWING CARS BOUGHT ft SOLD 595-8982 TIRES ft BATTERIES GENERAL AUTO REPAIRS 218 PARADISE RD.
