Things You Need To Know
Within this publication, the service providers and resources that are provided by or contracted with the
Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) are indicated by a
double asterisk (**). The service providers and resources that are monitored and certified by ODMHSAS
are indicated by a single asterisk (*). Please note that while a provider may have one or more services
certified by or contracted with ODMHSAS, they may provide other services that are not certified by nor
contracted with ODMHSAS.
Service providers and resources listed in this publication are neither endorsed nor recommended by
ODMHSAS and are merely provided for informational purposes.
Accessing Services
While it may seem simple, contacting your insurance company first to discover which providers are in
network in your area is generally the quickest route to a good referral. Many insurance companies have
toll-free numbers and/or websites to help narrow your search.
Also, the information provided in this publication was accurate as of October 1, 2009. However, as
children’s services are in constant state of change, checking with the providers for up-to-date information is
always the best idea.

Crisis Services
Children’s Crisis Centers
These centers assist young people who are in need of crisis intervention and stabilization for trauma,
emotional, behavioral or substance abuse issues. The services are provided in a secure residential setting
for up to five (5) days, if needed. Program components include individual, group and family therapy, along
with medication management if deemed medically necessary. Admission criteria are set by the Oklahoma
Health Care Authority (OHCA) and applicable state law (Title 43A).
Both Children’s Crisis Centers work with no insurance and Medicaid clients and are in network with some
private insurance companies.
While the units are located in specific towns, they serve children from across the state.

Children’s Mobile Crisis Teams
Mobile Crisis Response (MCR) Teams are a 24-hour, 7 day-per-week service that provides assistance for
mental health and substance abuse crisis through telephone or face-to-face assessments. Teams provide
outreach, assessments, evaluation, crisis intervention and stabilization, referral, crisis planning, 24-48 hour
follow-up appointments, short term therapy and/or monitoring for individuals experiencing a mental health
or substance abuse emergency. MCR teams respond to crises in the community, at schools, hospitals,
shelters, places of employment and other community settings to stabilize the situation in the youth’s natural
environment. MCR services are designed to de-escalate the crisis situation; prevent possible inpatient
hospitalization, detention, homelessness; and to restore youth to a pre-crisis level of stabilization. Services
are tailored to youth and their families and focus on family strengths, needs and preferences. While all
MCR teams have the same goals and objectives, each community has their own specifications to best
meet the needs of the consumers in their community.
All of the following mobile crisis units are contracted with ODMHSAS (**) and services are provided
regardless of the youth’s ability to pay.

Outpatient Services
Community Mental Health Centers (CMHC)
Located throughout the state are publicly-supported Community Mental Health Centers. Most have satellite
offices or other specialized programs within their service areas. These centers provide emergency intervention,
assessment, counseling, psycho-social rehabilitation, case management and community support services
designed to assist adult mental health clients in living as independently as possible and to provide therapeutic
services for children who are demonstrating symptoms of emotional disturbances.

Substance Abuse Treatment
Juvenile Drug Courts
Juvenile Drug Court is a court-supervised, comprehensive drug-alcohol treatment program for youth
involved in the justice system, when the underlying crime or the cause of the underlying crime involves
alcohol or substance abuse. The goal of the program is to help youth in their process of recovery. The
focus of the Drug Court is on replacing addictive behaviors with a clean and sober lifestyle. The court will
decide whether or not there should be a referral to the Juvenile Drug Court program. There may be fees
that the juvenile or their family is responsible for. Please contact the Coordinator for more information.
The following are Juvenile Drug Courts contracted with ODMHSAS (**). There are other Juvenile Drug
Courts available that are not contracted with ODMHSAS.
