Koch — Largest in Hospital’s History — to Fund Outpatient Facility on
Manhattan’s East Side
Hospital Kicks Off $2 Billion Capital Campaign
NEW YORK (April 2, 2013)—NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital today announced a $100
million gift from David H. Koch, which will support the construction of its new ambulatory care
center at the hospital’s Upper East Side location on York Avenue between 68th and 69th Streets.
Hospital trustee and longtime supporter David H. Koch has made the lead gift of $100 million to
support the new center, which will be called the David H. Koch Center. The transformative gift
is the largest philanthropic donation in the hospital’s history and the first lead gift in a $2 billion
capital campaign. The campaign, set to be completed in 2019, will enhance the services and
infrastructure of all five sites of the hospital: NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical
Center, NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, NewYorkPresbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, NewYork-Presbyterian/The Allen Hospital
and NewYork-Presbyterian/Westchester Division. The hospital has already raised $1.2 billion
during a quiet phase of the campaign.
The David H. Koch Center is designed to provide patients with the best personalized and
integrated outpatient care, from diagnosis to treatment to aftercare, in a single, patient-friendly
and technologically sophisticated environment. The 450,000-square-foot facility will open in
2018. The center will house a range of services, including multidisciplinary care for digestive
diseases, cancer and other conditions, as well as preadmission testing for all hospital patients,
outpatient surgery, interventional radiology, diagnostic imaging and a wellness center. An
important feature of the center will be its ability to accommodate new technology as patient care
treatment evolves in the future.

David H. Koch has been a member of the Board of Trustees of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital
since 1988. He currently chairs the board’s development committee and sits on its real estate
committee. He has also provided leadership and expertise to the board’s investment, legal affairs,
finance and human resources committees.

David H. Koch is an executive vice president and a board member of Koch Industries, Inc. and
also serves as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Koch Chemical Technology
Group, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Koch Industries.
A long-time philanthropist and cancer survivor, Mr. Koch has given generously to a variety of
cultural and medical organizations and programs. In his lifetime, he and the David H. Koch
Charitable Foundation have pledged or contributed nearly $1 billion to cancer research, medical
centers, educational institutions, arts and cultural institutions, and to assist public policy
organizations.
In 2005, Mr. Koch received a presidential appointment to the National Cancer Advisory Board of
the National Cancer Institute, serving until March 2010 when his term expired. Mr. Koch has
been recognized by The New York Academy of Medicine for his support of biomedical research,
healthcare and education (2004). His corporate leadership has been honored by the Cold Spring
Harbor Laboratory’s Double Helix Award (2007), Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s
Excellence in Corporate Leadership Award (2005) and the prestigious Corporate Citizenship
Award from the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (2004). Other recognition
includes the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Bronze Beaver Award (2008) and Hospital
for Special Surgery’s Philanthropy Award (2009).
Mr. Koch was born in Wichita, Kan., and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemical
engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He and his wife, Julia, have three
children.
