Bring your new and exciting ideas into the Parks and Recreation Department and we will work with you to develop a successful program. 2 SPECIAL EVENTS DRIVE—IN MOVIE SERIES The Parks and Recreation Department, along with local sponsors, will be showing 3 different family-oriented movies at Squantz Pond this summer. Admission is free. Bring your family and friends, along with blankets and chairs if you don’t want to sit in your car. The movie will start at dusk with an arrival time of 6:30 p.m. There will be food and drink concession stands along with family entertainment prior to the start of the movie. * In case of inclement weather, please call Parks & Rec. at 203-312-5633 for further details. Contact Parks and Recreation at 203-312-5633 for more information. 3 SUMMER DAY CAMP Children from grades K-8th (based on the grade your child will be entering in Fall 2013) are guaranteed to have a great time at the New Fairfield Parks and Recreation Summer Day Camp. The 2013 N.F.P.R. Day Camp will tentatively run for 5 weeks: July 1 through Aug. 2nd. Our day camp hours will be from 8:30 a.m.—3:30 p.m. For a nominal fee, we will be offering extended child care from 7:30 a.m.—8:30 a.m. and/or 3:30 p.m.—5:00 p.m. Weekly field trips are included in the camp fee. DAY CAMP SWIM LESSONS— We are offering swim lessons at the high school for day camp participants only, children must be entering 2nd grade to attend: 4 Lessons 45 minutes in length for $25.00 will be offered weekly. Child must be registered prior to start of lessons. Level II: Primary Skills—Expand on fundamental aquatic locomotion & safety skills Level III: Stroke Readiness—Increase swimming skill competency Level IV and V : Stroke Development and Refinement—Develop confidence and competency in strokes—crawl, back, breast and side stroke 4 WATERFRONT BEACH PASSES—The Town Park will open for weekends only starting Memorial Day weekend, May 25th from 11:00 a.m.—6:30 p.m. Starting June 27th the beach will be open weekdays from 11:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult. A family, for our purposes, is any two adults who live at the same address year round and the children who also reside at that address. A separate pass for additional adults living at the same address may be purchased for an additional $20.00. Purchase your pass before June 28th and receive a $10.00 discount for a family pass and a $5.00 discount for an individual pass. GOLDEN AGE PASS— Golden Age passes are available in the Parks & Rec. office for all New Fairfield residents aged 65 and over. This pass entitles the bearer to free use of the New Fairfield Town Beach. Proof of age and residency is required. The pass is free of charge. BLUE RAIDERS SWIM TEAM— If you are between the ages of 5 and 16 and a resident of New Fairfield, you are invited to join the Blue Raiders Swim Team. We are happy to have Jill Cook, coach of the WestConn Swim Team , returning this year. We look forward to another exciting season. Swimmers must be able to swim one lap (25 yards) without stopping and have a recognizable crawl stroke and backstroke. All swimmers in this age division will be evaluated on the first day. 9 and 10 year olds—Must be able to swim 2 laps (50 yards) without stopping; and have a decent crawl stroke and backstroke. 11 years and older—Must be able to swim 4 laps (100 yards) without stopping; should be able to perform the crawl stroke and backstroke; have a working knowledge of the breast and butterfly strokes. 5 N EW F AIRFIELD P ARKS & R ECREATION PROGRAMS SWIM LESSONS at the TOWN PARK These Red Cross swim lessons are 30 minutes in length for Level 1 and 45 minutes in length for Levels II through V. Lessons are held Monday through Thursday with Friday as a makeup day for weather cancellations. Lessons will be postponed for heavy rain, thunder, or lightning. Participants must have a beach pass in order to attend lessons. Parents do not get in the water with the children. Call us with a date and you are all set! Party package includes 2 1/2 hours use of the beach and party room. Paper goods and decorations are not included. For up to 16 guests - use of the party room and the beach for 2 1/2 hours—$65.00 KAYAK RENTALS Single Seats $10.00 per hour Tandem double seat $15.00 per hour Participants are required to be 21 years or older to rent, and provide a valid drivers license. All participants are required to wear a life vest at all times and will be asked to sign a waiver. Rentals will be available weekends only starting May 25th from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. through the town park until June 27th . Starting June 27th walk-up rental will be available Sunday through Saturday at the town park from 11:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m. The last rental is due back no later than 6:00 p.m. PADDLEBOARD CLASS Have you ever walked on water? Now is your chance! Come explore the newest sport around with instruction by our Paddleboard Fitness Certified instructor Kristin Hart. Paddleboarding is an excellent way to enjoy the scenery surrounding Candlewood Lake. Paddlers will be guided through Candlewood waters where they will learn how to balance on paddleboards, how to paddle in a straight line and how to turn. Paddleboarding is an excellent full body work out. Board, paddle and lifejacket provided, no other equipment needed. Must be 18 yrs. and older. Classes held at the Town park. Sess. 1 - Mon. There will be games, songs, arts and crafts, playground time, etc. There will even be a trip to New Fairfield Town Beach. Children should bring a snack and water every day. On beach day, children should bring a bathing suit, towel and sunscreen. Do you have one or more years experience playing in your school music program? Do you play a traditional band instrument like flute, clarinet, trumpet, saxophone, French horn, trombone, baritone, or concert percussion? Would you like to play some fun music with friends and keep your skills up over the summer? We will rehearse once a week and prepare songs for a brief concert. The band camp will be taught by Mr. Akter, who is the band director at NFMS. The music will be geared to middle school students who have had at least one year of previous instruction. Students will perform in multiple musical numbers and /or short scenes from plays. They will have a choice of 2 or more, smaller group scenes as well as 2 or more whole group acts to learn over the course of the camp. The selections will span musical, dramatic and comic theater, as well as contemporary and Broadway music. All will be performed in a collective show on the last day of the camp. The instructors will be Susan Schenck, Alicia Cadmus and Marcus Schenck. Children should bring a snack, water bottle and lunch. Jeff Alviti and Tom Peterson present an exciting and fun filled week of gymnastics. Each segment will include exciting skills such as tumbling, vaulting, balance beam, and uneven and even bar apparatus. Jeff has previous coaching experience with the New Canaan High School varsity gymnastics team and Tom has numerous successful years instructing gymnastics in both the camp environment and the classroom setting. Boys and girls are invited to join! Jeff and Tom tailor each class to both beginners and intermediate level gymnasts. As a culminating event, the children will perform a routine that they have prepared on Friday of each session. Have fun learning the basics of a variety of Track and Field events with former Rebel Track Coach Mike Giacona and his high school assistants. Learn some new skills, make some new friends and have a blast! Registrations may be canceled up to seven days prior to a program’s starting date by written request only. All refunds are subject to a $10.00 minimum or 25% administrative fee, whichever is greater. Refund Policy: It is requested that careful consideration be given prior to registering for any program! No refunds will be given once a program has begun except for illness documented by a physician. For medical emergencies, refunds will be prorated for sessions attended. Absolutely no refunds will be given for any used portion of a program or after completion of a program. Refunds will be given if a recreation program is canceled by the Parks and Recreation Department due to a lack of registration. There are no refunds for any trip unless the trip is canceled by the Parks and Recreation Department. Please bring your concern to the Parks and Recreation Commission monthly meeting.
