In 1830 Sarah, Solomon Wife is listed as between 40-50 making her birth between 17801790. This narrows it down to 1780-1784 because in the 1800 census she is between 1626 making her birth between 1774-1784. The Sarah living with Alfred in 1850 is 67 and the Sarah living with William is 73. The Sarah living with Alfred would have been born around 1783. This matches and Alfred age matches with Solomon and Sarah’s children’s ages. John S. Oakley- Solomon and Rachel Born about 1770 died 23 April 1823. This may mean that he had not been born in the American Colonies but it could also mean that he was of English descent whereas his wife was Dutch though it doesn’t say that she was. Even though these records were recorded in the Lutheran Church in NYC the events occurred in Dutchess or Ulster county. Information from Herbert F. Seversmith Notebooks. Herbert Seversmith's Manuscript GS 929.273 Seversmith notes that Jonathan is the supposed son of Miles and Mercy. Constable of Beekman 1728. He lists Solomon b. 1734/7 d. May 12, 1812 as his son and a Jonathan, a Rev. Soldier, Dutchess Co. as a son. He only lists Richard, Janetje, and Simon as the other children. I am sure that Solomon is not his son. Solomon children and grandchildren all reuse the Oakley names from the Westchester and Long Island branch of the family such as Wilmot which was the maiden name of Miles Oakley’s wife Mary Wilmot.
