teachers that volunteered their time to organize and
coordinate this event. I would also like to recognize some of
our community sponsors; Winn Dixie, Sam’s Club, Chick-Fil-A,
Florida Farm Bureau, Flo Max, and many more.
The fun continued with the 33rd Annual Plumb Carnival held
on October 16 and 17. The funds raised from this event are
used to support the school in many ways; teachers’ classrooms,
school improvements, and much more.

The Carnival success is not possible without the support from
our community, sponsors, administration, teachers, and Plumb

PIE DAY FOR PLUMB STAFF ON NOVEMBER. 10
Parents, you really provided a wonderful cheese and cracker day in Sept. that the
staff enjoyed tremendously. Thank you. We gave small candy treats for mailboxes in
October. Now in November we would like to have a Pie Day on Tuesday, November
10. Please bring in a store bought or homemade pie to the office on that day to
provide some sweet enjoyment for our hard working staff. Also, if anyone is able to
help set up or clean up on that day, please contact Ann Cunnane at

ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS
Once again, thank you for participating in our Entertainment Book Fundraiser! We
managed to raise $8,000 profit for our school and our children. Plumb Elementary is
such a great school because of the wonderful students, parents, teachers, staff, and
volunteers! Thank you all for your support and please know that your efforts are truly
appreciated! The prizes have been ordered, and will be delivered to the children as
soon as they arrive. There are still a handful of Pinellas books for sale in the office if
somebody wants one. If you bought/buy a book, remember to use the card attached
to the front of the book to check online for additional coupons. You are able to print a
lot more coupons and you can reprint the online coupons each month!

October was a very busy month for all of our volunteers. Field trips have started, classrooms have
helping hands, School voting occurred, Plumb Carnival was a success and more!! Thank you for all of
your help. Please make sure you are logging all of your volunteer hours in the volunteer
computer. If you have any questions Eve Julian (667-2523) and Nicole McCarthy (461-2045) are
your Volunteer Coordinators.
We have 271 registered volunteers at this time! At this time 84 volunteers have logged 2784
hours. Thank you for logging your hours. There is still time to log your hours for this semester.
Wednesday, December 2nd is the deadline for first semester volunteer hours.
Great American Teach-In – November 18th. Please volunteer your
time to share your special interest, career or hobby. You can share
with one class or many. Sign

Friday November 6th, the Clearwater Plumb and Oak Grove All Pro Dads Chapter
heads to Hillsborough River State Park for our annual camp out. Fires,
marshmallows, outdoor plumbing, a beautiful river, and maybe a gator or two—what
more could we want? If you are not already signed up and are interested, please go

We are looking for parents and community members to share their job, teach a craft, read a book, tell about a hobby or a wonderful
trip…most anything that would interest students and help to share the real world with them. Bringing things to look at, touch or
do is always successful!!
Come for 30 minutes or spend the day!
Come by yourself or pair with a friend or co-worker.
Share with your child’s class or lots of others!

Starting a Walking
School Bus
Simple Steps to Starting a Walking School Bus in your neighborhood!

Start Simple! Remember that the program can always grow.

Invite families who live nearby to join a Walking School Bus.

Pick a route in a single neighborhood and begin with a small group.

Decide how often the group will walk together.
Have fun and celebrate! Have children make bright signs to carry while they
walk. It’s like a carpool—without the car—with the added benefits of exercise
and visits with friends and neighbors. Some simple steps:
Walking School Bus Plan should cover some basics:

Make a roster of families participating in the Walking School Bus.

Make sure to include emergency contact information.

Decide where and when families will meet for the walk to and from school.

Set up a schedule so parents know which days they will help walk the bus.

Decide on a way to track attendance so parents know who to call if their
children will not join the Walking School Bus one day.

Set up a “Rainy Day Plan” so children and parents know what to do if the weather is too bad
to walk.

Share your Walking School Bus Plan with the school. Parents participating in the Walking
School Bus also can register with the school as volunteers.

Get the PTA involved to help provide training and support.
Guidelines for talking to children about pedestrian safety:
1. Always look both ways for cars for you, don’t rely on someone else. Wait until there is NO
traffic and begin crossing, keep looking both ways and don’t run.
2. Choose the safest routes to walk with the fewest and safest streets to cross and avoid
crossing busy or high-speed road if possible.
3. Walk along the street safely using sidewalks or paths. If there are no sidewalks walk facing
traffic and watch for cars turning and pulling out of driveways.
4. When crossing between cars stop at the curb and check if the car is running and if there is a
driver, cross at one end of the car and look both ways.
5. When crossing at an intersection obey traffic sign and signals, look both ways before crossing
and do not trust that cars will obey the rules, watch for cars. It is recommended for children
under 10 to hold an adults hand while crossing.
