Trim to 70” wide. Binding: 2/3 yd fabric L, cut (8) 2-1/4” x wof strips, then sew together end-to-end. Fusible web for appliqué pieces. DINO SPORT Sewing the Blocks Follow the manufacturer’s directions to use fusible web on the appliqué pieces. 1. Sew the Four Patch blocks using (2) fabric H and (2) fabric J 3-1/2” squares. Make 4. 2. Fuse the fabric K football pieces onto the fabric L football shape leaving a narrow black line between the appliqué pieces. Fuse the football to the 6-1/2” x 8-1/2” fabric E background rectangle. Make 2. 3. Fuse, then appliqué the fabric F soccer ball pieces onto the black background circle then appliqué the soccer balls to a fabric E 6-1/2” background square. Make 4. 4. Fuse, then appliqué the fabric G basketball pieces to the background circles, then fuse basketballs to a 6-1/2” background square. Make 4. 5. Use your favorite machine appliqué method to appliqué the footballs, soccer balls and basketballs in place on the fabric background to complete the blocks. border strips.Sew the border strips to the top and bottom of the quilt top. 13. Sew the fabric L 2-1/2” x 82-1/2” border strips to opposite sides of the quilt top. Sew the 2-1/2” x 64-1/2” border strips to the top and bottom of the quilt top. Finishing 14. Layer the quilt top, batting and backing. Quilt the layers together. 15. Fold the binding in half lengthwise. Press the fold line. Pin raw edges of quilt binding to raw edges of quilt top and stitch in place. Turn folded edge to the back of the quilt and stitch in place. Window Valance – 30-1/2” x 18” 1/3 yd fabric B, with sports stripe at the bottom and sports panel at the top; 1/4 yd fabric I; 1/4 yd fabric G; 2/3 yd fabric F for backing. One 30” to 36” adjustable curtain rod with removable ending pieces. Sewing the Border Rows 6. Sew two rows of Four Patch and appliqué ball blocks with (1) each of the balls and (2) Four Patch blocks. Refer to the color photo of the quilt. Make 2 rows. 7. Sew a 1-1/2” x 32-1/2” fabric L strip to the top and bottom of the fabric A center panel. Then sew the two rows of blocks completed in Step 6 to the top and bottom of the fabric L strips. 8. Sew the 2” x 54-1/2” fabric L borders to opposite sides of the quilt top. Sew the 2” x 35-1/2” fabric L borders to the top and bottom of the quilt top. 9. Sew the 5-1/2” x 54-1/2” fabric C borders to opposite sides of the quilt top. Sew a fabric I square to each end of the two 5-1/2” x 35-1/2” border strips, then sew these borders to the top and bottom of the quilt top. 10. Sew the fabric L 2” x 67-1/2” borders to opposite sides of the quilt top then the fabric L 2” x 48-1/2” borders to the top and bottom of the quilt top. 11. Using the 2-1/2” x 6-1/2” strips, sew two vertical borders with 35 strips in each border. Refer to the color photo for placement of the strips in each border. Sew the borders to opposite sides of the quilt top. 12. Using the remaining 2-1/2” x 6-1/2” strips, sew two horizontal borders with 24 strips in each border. Sew a soccer ball and basket ball appliqué block to each end of the two 1. Fussy cut the fabric B running panel 1/4” above the sports panels and 1/4” below the sports stripe. Cut fabric I into (1) 7-1/2” x wof piece and (1) 2-1/2” x width of fabric piece. Cut fabric G into (3) strips 1-1/4” x width of fabric. 2. Sew the 7-1/2” fabric I strip to the top of the fabric B running panel and the 2-1/2” fabric I strip to the bottom of the panel. Sew the fabric G strips together end-to-end, then fold in half lengthwise. Press the folded fabric in half lengthwise, then pin the raw edges of the folded strip to the raw edges of the window valance all around the outside edges. Position the window valance on top of the fabric F backing strip with right sides together. Sew all around the outside edges, leaving a 2” opening 2” down from the top on one of the short ends and a large opening measuring 2” from each end on the opposite short ends of the valance. Turn right sides out. Sew the large opening together leaving a 2” opening at the top of the 2nd short valance side of the valance. To make the casing to run the curtain rod through the valance, topstitch from side to side at the top and the bottom of the 2” opening on the sides of the valance. Slip the rod through and gather the valance along the curtain rod. Fix the ending pieces in place and hang the valance. DINO SPORT Pillow Sham – 26-1/2” x 36-1/2” 1/2 yd fabric E for cording and side borders; 1/3 yd fabric K; 1/4 yd fabric L; 1/8 yd fabrics C, D, G, H, I and J for borders; 1 yd fabric B for borders; 2/3 yd fabric F for appliqué background and football detailing. Fusible web for appliqué, (follow manufacturer’s directions). 3-1/2 yds 1/4” cotton cording. 3/4 yd fabric C for pillow sham back. 3. Cut remaining fabric E into 1-1/4” x length of fabric BIAS strips. Sew together end-to-end, then sew around cotton cording material. Use a zipper or cording foot to sew as close to the cording as possible. Pin the raw edges of the cording to the raw edges of the pillow sham. Using a basting stitch, sew in place. 1. Cut a rectangle 18-1/2” x 22-1/2” for appliqué background. For football appliqué enlarge the football pattern 200%, then cut a fabric L football shape and fabric K football shapes. Cut fabric F football laces. Applique the football in place on the fabric F background. Cut (2) 1-1/2” x 22-1/2” fabric L strips and sew to opposite sides of the center football appliqué. 4. Fussy cut (2) 27-1/2” fabric B border strips and (2) 39-1/4” border strips. Sew the short strips to opposite sides of the pillow sham with the excess fabric loose at both ends sewing from seam line to seam line and backstitching at each end. Sew the long strips to the top and bottom edges in the same manner. Miter the corners and trim away excess fabric from each corner. 2. Cut (4) fabric C, fabric G and fabric H 2-1/2” x 6-1/2” rectangles for borders and (2) fabric B, D, E, I and J 2-1/2” rectangles for borders. Sew two border strips following the placement in the pillow sham photo. Sew these border strips to opposite sides of the pillow sham center. 5. Cut the pillow sham backing fabric in half from top to bottom. Sew a narrow hem on the two edges just cut. Position the pillow sham top on the two halves of the pillow sham back pieces with the selvedge edges even with the outside vertical edges of the top. The centers of the two back pieces will slightly overlap. Pin the pillow sham piece in place then trim the back even with the front. Sew all around the outside edges. Turn the pillow sham right side out. Stuff the bed pillow in the opening at the back. Leave the back pieces open so the pillow can be removed and the pillow sham washed.
