fronts.
Step 3 — Vent
Stitch centre back seam, leaving vent open at bottom. Press seam allowances open and press left vent facing
to inside. Lay right underlap toward left back. To avoid needing to clip, press under allowance of right back
above vent, tapering it. Hem vertical edge of underlap narrowly. Topstitch left centre back diagonally at top
of vent as marked, catching underlap.
Step 4 — Front and back
Stitch front and back section seams. Press seam allowances open.
Step 5 — Bust pieces
Stitch centre lower bust pieces to side lower bust pieces. Press seam allowances open. Stitch upper bust
pieces to lower bust pieces. Press seam allowances open. Stitch lower edge of outer bust pieces to front, from
seam number 5 to corner. Clip seam allowances of front into corners. Stitch front edge of bust pieces to front,
from corner to marked upper seam line. Stitch inner bust pieces to front neck facing as described.
Step 6 — Zip
Stitch right side seam. Sew invisible zip to left opening edges, see the â— Helpful Hintâ— on page 9.
Stitch left side seam from lower edge to zip. Stitch right side seam of facing (as mirror image of dress seam).
Step 7 — Strap
For each strap, lay two pieces together, right sides facing. Stitch long edges together. Turn straps right side
out. Fold pleats in direction of arrows and baste. Baste front strap ends to outer bust pieces as marked on
pattern.
Step 8 — Face upper edge of dress
Pin facing (with inner bust pieces) right sides together with neck edge of dress. At zip opening, turn facing
back, approx. 5 mm (3/16 in) before edge of opening, and pin to upper edge. Turn allowances of dress on
opening edges to outside and pin to neck edge, over facing. Stitch along neck edge, catching straps in front
and leaving seam open in back to insert straps between each seam mark and section seam. Turn facing and
allowances on side opening edges to inside. Press edges. Insert straps into openings in seam on back and pin
in place. Try on dress to determine correct strap length. Then stitch seam closed, first turning facing out
again. Now turn facing to inside and sew to zip tapes. Pin joining seams of bust pieces together exactly. Turn
facing up and sew seam allowance together, close to seam. Turn facing down again. Sew lower edge of
3
facing to seams.
Step 9 — Hem
At hem edge, open back vent facing again. Press hem allowance to inside and sew in place by hand. Turn
facing to inside again and sew to hem allowance.
