TRAMS AM 2 GTA BASED RACE CAR 3195 Lyle Rd Beaverton, Michigan 48612 (989) 435-7080 fax: (888) 484-3946 Howe makes it affordable to own a purpose built road racing car with professional level looks and performance. Every part of the car is made with ease of maintenance and repair in mind. This is not a recycled oval track car; it is a dedicated road racer based on the cars that we build for Europe’s Camaro Cup and DNRT V8. Roll cage construction is consistent with FIA standards. To compete in the Trans Am 2 class the car will be required to add ballast up to 2930 lbs., with a maximum rear percentage of 52%. The car can run well balanced without ballast as low as 2500 lbs. allowing you to improve the power to weight ratio for maximum performance and lower lap time when running at the club level. Key Components Wheels and Tires – The car is equipped with 15” x 10” Circle brand painted racing wheels with a bolt pattern for your choice of 5” x 5” or Wide 5 . To meet the 65” maximum tread width rule requires wheels with 5” back space. Tires are your choice of TA2 Spec Goodyear tires or Hoosier tires in a compound of your choice. Tires are priced separate from the car at market prices. Shocks – All cars are made to use coilover springs and 1/2” bearing mount U.S. racing shocks, 7” stroke front and 9” stroke rear. You have a choice of the brand and model with the Penske 7500 series aluminum body rebuildable shocks standard . You can choose a lower cost fixed valve shock or upgrade to single or double adjustable shock. Steering – The made for racing rack and pinion steering allows the speed and power assist to be tailored to your driving preference. Cooling – The Howe radiator includes a built in heat exchanger for oil cooling and is supplied with a surge tank to bleed air out of the system and improve efficiency. An overflow tank and all hoses are included. Power steering and transmission coolers are located in the air duct ahead of the radiator. The transmission cooling pump is activated by a thermostat or manual switch. Rear Suspension – The rear suspension is the three-link type with an adjustable panhard rod. Exhaust – The exhaust system includes Howe headers with stepped primaries from 1-3/4” to 1-7/8”. The headers and system are ceramic coated to reduce under hood temperatures. The Howe Double Barrel racing muffler reduces the sound level below 100 db at 100’ with no loss of power. The European version of the Howe chassis is a growing success in the Sweden based Camaro Cup with more than 40 cars already in action. The monotube frame is purpose built for racing. It is designed to perform and meet all safety specification. The finished cockpit includes a complete wire harness, fuse block and controls for taillights, brake lights, gearbox cooler and fuel pump with low fuel indicator with provisions for optional headlights and windshield wipers. Rear Axle – We use a reliable Tiger low friction quick change with a Detroit locking differential and an integral cooling pump and external cooler. Brakes – The master cylinders are Howe with remote reservoirs for easy gravity bleeding. The standard brake system includes Wilwood six piston front calipers. 12.19” AP J-hook front rotors are used to meet the TA2 rules. The rear calipers are 4 piston with 11.75” rotors. A pair of 3” brake cooling ducts are standard with optional auxiliary ducts and blowers to the front calipers. Engine – The Schwanke / Howe 450 sealed engine produces over 450 bhp at 6400 rpm and 425 ft.lbs. of torque with a 6800 rpm limit. The engine is a 5.7 liter LS3 based V8. The chassis will accept almost any V8 engine including all of the carbureted engine options allowed under the Trans Am 2 GTA Based Specification. Fuel Cell – The shorter rear of the Camaro body in combination with the quick change rear end require a special dimension 22 gallon ATL fuel cell. The cell is equipped with an internal fuel pump matched to the LS, EFI engine. Gear Box – The broad torque band allows the car to perform well with the required 4 speed transmission. The GTA spec limits the transmission to a “stock car type” non-sequential transmission with an H pattern shifter. We have found that the best performance for the money comes from a custom built Jerico 4 speed with a Long brand competition shifter. It is equipped with an electric fluid circulation pump and forward mounted cooler. Clutch – The clutch we recommend is a Quartermaster 7.25” three disc clutch housing with two special thickness “Rally” discs. This clutch is part of a package that includes an aluminum bell housing with a reverse mounted starter for added ground clearance. SCCA rules allow a minimum 5.25” diameter clutch if you choose the lighter weight and higher price. Body – The Camaro look body is made by Howe in two different forms; a narrow version for Europe and a wide version for the U.S. The body is fiberglass with a choice on the front facia of a flexible two piece polypropylene or a less durable but good looking one piece fiberglass. The grill and headlights are decals with the mirrors being the only production Camaro parts. The silhouette of the body is identical to a stock 2010 Camaro. The wheelbase is shortened to 104” to create long crush zones ahead of and behind the tires. Bodies are painted black on the inside and are unpainted on the exterior. Custom paint or vinyl is available and is quoted individually. Summary We have the capacity to produce over 100 specialized race cars per year in addition to manufacturing and stocking all parts needed for maintenance and repair. Complete manuals are supplied with each car. Itemized pricing that details the cost and specification of each component is available on request. Time and Production Delivery time from deposit is seasonal and is typically 6 to 10 weeks. January to April are traditionally the busiest months for car orders. Terms Depending on any unique customer requirements orders require a deposit minimum of 20% prior to production with the balance due upon completion. All prices are F.O.B. our plant.
