A "busy box" that contains crayons, bubbles, coloring books, cards, books, word puzzles, small games, and pencils helps patients fight boredom. Always make sure to check in advance about allergy/sensitivity issues and food likes/dislikes. This can be combined with friendly visits, above, if appropriate. Spend time with health-challenged members of your community and/or frail seniors in need of companionship. Organize small groups (3-5) to visit those cannot easily get out into the community, or who are currently hospitalized or in long-term care settings. Make cards/crafts to bring. Some may appreciate gifts of food or teas, etc., if permitted by their condition – always make sure to check in advance whether these are welcome and about allergy/sensitivity issues. Well-behaved pets may be welcome in some cases – check in advance.
