Monica Emerson was elected
by her peers as Alexandrian
Public Library Employee of
the Year for 2013. She was
presented with the award at
the staff Holiday Dinner on
December 11.
Monica joined the full-time library staff in
2011 as the Administrative Assistant, but
you may also know her from her work at the
circulation and reference desks, or from her
crafting help with adult programs.

Mission Statement: The Alexandrian Public Library is the primary provider of information resources
and services for enriching the lives of residents of Posey County and the surrounding area.
Programing Offered in the 2013 Calendar Year
Staff Giving of Themselves
Library staff continue giving of themselves in
2013 – participating in Relay for Life, Salvation Army bell ringing and donating to United
Way.
The staff also donated “Casual Day” funds to
the Big Brothers & Big Sisters and the American Diabetes Association, and donated “Can
My Fines” proceeds to the Food Pantry.
Served on boards for ILF Marketing Division,
ILF District 5/7, United Way, Relay for Life,
River Days, Young Professionals of Posey
County, Posey County Community Foundation
and Lakeshore Division Relay Advisory Team
for American Cancer Society.
Judged exhibits at the Posey County 4-H fair,
marched in the Mt. Vernon Christmas parade,
and adopted a family for Christmas through
Trinity Church.
Collection Services, Clerk Carlyn Pittman was
one of many staff members volunteering time
as a Salvation Army bell ringer.
Friends of the APL
Funds contributed by the Friends members for
library programs: $9,171.53

held one book sale taking in: $2,533.71

Special Displays and Exhibits
Two exhibits dedicated to the Posey County
community were held.
The first honored 65 Posey County artists
with the Posey County Winter’s End Art
Show, held in April. For the three days of the
exhibition, 169 individuals visited the show.
Working in conjunction with Mount Vernon
River Days in September, the library also
hosted an open exhibit, “School Days”. For
the three days of the exhibition, 266 individuals visited the show.

Marsha and Jerry King provided numerous
old time school artifacts for the “School
Days” exhibit.
Over the course of the year, the foyer gallery
and glass display case also displayed the
work of 22 local artists and special collections
of public interest.
