Wings
Make entrancing music anywhere with the most affordable and portable Freenotes instrument: the
Wing!
The Wing employs a five-tone pentatonic scale, so all notes are in harmony. There are no wrong
notes! No difficult techniques are required to produce their lovely tones — just tap on the middle of
the bar — players and listeners alike will be soothed and delighted by their pure tones.
The Wing is available in the four pentatonic scales of G Major, D Minor, C Major and A Minor. All notes
within each set are in complete harmony. A tap on the bar produces pure tones of consistent quality
that sustain for over six seconds creating layers of soothing sound.
The Wing has been designed to be played in many different ways… place the Wing on a flat surface
and you can play using one or two mallets… or hold the Wing in one hand while playing with the
other. The Wing can even be hung and played on a wall, showcasing its visual beauty as well as its
harmonic sounds.
As with all Freenotes instruments, there are no wrong notes, so you can be as free as you wish. All
combinations of the tones will be pleasing. Play them and hear for yourself.
The Wing has been designed to require no maintenance. It will never go out of tune and the lacquered metal bars will not tarnish or stain. There are no moving parts to adjust. Like all Freenotes
instruments, the Wing is built to last and is sturdy enough for even the most energetic children. The
Wing is practically indestructible. The rubber pads are all that can be detached, and a bit of contact
cement quickly makes them as good as new again.
Each Wing includes one pair of mallets.

Wings
The Bass Octave - The ideal accompaniment for the Wing. The Bass Octave
instrument creates a rich canvas of low
tones for the melodic Wing instrument to
play over. With four corresponding scales
to the Wings, the Bass Octave instrument
is comprised of six low notes in the pentatonic scales of either G major, D minor,
C major or A minor. The notes are made
with 2 inch wide aluminum bars that are resonated by 2 1/2 inch square tubes, giving these low tones
remarkable projection for their size and cost.
The Sillouette completes the
metal trio with the Wings and Bass
Octave. Resonated soprano steel
chimes, ranging one octave above
the Wing, create a brightly crisp
sound to compliment the soothing tones of the Wing and Bass
Octave. These instruments allow anyone to step effortlessly into ensemble play regardless of experience. Struck with wooden disk mallets of traditional Balinese design, the half wave resonators capture a lovely floating sustain of each note played. Like the Bass Octave, the Silhouette comes in a
compatible scale to the four offered for the Wing.

Gamelan Ensemble
This five-piece ensemble, comprised of the Pegasus and its Addendum, Imbarimba, Moonlight Cyls
and Bass/Contrabass Marimba is entirely compatible. The Gamelan ensemble allows people to play
music together — right away — whether they have played music before or not. The instruments can
be played (and purchased) individually, or as a partial or complete ensemble.
Music is a doorway to a state of expanded awareness, beauty and sensitivity — and it’s just plain fun
to enter into the oneness of ensemble playing.
The Freenotes Gamelan ensemble offers a shortcut to “the jam”.
Playing a traditional instrument takes time and effort to master the scales and read sheet music.
Then, it takes a second level of mastery to play written music with other musicians. A third level of
musical mastery comes when you can sit down with other players and spontaneously play music
together, improvising by ear — “jam”. In most cases, it takes years of study and practice to get to this
third level.
The Gamelan ensemble takes you to the third level — “the jam” — in about 15 minutes!
Playing music by ear is easy with the Gamelan ensemble because all the notes go together. Unencumbered by rules and sheets of music, the players can respond to each other musically — in
the moment where music is fresh and alive. The Gamelan ensemble allows the natural musician to
emerge quickly and effortlessly.
These five instruments represent a western-scale version of the Gamelan village orchestras originating in Indonesia several thousand years ago. The Gamelan ensemble employs complimentary pentatonic and diatonic scales so all the notes within the entire ensemble are in harmony.
