“Lift up a standard for the people.”
(Isaiah 62:10)
A number of people have asked me what my goals are for Southeastern or,
in other words, “Where do we go from here?” With that question in mind, I
want first to say that the Lord has been extremely good to us. The beginning
of this semester began on a far better level than I anticipated. First, my hope
for enrollment was that we would not be any lower than 95. Well, the Lord
has blessed us with 33 energized new students, and the Lord made it possible
for the majority of our students to return from last semester. As a result, I am
thrilled to say that we currently have 107 enrolled. Praise the Lord!
Now, returning to the question of my immediate goals for Southeastern, there
are basically two: (1) take care of our debt and (2) become accredited. These
two goals are tied together and determine our effectiveness and existence in
the future.
As of the beginning of October, Southeastern’s indebtedness was
approximately $400,000, and that debt is directly connected to the process
of accreditation. (By the way, that is great considering that 3 years ago we
had a debt of $385,000 with a projected budget shortfall of approximately
$400,000.) I do not have the space here to expand on why I believe we
should be accredited, but I am committed to this process. However, our
present debt will not allow us to start or sustain the accreditation process
which at a minimum calls for us to attend accreditation conferences, sustain
accreditation team visits, pay accreditation fees, enrich our library, develop
accreditation staff, and conduct a yearly audit. At the same time I believe that
there is someone or several someones among our people who can help us
clear this debt and move us into a rapid position of getting accredited.
If Southeastern’s debt were paid off and we had the needed funds at the end
of this academic year, we could realistically arrive at candidacy status by
the fall of 2015. I am saying that we must pay off our $400,000 indebtedness
and then have another $500,000 to begin and acquire our candidacy for
accreditation. There is no doubt that past efforts have been made to reduce
and pay off our indebtedness, but there was not the realization that it took that
much and more to be a candidate for accreditation.
You see then that the two goals of clearing our debt and becoming accredited
are tied together. Plus, there is no doubt that our enrollment numbers have an
effect on these undertakings as well. If our numbers are low, the indebtedness
rises.
If your desire is like mine, and you want to see us become an accredited
institution, help us get there. The timetable of getting to that position depends
on how our people and churches respond. I can assure you that we are doing
all we can at Southeastern to cut costs and bring in more students. That is
not an easy task in itself, but without your help we will never be able to attain
candidacy for accreditation. I have no doubt that some of you, perhaps many
of you, can help us with this endeavor. If you can, let us know, and thank you
in advance.

It was a beautiful, early fall day when
56 golfers met from three states to play in
the annual Benefit Golf Tournament. The
course -- The Neuse Golf Club in Clayton,
NC -- was immaculate. The weather was
perfect. The competition was fierce. The
food was delicious. The gifts and prizes
were fantastic. Over $30,000 was raised for
the scholarship program at Southeastern.
The winners of our tournament this year
were again on a team from Parkers Chapel.
Prizes given during the day included a $100
gift certificate to each of the winning team,
a brand new Taylormade r1 driver, dozens
of ProV1 golf balls, and many, many more.
Like previous years we gave every golfer
a chance to win a new car for a hole in one
on two holes and a few golfers a chance to
win $2500 for a 50 foot putt or a million
dollars for a special hole in one shot. No
one was able to win any of these special
prizes, but it was fun to try!
Please make plans on joining us next
year as we again go to the Neuse Golf Club
on October 7th.

Cuisine at our Missions Banquet where Dr.

A shock wave spread through the campus on September 15th when we realized that freshman Sean Smith was to undergo surgery for a mass in his abdomen.
Sean’s faith and undying spirit has been an inspiration to all. Here are some excerpts of what he has written regarding his experience.
09/12/13: I feel absolutely awful. Fever, freezing, cold, headache! . Why?
09/15/13: The Lords in control and He has a purpose for this.
09/17/13: Ok…the mass/tumor is 100% cancer and the very bad news is that it is stage 4...God knows what is best.
09/17/13: My family and I talked to the Oncologist just a few hours ago. He said I need to do some chemo therapy (which)
should help me to live a little longer. I can’t do it without prayer, friends, family, and the Lord My God.
09/22/13: God is good. He has allowed me to pass out tracts to every worker that comes into my room. Pray that those people
read them and understand their destiny if they don’t accept Christ. God is using my sickness for His glory!
09/25/13: About to leave this place to head home. Feeling great, just a little weak and tired. Bye bye hospital bed!
10/03/13: Feeling tons better! Going back to college tomorrow.
10/22/13: Got the results from my pet scan. Praise The Lord, my scan came back showing no sign of cancer anywhere in my
body! I will still be taking 6 months of chemo just in case there are any micro cells in my colon still. Thanks for all the prayers,
The Lord is good! I’m on the road to recovery. Love y’all! Prayer works!
