PURCHASE AWARD RESTRICTIONS
The work selected for the Purchase Award will
become part of the Arts Center’s Permanent
Collection. Any artist who will not accept the
$1,000 award for a piece valued over this amount
must submit a written statement at time of entry
to declare their work not eligible for this award.
Works Not For Sale (NFS) will automatically be
considered ineligible for this award.

ELIGIBILITY
Open to all US artists 18 years of age or older
working in ceramics, fiber, glass, metal, wood,
paper, or any other combination of craft media.
Work must be original (no kits), completed in the
past two years, and not previously exhibited at
the Arts Center. Entry to this exhibit establishes
an agreement on the part of the artist to exhibit
selected works under all conditions listed in the
prospectus. Substitutions for accepted works are
not allowed.
ENTRY FEE
Artists may submit up to four (4) works for a nonrefundable $25 fee. Payment must accompany
entries. Check or Money Order must be made
out to City of Rocky Mount. (Major Credit Cards
are also accepted. Please call the Arts Center for
information.)
LIABILITY
Accepted Entries will be insured by the City of
Rocky Mount from receipt through June 19, 2014
for 60% of the retail price. Please note in the
instance of a claim, artists will be held
responsible for adequate proof of value before
compensation is provided. Works designated as
NFS must have a stated insurance value and will
be held to the same burden of proof if a claim is
reported. Works remaining past June 19, 2014
will not be insured. Works left after July 19, 2014
become property of the Arts Center and may be
disposed of.
JUROR
Born in Indonesia to American parents, Anthony
Ulinski had the perfect upbringing to be a painter
and craftsman. He spent his wonder years all
over the world – Africa, Asia, Europe, the U.S. –
developing an observational streak. Developing
his disciplines in woodworking and painting, his
furniture and sculpture has complex shapes &
painted surfaces, his paintings show a scope of
our native landscape through eyes that have
seen the world.
Ulinski has exhibited at the Smithsonian Craft
Fair, the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Fair,
and the John Elder Gallery in New York. He
teaches both woodworking and painting, and has
been an instructor at Penland School of Crafts in
NC, Arrowmont School of Crafts in TN, and
Peters Valley Craft Center in NJ. and assisted at
Haystack in Maine.
He continues woodworking, painting, accepting
commissions and creating new work for galleries

JUDGING
Artworks accepted in preliminary judging by
digital image do not constitute exhibition into
Handcrafted. If upon delivery, an accepted
artwork is found to have been misrepresented by
the image sent, it may be disqualified. Award
winners will be selected by the juror after the
exhibition is installed.
ENTRY PROCEDURES
Up to four (4) pieces may be entered. Each
artwork may be represented by up to three (3)
separate images showing details or different
views of the work. Works should be submitted
using the format below for preliminary judging.
Images of works accepted will be retained by the
Arts Center for its permanent records and
publicity purposes.
Digital Images must be in Jpeg format
only with each work saved as a separate file on a
CD. Entries may not be emailed. All Jpeg images
need to be saved at a minimum resolution of
350dpi. Each file must be identified by artist
name, entry number, and title. Artist names
should not be embedded in the image. CDs
must be identified with artist name and list of
artworks as corresponds to the entry form.
PowerPoint formatted entries will be disqualified.

than November 20, 2013 include all images of
works on CD, completed entry form, $25 entry
fee made payable to City of Rocky Mount

SALES
The Arts Center will retain 40% commission on
works sold. To receive payment, artists will need
to submit a completed W-9 form which will be
forwarded upon sale. Payments will be mailed
within 6 weeks after the close of the show. Works
not for sale (NFS) must have a stated insurance
value.
INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
All works must be completely dry, framed, wired,
ready for hanging, or otherwise suitably prepared
for exhibition. No sawtooth hangers accepted.
Orientation or installation instructions should be
included with work. Works may not exceed 8 feet
in any direction.
DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED WORKS
Accepted works may be shipped or handdelivered. All works must arrive no later than
January 12, 2014 to:

The artist is responsible for all shipping and
return shipping costs and arrangements to and
from the Arts Center. Shipped entries must be
sent in reusable containers. The Arts Center will
pack each piece in its original packing when
available. Artists are responsible for arranging
return shipping to the address of origin through
their local UPS/FedEx/USPS or other shipping
office at the close of the exhibition. Shipping
insurance is the responsibility of the artist. The
Arts Center will not accept monies for shipping
and is not responsible for works lost, stolen, or
damaged once picked up by the shipper.
