NOV 9TH, 10TH, 11TH Friday night Samantha Fish opens the show, Saturday the Nace Brothers open and Sunday it’s an Old Time Southern Gospel Brunch with Pau Thorn at 11:00 am. Limited Reserved seating for brunch. Paul Thorn took an unexpected detour on the road to recording a follow-up to his most successful release, 2010's Pimps and Preachers. After writing many discs of semiautobiographical tunes that have drawn comparisons to John Hiatt and John Prine, the critically acclaimed singer/songwriter - hailed as the "Mark Twain of Americana" - decided to do an album of covers. "I wanted to take a break from myself," he reveals, "do something different, and just have fun." The collection, entitled What The Hell Is Goin' On? finds Thorn putting his own gritty rock stamp on some of his favorite songs. www.knuckleheadskc.com Paul Thorn It’s time to get you tickets to the best show in KC this weekend. Pellentesque eu aliquet vel in vitae Sonny Moorman Blues Band Thursday November 8th "I came to play" says Sonny Moorman. "I was raised in the bars my folks owned in and around Hamilton, OH and got to hear world class artistsl and learned one thing – all the hype in the world doesn't mean a thing unless you can back it up!" Those are words Sonny has lived by through the decades of roadhouses, bars, and juke joints from coast to coast. He backed it up gig after gig, night after night, and year after year until his own "hype" got too big to go unnoticed any longer. After a decade of playing rock bars in Michigan with a variety of bands and a five year "visit" to LA during which he graduated from Musician's Institute and played with "Z Deluxe" (Warren Zevon's former tour band), Moorman returned to Ohio – and to the Blues. With this new record, you have these incredible musicians doing surprising things on the fly. There’s a looseness yet remarkable precision. You stop worrying about minutia and you start saying, ‘Does that communicate? Do you feel the emotion?’” Foster enthusiasts can guess the answer. Sonny Landreth Saturday November 17th with special guest Levee Town his songs made popular by stars like Keith Urban (“I’m In,” “Raining on a Sunday”), Sara Evans (“A Real Fine Place to Start”), Landreth’s music has always been evocative, a vibrant mixture of indigenous sounds and images informed by Delta blues and Faulkner alike. But here, by eschewing lyrics and vocals, he’s located something especially pure and unfettered. “What I’d hoped to end up creating was sonic stories without words,” he says. “And because there are no lyrics, it’s really important to connect on an emotional level. All of the titles for these songs have meaning for me — some of them are impressions from post-Katrina, Rita, the Gulf Spill, friends of mine and their experiences — so that’s part of it too. Still, I want listeners to feel something that resonates with them personally. I’ve always tried to make music that engages you on a deeper level that way.” Levee Town, one of KC’s hardest working blues bands & coincidentally the name of a famous Sonny Landreth tune, open the show. Miss Marvines 80th Birthday Bash Sat Nov 17th 1:30pm Others have discovered proof positive in the Dixie Chicks (“Godspeed,” “Never Say Die”), and Gary Allan (“Half of My Mistakes’). Of course, Foster’s first work in the late 1980s country duo Foster and Lloyd (“Crazy Over You,” “Fair Shake”) alone displays his indelible portraits both timely (“What Do You Want from Me This Time”) and timeless (“Texas in 1880”). Del Rio, TX Revisited: Unplugged and Lonesome simply doubles down. “These songs are still as real to me,” Foster says. “They take on different meanings because it is 20 years later, but the stories still resonate.” Rick Estrin & the NightCats and singing Leiber and Stoller." Along with The Nightcats- jawdropping guitarist Chris "Kid" Andersen, singing drummer (who plays standing up) J. He believed he would not only be able to make a living playing music, but could develop his own signature sound, fusing blues with R&B and roots rock ‘n’ roll. And he has done just that. Castro began his career playing in local Bay Area cover bands prior to joining the nationally touring R&B party band, The Dynatones. Since forming his own band and relentlessly touring the world, he has become one of the blues’ top drawing artists and bestloved performers, known worldwide for his impassioned vocals, forceful guitar work, striking songwriting and galvanizing live show. Castro’s contagious, boyish energy and his uncanny ability to connect one-onone with his fans – who often travel great distances to watch him play — have made him and his horn-fueled band among the blues world’s busiest, most popular acts. About Joann Shaw Taylor... For the last couple of years, Joanne Shaw Taylor has been busy redefining the cliche, plays like a girl. How did you spend your summer vacation when you were 17? She spent hers touring Europe with the supergroup D.U.P. with fellow band members Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), Candy Dulpher (Prince), Mudbone Cooper (Parliment-Funkadelic) and Jimmy Cliff. If you can imagine the love child of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Dusty Springfield then you are beginning to get a feel for Joanne’s mixture of fiery guitar playing, sultry vocals and 100% pure soul. But unlike many other young phenoms, she has quickly developed a resumé to back up the hype.
