10.875 in The Olay Professional Alliance for Skin Care Innovation Consensus Statement on Olay Professional Pro-X Introduction: The current Olay Professional Pro-X line consists of 6 products: Olay Professional Pro-X is a new skin care line launched by Procter & Gamble in January of 2009. As a critical element in the technology and product development path, a panel of distinguished dermatologists joined by senior P&G scientists formed an alliance with the goal of using their expertise to bring a high level of product performance to women via the Olay Professional Pro-X proposition. Primary Solutions • Age Repair Lotion with SPF 30 • Wrinkle Smoothing Cream • Hydra Firming Cream Specialized Treatments • Discoloration Fighting Concentrate • Eye Restoration Complex • Deep Wrinkle Treatment These products have been tested for their efficacy at reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improving stratum corneum barrier health and exfoliation in a series of controlled clinical studies. Protocols for these studies were approved by Alliance members. Consensus Statements: 1.Olay Professional Pro-X is a true professional skin care line that meets the following criteria: • Professionally Tested: A professional skin care product line must be clinically proven to produce the intended skin benefits. Clinical trial design and execution must be conducted with the highest scientific rigor to meet the study objectives. These trials must be conducted by specialists highly trained in the methods used and ideally by independent research organizations with no vested interest in the study results. • Advanced Science-Driven Innovation • Professionally Designed • Professional Regimens and Protocols • Professionally Tested • Proven Results • Peer-Reviewed Communications • Proven Results: Results from both in vitro studies and controlled clinical trials must substantiate the conclusion that a professional skin care line delivers consumer-noticeable skin benefits as claimed. The following criteria should be achieved to meet the definition of a “professional” skin care product line. • Advanced Science-Driven Innovation: A professional skin care line should start with an advanced scientific understanding of skin. For example, a new gene expression profiling method helped increase understanding of the importance of a healthy stratum corneum to the well-being of the inner skin. • Peer-Reviewed Communications: The results from both in vitro studies and controlled clinical trials should be published in peer-reviewed and searchable scientific journals. 3.Daily use of the Olay Professional Pro-X Wrinkle Reduction Regimen consisting of Age Repair Lotion with SPF 30, Wrinkle Smoothing Cream and Deep Wrinkle Treatment significantly improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles after 8 weeks of use. • Professional Regimens and Protocols: The design team should consider the fact that no single product, nor ingredient, can provide the multiple efficacy benefits needed by most individuals. Equally important, marketedproduct characteristics must be carefully designed to ensure consumers like the product every time they use it in order to achieve compliance. Based on both the 8-week and 24-week results from the facial appearance benefits study, use of the Olay Professional Pro-X Wrinkle Reduction Regimen (Age Repair Lotion with SPF 30, Wrinkle Smoothing Cream and Deep Wrinkle Treatment) significantly reduces the appearance of facial fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes relative to the baseline. Both expert visual grading analysis and objective computer image analysis of high resolution digital images of the subjects before and after treatment support this conclusion. Subjects’ self-assessments via questionnaire before and after treatment confirm the effects are consumer noticeable. In independent clinical testing using objective methods to measure 3-dimensional appearance changes in fine lines and wrinkles (FOITS), daily use of the individual products in the Olay Professional Pro-X line was shown to improve wrinkle smoothness and diminish the depth of periorbital wrinkling.
