2015 Solivita Car Show
T
Articles
he 2015 Solivita Car Show on Saturday, March 21st will benefit
two local food banks. St. Rose of Lima and Laurel Elementary
School Food Pantry will receive the food donations collected from
Car Show entrants and Solivita residents, along with the proceeds
from registration fees and vendor donations. Donations to food
banks tend to drop off after the holidays. Food bank representatives
stated, “this has been the worst year yet and spring is typically the
slowest time of the year for donations.”
The first Solivita Car Show was in 2002 with only 22 cars. The show
was on and off for several years and became an annual event in 2012
with 58 cars and 13 motorcycles. Last year the Show attracted over
125 vehicles and 15 vendors. Classics, muscle cars, trucks, and yes,
even a 1964 Mack Pumper Fire Truck could be seen as you strolled
down Village Drive. This year promises to be bigger and better than
ever as word has spread that this is the place where many want to
show off their ride. Thanks go out to the Car Show Committee,
Lifestyles, and the many volunteers who make this event happen
every year.
We are very fortunate to have DJ JR Goodman providing the music
and announcements again this year. JR runs the Muscle Car Network
of Central Florida, also called Florida Cool Cars. JR has a large
following, as he is at every major car show in the area every weekend.
He, along with Mike Steiner, who brings his ’67 Chevelle SS 396 to
the shows put together pictures and articles on the events they
attend. JR and Mike have helped make this show a great success.
New this year is the ability to register online along with the Solivita
Car Show website that they helped set up.
Solivita residents are asked to bring a non-perishable food item that
can be dropped off at stations by the Ballroom and the Golf Pro
Shop. Hungry? Check out the Car Show food items at Mosaics, the
Bistro, and The Grille! Nothing like “Hot Rod” pizza and a “Classic”
cup of coffee! The Car Show and vendor displays start at 10am with
judging and awards at 1pm. The grand finale is the Parade of Cars as
they start their engines and cruise down Village Drive at 2pm to end
the show. This has become a very popular part of the show for both
participants and spectators alike….STICK AROUND!
If you would like to register to participate in the Car Show, you can
register in the Lifestyles Office or online at http://solivitacarshow.
eventbee.com. If you register online, there will be a $3 processing
fee. See ad on page 7. Photos by Joe Thomas.

Cork & Bottle
Our 2015 program began at our annual January dinner party at Savion’s Place in downtown Kissimmee. Chef Savion
prepared an outstanding four-course meal. Entrées included chorizo and boursin chicken breast, blackened or grilled
salmon, and filet mignon. Inspired desserts included sweet potato cheesecake, guava cheesecake, and key lime pie. We brought our
own favorite wines and the result was a great evening and a good start to the New Year. We thank Chef Savion and his entire staff for
creating this truly special evening.
