Scholarship Bulletin #2 2012-13 School Year How to apply for scholarships: Read the criteria for the scholarship. If a website is listed, apply online. See Mrs. Kelley if you need additional materials such as a transcript or recommendation. If there is not a website listed, see Mrs. Kelley for a paper copy of the application. There are scholarship search engines listed at the end of this bulletin. With the number of scholarships available, students must always be looking for scholarships on these websites. General Scholarships AFT/Robert G. Porter Scholarship 4-$8000 scholarships Scholarships for graduating high school seniors who are children of AFT members are eligible to apply. Seniors may apply at www.aft.org/aftplus/scholarships Applications may be downloaded beginning November 15, 2012. Deadline to apply is March 31, 2013 Big 33 Scholarship $100-$10,000 scholarships Seniors who have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and plan to attend an accredited postsecondary institution are eligible to apply. Seniors should apply at www.big33.org. The school verification code for Berea High School is B0360435. Window to apply is October 15, 2012 through February 11, 2013 Burger King Scholarship $1000 scholarships Seniors must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, work part-time, be actively involved in community service activities, demonstrate financial need and plan to attend an accredited two or four-year school in the fall of 2012. Seniors may apply at www.haveityourwayfoundation.org using the access key BKS. The application window is November 15, 2012 and closes January 10, 2013 Cleveland Browns Foundation Marion Motley Scholarship Two four-year renewable scholarships of $2500 per year Seniors must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, ACT minimum of 18 or 860 on the SAT, and demonstrate financial need. Seniors should be planning to major in business, accounting, finance, human resources, information technology, communications, journalism, public relations or exercise science. Seniors must apply at www.clevelandbrowns.com/Marion-Motley-Scholarship Deadline to apply is November 14, 2012 Cleveland Cavaliers/First Merit Scholarship 10-$2000 scholarships Seniors must demonstrate academic achievement, co-curricular involvement, recommendation and complete an essay to apply. Deadline to apply is February 17, 2013 Cleveland Cavaliers/Majestic Steel Scholarship Program 6-$2000 scholarships Seniors who plan to major in manufacturing at Tri-C, Lakeland or LCCC are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Deadline to apply is March 12, 2013 College Steps Program Scholarship Sweepstakes $100-$1000 scholarships Seniors planning to continue with their post-secondary education are eligible to apply. Students must be registered at www.wellsfargo.com/collegesteps. Drawings will be held monthly October, 2012 through May, 2013 Elks-Most Valuable Student Scholarship $1000-$15,000 scholarships Applications will be judged on scholarship, leadership and financial needs. Essay is required. Students may apply online at www.elks.org. Deadline to apply is December 7, 2012 Engineers Foundation of Ohio Total $25,000 scholarships will be given Seniors with a minimum GPA of 3.0, minimum ACT score of math-29, English-25 or SAT score of math-600, critical reading-500, and plan to major in engineering are eligible to apply. Students may apply at www.ohioengineer.com Deadline to apply is December 15, 2012 Foundation for Individual Rights in Education $1000-$5000 scholarships Any senior may write an in-depth essay explaining why free speech and First Amendment rights are crucial to higher education and how abuses of these rights harm the college experience. Seniors must enter online at www.thefire.org Deadline to apply is November 25, 2012 Gates Millennium Scholars Program Scholarship amounts vary by individual financial need Students of African-American, Hispanic-American or Native American are eligible to apply. A GPA of 3.3 and demonstration of leadership abilities, community service or extracurricular activities are needed. See Mrs. Kelley for extensive application materials. Deadline to apply is January 16, 2013 National Washington Crossing Foundation $1000-$2000 scholarships Seniors who are planning careers in government service are eligible to apply. Students must include a one page essay why student is planning a career in government service and any inspiration derived from the leadership of George Washington crossing the Delaware. Students may apply at www.gwcf.org. Deadline to apply is January 15, 2013 Next Step Publishing $1000-$10,000 scholarships Seniors must be planning to pursue higher education. Students can apply at www.nextstepmag.com/Contests. Deadline to apply is June 1, 2013 NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award $1000 to $10,000 scholarships Seniors must demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit by owning their own small business, or work part-time at a family-owned business, or be involved in an organization such as Junior Achievement. Seniors may apply at www.NFIB.com/YEA beginning October 1st. Deadline to apply is December 17, 2012 Off to College Scholarship Sweepstakes $1000 scholarships will be given every two weeks from October 26, 2012 through May 10, 2012. Seniors must be planning to a college, university or technical school in the fall of 2012. Students must apply online at www.suntrusteducation.com/offtocollegesweepstakes. The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Greater Cleveland $1000 scholarships Seniors planning to attend The Ohio State University, demonstrate involvement in school and community activities, show a sound interest and positive attitude toward college work and are a resident of Cuyahoga County are eligible to apply. Deadline to apply is January 12, 2013 Ohio University Women's Club of Greater Cleveland Partial to full tuition scholarships Female students planning to attend Ohio University and have a 3.5 GPA and at least a 25 ACT or 1140 SAT are eligible to apply. Deadline to apply is February 15, 2013 US Bank Internet Scholarship Program $1000 scholarships Students are awarded scholarships through a random drawing process. Students can apply online at www.usbank.com/studentbanking. Program runs October through March 31, 2013 The National Commission for Cooperative Education The following schools offer renewable merit co-op scholarships of $6000 per year renewable up to $42,000. The schools are Drexel, Johnson and Wales, Kettering, Pac, RIT, UC, Toledo and Wentworth Institute of Technology. Further information can be found at www.waceinc.org.
