DLR Koeln-Porz - How to find
The German Aerospace Center (DLR) Koeln site is located south-east of
Cologne, close to Koeln Bonn Airport.
By train
The local trains ("S-Bahn") S 12 or S 13 leave from Koeln Hauptbahnhof
(Hbf), Siegburg and Troisdorf. The local train S 13 also leaves from Koeln
Bonn Airport. Daytime departures take place every 20 min for both trains so
that there is a train every 10 minutes. Get off at the railway station
"Porz-Wahn" and continue from there by KVB bus number 160, direction "DLR".

Note: Make sure that you have a valid ticket. Tickets for local train
routes must be purchased in advance. If you need a ticket, you can get one
from the ticket machines.
By bus
To get to DLR Koeln by bus, take the KVB bus number 160 from Porz-Wahn. The
bus sign will show "DLR". Please be sure that you take the one saying "DLR"
as there are different routes for bus number 160. Exit at the last stop and
you have arrived at the main gate of the German Aerospace Center (DLR)
Koeln.
By taxi
Upon arrival at Koeln Hauptbahnhof (central station) take a taxi to "PorzWahnheide, " DLR". Taxi stands are located on both, the north and south
exit of the station. Taxis are available almost everywhere in Cologne.
However, if you can't find one, you can call Tel. 19410 and ask to be
picked up. Tell the driver to take you to "Porz-Wahnheide, DLR". The price
will very much depend on daytime and traffic but from Cologne central
station to DLR without any traffic jam it should not exceed 35 Euros.
By car
Have a look at the map on the right: Arriving from Frankfurt (A3) or from
Bonn (A59): follow the indications to Koeln Bonn Airport (A59) until the
exit Porz-Wahn/Wahnheide. At the exit take the right (Porz-Wahnheide) and
follow the DLR sign.
Arriving from Cologne (A59) or Oberhausen/Duesseldorf (A3): follow the
indications to Koeln/Bonn Airport (A59), then do not exit at the
interchange "Flughafen Köln/Bonn" and take the next exit PorzWahn/Wahnheide. At the exit take the left (Porz-Wahnheide) and follow the
DLR sign.
By plane
Upon arrival at Koeln Bonn Airport there's two possibilities: Take a taxi
in front of the terminal and ask the driver to take you to "DLR in PorzWahnheide". Or take the local train S 13 direction "Troisdorf" from the
railway station "Köln/Bonn Flughafen", which is located in the basement of
the airport, to the station "Porz-Wahn" which is your first stop after
boarding the train. Continue from there by KVB bus number 160, direction
"DLR". See also above instructions "By train" and "By bus".
Dusseldorf airport (for Air France) is about 1-2 hours away (train: take a
train from the airport train station to Cologne main station (Köln Hbf),

there change to S12 or S13 as described above. Car: takes 1 hour under
normal conditions but ~ 2 hours if traffic is heavy).

Detail: how to reach DLR by public transport (from
Cologne)
At Köln Hbf (main station) go to platform 10. Take the next S-Bahn (like
RER in Paris) called S 12, or S13, which departs from Hbf every ~10 min at
times XX:01, XX:11, etc. where XX is any full hour (except in the middle of
the night).
About 15-18 mins later, you arrive at Porz-Wahn station (don't get out one
stop before, which is called quite similar, namely Porz(Rhein) but there is
a village around whereas at Porz-Wahn there are only fields and works in
the surrounding).
Go to the front right of the small station (in fact, it is rather a stop
than a station building). Take bus Nr. 160 to DLR (times see table below).
Takes 10 mins and the end stop is, in fact, DLR main gate.
Tickets can be bought in buses and from machines in station halls and/or
on platforms; they take coins, banknotes, Maestro cards.
Return works similarly:
Leave our building at T-10 min, where T= departure time of bus no. 160,
details see list below. Walk to the bus-stop at the main gate of DLR, take
bus 160 to Porz-Wahn station. Take S-Bahn S12 or S13 leaving at XX:10,
XX:19, XX:30, XX:39, XX:50, XX:59; all will call at Köln Hbf about 15 mins
later.

From/to the airport (CGN) it’s best to take a taxi, takes about 10 minutes.
Or you take S13 (XX:16, :36, :56) from GGN Airport station, takes 3 mins to
Porz-Wahn Station, then bus 160 as outlined above; return from Porz-Wahn
Station at XX:19, :39, :59 in 3 mins to Airport station by S13.
