Basic Requirements
Be 18 years of age
Complete a CSPS Calgary zone volunteer application form, which includes personal information, a criminal records check, and a listing
of two references
Be an intermediate to expert skier or snowboarder
Fundraising Commitment
October ski sale or casino (later in the year)
2 Fundraising shifts per year (applies to new
recruits as well)
Completed by patroller or replacement
Penalty of $100 per missed shift
Complete New Patroller Course through the Calgary Zone—$235 (includes manual, CD, National
Registration)
In Classroom Training & Examination
• Mandatory attendance (at least 90%)
• Weeknights and a couple weekends (starting
mid-September)
• Written exam (100 multiple choice questions,
80% pass mark on first attempt, 85% pass mark
if second attempt required). Correct to 100%
using manual
• Five CSPS National skills exams, including full
patient assessment with verbalization
On-Snow Evaluation (Must pass first aid course first)

Pass ski test at Canada Olympic Park and
demonstrate intermediate to expert skiing or
snowboarding skills
Toboggan handling training

Acquire Equipment
Jacket: $100—May have loaner jackets for
training
Backpack: $50-70—May have loaner backpacks for training
First Aid Equipment: $50-80—Supplemental
equipment to obtain the minimum kit requirements defined in CSPS manual (scissors, whistle, etc). 6 bandages, and basic first aid supplies are provided.
Lake Louise additional requirement - Shovel.
Probe and avalanche beacons are encouraged
