JP II Catholic Schools Network encompasses four schools in
the Fargo area. There are two elementary school campuses:
Holy Spirit Elementary School 1448 8th St. N.

Nativity Elementary School 1825 11th St. S.
Grades: K – 5
The enrollment for both elementary schools
including preschool is approximately 502
JP II Cathoilc Schools Network has one middle school and
one high school:

When St Paul describes the gifts God has given us, he includes teaching among the most important (1 Cor
12:28). “Go Teach!” was the final mandate of Jesus. History has shown us that without teachers to announce the Gospel and educate the young, the Christian community struggles to survive. Today, Blessed
John Paul II Catholic Schools finds itself at a crossroads - one of realization, aspiration and opportunity.
Our Legacy
... to inspire exceptional student achievement by teaching the total person and fostering the following of
Christ in an environment guided by the Gospel spirit, as taught by the Catholic Church.
Catholic Education in Fargo began in 1882 through the dedication of the Presentation Sisters of the
Blessed Virgin Mary. Through sacrifice and commitment, this educational ministry has evolved into a collaborative system known as the Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools Network. The Network continues to
reflect this tradition of academic excellence.
The Network is comprised of people who have developed a strong sense of family, whose foundation is in
the Catholic Church. The Network strives to provide the opportunity to develop life skills based on values,
faith and acceptance of self and others. There is a need to sustain a learning environment which provides
the opportunity for students to be formed by Catholic teaching, experience daily living in a faith community
and develop commitment and skills in serving others.
We seek to teach the message of hope contained in the Gospel. We envision that our children will be empowered to value the dignity of each person. Through the commitment to Catholic Education, we recognize
the opportunities to grow in faith, foster a sense of ministry and to advance a just and caring society.
Ensuring Our Legacy
Rooted in Catholic tradition since the late 1882, Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools remain committed to ensuring that the values and traditions of our past are as vibrant today as they were generations
ago. We pay tribute to those who came before us by insisting that a Catholic education remains accessible, transformative, and equal to the highest standards of excellence – inside and beyond the classroom.
Possessing a proud history dating back to the 1880’S Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools has gained
a highly respected reputation among Catholic institutions of learning and a distinguished presence in the
Fargo area as a school system synonymous with, “a community inspiring excellence through faith, learning and service”. To generations of students whose families sacrificed to send them to Blessed John Paul
II Catholic Schools, it remains a transforming moment in their lives, a catalyst for the successes they enjoy
today. Often alumni say, “College helped shape what I do. My Catholic education shaped who I am.”
Over the years Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools religious and lay faculty have inspired young children,
men and women to live a purpose centered life. In witnessing God in all people Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools are formed in this spirit through a rigorous educational experience centered on critical thinking
skills, leadership-in-action and Christian service to others. These life lessons ensure a legacy of teaching
minds, touching hearts and transforming lives ... they sustain the very mission of Blessed John Paul II
Catholic Schools as a gift from one generation to the next.

also of our shared responsibility to ensure the continuing viability, sustainability and growth of Blessed
John Paul II Catholic Schools to maintain its mission which is rooted in our value statement:

These essential values of a Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools education are as meaningful today as
they were one hundred years ago. Preparing young children, men and women with these guiding principles,
in all facets of life, endures as the essential mission of a Catholic education.
We humbly acknowledge the generosity and dedication of generations past that paved the way for Blessed
John Paul II Catholic Schools today.

Just as in the past when the Presentation Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary opened the first Catholic School in
Fargo in the late 1800’S and later, in the early 2001 when Bishop Sullivan set forth to ensure the legacy with the
construction of Shanley High School and Sullivan Middle School, today we commit ourselves in this generation
to follow their example to sustain the very mission that has left an indelible mark in our lives so that it may be
said we heeded the call in “Our Moment...Our Time”.
Commitment to Mission and Vision
Responsive to the need and sensitive to the moment, the Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools Pastors,
Catholic Education governance bodies and school administration have made a renewed commitment to
children in Fargo and surrounding communities to offer a Catholic school Network that is devoted to our
core values and academic excellence. In this effort, Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools has embarked
on a strategic planning process to further define the specific goals, tasks and action required to meet this
mission.
Building a Comprehensive and Integrated Advancement Program
Currently, the Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools leadership is embracing a “turning-point moment” in
the history of Fargo area Catholic education that will depend on securing transformational philanthropic
support. This opportunity is a unique moment in time for the Network to re-engage multiple constituencies
more actively in the life of Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools by way of the establishment of a comprehensive advancement program.
This initiative will entail engaging the Catholic and local community in such a way to maximize broad-based
interest, support and participation in the programs and activities of the Network by approaching the effort
along the proven operations/strategy and revenue components of a comprehensive advancement program. In conjunction, this effort will allow for the transformation of the Network to achieve the goals that
best ensure the continuing viability, sustainability and growth of the Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools
Network.
The expectation to meet this obligation is centered on the Network’s ability to secure charitable support
from those who value most and want to ensure that Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools fulfills its mission to the students and the community for generations to come. The following are some specific needs
that are essential to Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools meeting its mission:
Affordable Tuition
The mission of Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools is to serve children. In many cases the cost of tuition
is a significant barrier that prevents many families from sending their children to Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools. It is apparent that if additional tuition assistance were available to be awarded, more families
who could still pay a significant portion of their tuition would enroll their children in one of our Blessed John
Paul II Catholic Schools.
Staff Compensation and Development
Excellence in academics starts with top quality teachers and staff. It is important for Blessed John Paul II
Catholic Schools to provide competitive salaries and benefits to its staff to assist in recruiting and retaining
top quality faculty. In addition, it is essential for our schools that we
can offer opportunities for staff, including curriculum development, specialized training, and teaching innovations to help foster a dynamic learning environment. Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools would like
to target significant dollars for staff compensation, training and curriculum development to help reach and
maintain excellence in academics.
Technology and Teaching Materials
To remain a vibrant school network Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools Network needs to stay current
with technology and teaching materials. As technology advances, it offers the possibility for more distance
learning opportunities, interactive smart boards and other teaching aids. Adding fiber-optic based internet
communication offers both improved internet based learning opportunities as well as the ability for internet
based phone service among our buildings, substantially reducing on-going phone service costs. Securing the resources for these best practice tools of education is vital for our Blessed John Paul II Catholic
Schools’ students, staff and families.
Building and Facility Improvements
While overall Network facilities are in good condition, some key infrastructure items need to be addressed.
In addition, important items include facility enhancements to include more energy efficient electrical and
lighting fixtures, roof repairs and plumbing upgrades.
Ensuring the Viability, Sustainability, Growth and Excellence of the Blessed
John Paul II Catholic Schools Network
The challenge remains to fully-fund these initiatives without adversely impacting the delicate balance of financing Network operations. As tuition dependent institutions, Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools can ill
afford to pass the burden of these enhancements onto families in the form of exorbitant tuition increases
which would result in declining enrollment impacting the sustainability of the school’s mission.
Today, Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools finds itself at a crossroad - one of realization, aspiration and
opportunity. By aspiring to sustain excellence, the Network realizes it cannot address the strategic challenges inherent in the matters detailed above without asking for your support. Our hope is rooted in the
firm belief that in “Our Moment ... Our Time”, the extended Blessed John Paul II family will respond with a
grateful heart and generous commitment in support of the Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools Network.
Parent Testimony: “We send our Children to Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools because we want them
to receive a high-quality academic and religious education in a family friendly environment with top-notch
teachers. Their focus on core values reinforces what we as parents are trying to instill in our children to
prepare them for the future. In a nation where God and prayer are being pushed to the side when we need
them the most, there is only one choice ... Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools.”
Together We Can Accomplish Great Things
Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools proudly continues a strong tradition of academic and co-curricular
excellence “as a community inspiring excellence through faith, learning and service”. Our Catholic identity
invites our students to develop their faith as a conscious part of their daily lives - preparing them for leadership in the Church and the world.
We have so much for which to be grateful. It is through the perseverance of our founders, the sacrifice of
generous benefactors and the support of our local Catholic parishes that has allowed Catholic Education in
the Fargo area to have come this far and achieved so much.
In conjunction, we realize that there is much we at Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools can do to practice
sound fiscal stewardship and provide a sustainable business model that will ensure Blessed John Paul
II Catholic Schools’ continuing viability and growth. We also realize that enhanced levels of success cannot be achieved through our efforts alone. Our Network’s continuing viability, sustainability and growth is
closely tied to our ability to secure the financial support necessary to achieve our mission - and rests, in
part, in the generosity of our benefactors. For your partnership, we thank you!
