How to Use your Powder-Jack
Remove your jack from the tunnel mount of your
snowmobile, and secure the footplate in place
using the hairpin provided. Next, position the
strap securely onto your snowmobile to achieve
the safest results for the conditions in which you
find yourself. Once the jack is in the optimum
position, crank the handle to jack your
snowmobile up to the desired height, and then
push the snowmobile out of your tracks. Don't
forget to repack all your gear before getting back
to the fun! You can also watch our YouTube video
for further instructions. Just search using the

How can a light-weight jack work on my sled?
It's a matter of lift ratio...
Our jack design was engineered to be light
weight, yet still lift heavy snowmobiles. It is
engineered with a 13 to 1 lift ratio. That means
that for every pound of pressure applied to the
handle you receive 13 pounds of lift. It only
takes 50 pounds of pressure applied to the
handle to lift a 650 pound sled. If you feel
yourself having to force the lift, STOP AND
ASSESS! See other important factors below.
How do I estimate the lift ratio when using
my jack? Doesn't take much...
If it takes more than using one strong hand to
pump the jack handle, then you are likely
applying more than 50 pounds of pressure. YOU
SHOULDN'T HAVE TO FORCE THE LIFT! Each
block mechanism we ship is tested with a 500
pound lift. The break point for these is
somewhere between 1100-1200 pounds.
What if there is resistance when I try to lift
my sled? Stop and assess...
If there is resistance when you try to lift your
sled assess the following very important items
 Did you clear away heavy snow from
around your sled? If your sled is
weighted down in slush, heavy wet snow,
or icy conditions it creates a lift

environment that will exceed the break
points. Keep in mind the word POWDER!


Is the block mechanism itself clear of ice
or any other debris? The compression
weight of ice is tremendous.... that's why
it works for the Ice Road Truckers!
Please, check your entire jack before each
use. It must be free of ice and other
debris to work properly.
Give your jack a little help, by assessing
each lifting scenario! If there is ice
buildup in the block, set it on your engine
to thaw for a minute.
Just using common sense will avoid many
problems.

Why is my pole becoming scarred when I use
my jack? It's okay, but...
This is a friction jack, which means it's got to
create friction to lift. Your aluminum shaft will
become marked by normal use; however, when
lifting excessive weight, it will become deeply
grooved. Should this occur, use emery cloth or
similar weight sandpaper to remove burring
before using again. Excessive burring will
prevent the block from sliding freely up and
down the shaft.
What maintenance is required for my
jack? It's simple....

VISUALLY AND OPERATIONALLY
INSPECT YOUR JACK BEFORE EACH
USE.

IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCERN ABOUT
THE GROOVES IN THE POLE, LIGHTLY
SAND THE POLE WITH EMERY CLOTH
OR LIGHTWEIGHT SANDPAPER, THEN
BLOW OUT EXCESS DEBRIS AND
FOLLOW WITH LIGHTWEIGHT
MACHINE OIL.

Use a light-weight machine oil (not
WD-40!) between the tabs where the
pole goes through the tabs. Why?
aluminum dust builds up in this area
and causes the block to stick.

Securely fasten the strap to your snowmobile
first, and then place the loose end securely in the
top groove of the jack mechanism. Be sure that
the shaft is resting against the sled and is in a
completely vertical position before lifting. It
should not be angled towards or away from your
snowmobile (watch our How to Use Video for a
visual of what this looks like).
All persons should be clear of a load being raised,
lowered or pulled. NEVER work underneath a
raised load.
If any part of your jack fails to work properly,
discontinue use and have it repaired. NEVER
attempt to repair your jack while it is under a
load (don't try to fix it while it is in use).
DO NOT OVERLOAD your jack and do not
suspend loads over people, or any other
objects.
Our jacks are designed for a specific use,
which is to lift snowmobile tracks out of deep
powder conditions. They should never be
relied upon to lift your sled for any other
purpose, or out of other cumbersome
conditions such as heavy slush. Additionally,
having this jack should not give you false
confidence to travel alone into places that are
above your skill level!
