1. The price. If it was cheap, it’s more than likely fake;
unless it was marked down in a department store, don’t

2. The shop. Well-known department stores will not sell
fakes.
3. Flea markets or street vendors. Yes, you guessed it,
these handbags are definitely rip-offs. No famous
designers will allow their pieces to be sold on the street.

4. Tags and labels. Real designer handbags have handstitched tags on the inside. If it has no inner name tag, it’s
a fake.
5. The material. Real designer leather handbags smell of
leather. As for the canvas handbags, they should be
strong, durable and well stitched.
6. The stitching. If it is sloppy and uneven, it’s a fake. Real designer handbags have good quality, neat and
even stitching.
7. The logo: If the logo is spelled incorrectly, put the handbag down and walk away, this one is a knockoff
without a doubt.
8. The inner lining: Real designer handbags are often leather lined. Plastic-like lining is only used in fake
handbags.
9. Certificates. Real designer handbags come with a certificate of authenticity.
10. The serial number. Real designer handbags have the brand stamped inside the handbag, although not all
designers have this.
11. Wear and tear. Real designer handbags don’t fray or come apart at the seam, although this can only be
determined after you’ve bought the handbag.
Once you’ve determined that the handbag is in fact real, you should weigh up the benefits of purchasing it.
Keep in mind that just because it carries a well-known logo, doesn’t mean it is quality; you are paying for the
logo and the status it carries. But if you have your sights set on a designer handbag, look for all the above
criteria before you take the plunge.
