WHO WE ARE WHAT WE DO MY SCHOOL PAST EVENTS
WHO WE ARE WHAT WE DO MY SCHOOL PAST EVENTS The Bryanston fundraising Committee (BFC) is made up of a group of passionate parents and educators who very generously invest their time and energy into raising funds for Bryanston Primary School in order to offer our children the best education and opportunities available. BPS is a wonderful school with excellent educators and facilities and in order to maintain and continually upgrade these facilities we have to source additional funds. Some of the areas identified by the SGB that we want to raise funds for are: • Development of a new and improved catering facility • Interactive White boards in remaining few classrooms • Interactive Maths Centre • Sports related projects • Revamped Library • Assistance for the less fortunate Should you wish to get involved, please see our “How to Help” section. During the course of the year, the BFC runs several events and programmes to raise these funds. Some fundraising activities are new and untried whilst others have become traditions over the years such as the annual Fun Walk and Six-A-Side Soccer/Netball Tournament). However, we are continuously on the lookout for new and exciting ways to conduct fundraising so all ideas are welcome! We also manage the My School Card facility where family of pupils are asked to register and use their My School Cards whilst shopping and thereby without any cost to themselves, raise funds for the school. It’s so easy – so let’s get a lot more cards out there and get swiping ! Throughout the year we require prizes and give-aways so we ask all parents to chat to all colleagues, friends and family about any items or offerings that can be donated to the school or offered at cost. We will also gratefully receive any school requirements that can be sponsored for us, thus saving the fund for other uses. Bryanston HOW TO HELP WHO WE ARE WHAT WE DO MY SCHOOL PAST EVENTS About MySchool The MySchool fundraising programme is South Africa’s number one community support programme that raises essential funds for schools, charities and environmental organisations. Funds are used to improve education and social development in South Africa. You can make a difference to a worthy cause without costing you a cent! The MySchool programme raises more than R2.2 million per month for the schools, charities, animal welfare and environmental organisations it supports. How does MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet work? More than 600 000 South Africans carry MySchool cards. Supporters apply for a MySchool card for free and nominate their favourite school or charity as the beneficiary. When they purchase items from participating retailers they swipe the card with the purchase. A small percentage of their transaction is then allocated to their beneficiary school or charity. All these transactions are recorded and a statement is sent to individual supporters on a monthly basis. The partner stores pay the donation on your behalf! The supporter card is not a credit or debit card but simply tracks your transactions and your funds raised. Benefits of being a cardholder • You can raise funds for your favourite school or charity without costing you a cent • It is so convenient using one card at many different stores. There are over 11 national partners and over 2000 partner stores where you can use your card across the country. • Cardholders get exclusive discounts and special offers. For example, you are automatically part of WRewards from Woolworths (which includes 10% or more off on over 200 items in their stores and other tiered benefits), you get R40 off every GetAhead or MathPro educational software item that you buy, and you get exclusive discounts on vehicle recovery from Altech Netstar. How to become a supporter - get a card now! In order to become a supporter, you need to be registered with MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet and select a school or charity to support. You can register by completed the online application form, or get a card at your local Woolworths store. Bryanston HOW TO HELP WHO WE ARE WHAT WE DO MY SCHOOL PAST EVENTS HOW TO HELP Mother’s Day: 11 May 2012 Soccer and Netball tournament 19 May 2012 The “High Tea” arranged for Mothers Day was a wonderful success! Over 100 mothers and grandmothers were spoiled at an afternoon which included tea/coffee and delicious cakes, sandwiches, tarts and other eats, plus hand and neck massages. There was also jewelry, discounted make-up sets and Havaianas on sale. In addition, there were fabulous prizes and giveaways. Each mom received a make-up bag, with additional Estee Lauder bags given away as spot prizes. Main prizes, for two separate draws included a night away, hair makeovers, facials, massages, and pottery classes. But best of all was the group of school girls that got dressed up to assist with serving and taking care of the moms. The BFC pulled the event together with a great deal of effort and commitment from not only committee members but various moms and school staff. Thanks to all the educators and BFC volunteers; it truly was a highly successful day. Our heartfelt thanks go to all our sponsors for their generous donations and time provided: BPS was blessed with a beautiful day for our 43rd soccer and 15th netball tournaments. Our new and stunning banner was displayed outside the school making a great statement for the school and the families arrived continuously throughout the day. The BFC’s programmes sold out much faster than anticipated and we quickly had to make copies to keep up with demand ! • Love Hair for the hair makeover prizes • Junipas for their delicious muffins • Woolworths (Nicol Way) for the strawberries and cream • Tonic Body & Skincare Centre for the hand and neck massages, and prizes including a night away from Magalies Manor • Spar (Olivedale) for their savory snacks • Serendipity Skin Care for the massages • Mugg & Bean (Woodmead) for outstanding Lemon Meringue • Simone from Classique Co-ordinators for the beautiful tables • Paula from Groundworx for the fabulous invitations • Jackie Stark for flowers • Pick ‘n Pay Douglasdale for treats • The Pottery Studio and Skin Clinic for fabulous prizes, and • Cheylene who donated a wonderful range of African Ambrosia herbal tea for the moms to enjoy. We hope to see you there next year! Thanks to event co-ordinator Phumzile Magqaza and the help of our incredible volunteers and supporters, we managed to entertain the children with a jumping castle, run the Netball guess the score competition, manage the craft stalls, sell the BPS supporter shirts, sign up people for my school card, look after our pizza and lemonade suppliers and keep up with the hectic demand at the tuckshop. We are so appreciative to every one of you who were there to help and especially since most of us worked much longer than we had anticipated. What a team! The tuckshop sold out of pancakes and samoosas early on - they were such a hit! We made record sales on sweets and crisps and there were Wendy’s lemonade bottles in everybody’s hands ! Lots of fun for all the children and proud parents everywhere, hopefully well fed and watered all round and ready to join us again next year.. CLICK HERE FOR MORE! Bryanston WHO WE ARE WHAT WE DO MY SCHOOL PAST EVENTS GALA REFRESHMENTS: January and February 2012 With the absence of our Tuckshop, the BFC elected to set up a temporary refreshment stand at the Gala to provide our swimmers, their families and all the visiting schools with the opportunity to buy drinks and eats. It was extremely popular and in addition to making our visitors comfortable we raised R2532.44 for the school. Our thanks to the parents, prefects and school staff that assisted in the setting up, preparation of food and sales. The Fun Walk: 24 February 2012 Our annual Fun walk is one of the BFC’s biggest fundraising events in the year. This year’s theme was the Olympics and each grade was given a letter from the word Olympics and asked to dress up in something that started with that letter. As usual the kids responded with great enthusiasm and raced around the field trying to finish as many laps as possible before the time was up. The BFC pulled the event together with a great deal of effort and commitment in particular from educator Casey Macaulay. Thanks to all the educators and BFC volunteers it was a highly successful day. Our heartfelt thanks go to all our sponsors for their generous donations of facilities or handouts for the children during the walk : Sportsmans Warehouse, Hobart Spar, Virgin Active, Supercare Services, Dimension Data, Syspro Corporate, Dion Wire-mass discounters, Fireworkfire, Nivea Sun, Kraft Foods. We are extremely grateful for the generous sponsoring of our fabulous prizes from the following people or companies: • Top student: Most monies raised: Narelle du Bois • Most Monies raised in each grade (x 7): Greg Barnard • Most Monies raised in a class (SP & FP): Ster-Kinekor • Best Dressed: Havianas • Lucky Draws: Helen o’Grady Drama academy Bryanston HOW TO HELP WHO WE ARE WHAT WE DO MY SCHOOL PAST EVENTS There are currently three categories in which parents are able to able to be involved and these cater to the varying degrees of time and commitment that parents are willing and able to offer: Committee members who actively participate in the monthly meetings and are part of the team responsible for the various portfolios and events for the year Supporters who assist with various requests from the BFC such as sourcing donations, sponsorships, contacts or ideas and getting involved in ad hoc events Volunteers who make themselves available at functions or events to lend a hand.
