1. ICTmagic
First place for the 2011 Best Educational Wiki went to Martin Burrett for his ICTmagic wiki. It’s a
truly inspiring collection of IT resources for students and teachers, and it’s sure to give you more
ideas than you could possibly have time to try. ICTmagic was also our Featured Wiki last
August, so you can read more about it in Martin’s own words.
2. Resources for History Teachers
Second place went to Robert Maloy of the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His Resources
for History Teachers began as part of a class in 2006. Then, in the best tradition of all great
wikis, it grew through the combined efforts of Professor Maloy’s students, along with K–12
educators and students from around the world, into a rich, multimedia, cross-referenced
sourcebook for anyone interested in teaching or learning about history.
We were also very excited to see that many of the people we have previously profiled on this
blog were nominated for Edublog Awards, including Andrew Churches of the Educational
Origami wiki, Gwyneth Jones of the Daring Librarian wiki, Shawn Avery of the Student Math
Movies wiki, and Craig Kemp of the Ruma Tahi wiki.
And congratulations to Linda Yollis, winner of the Most Influential Blog Post award, whose
Educational Blogging wiki we featured in November.
In fact, we want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the Edublog winners and nominees,
across all the categories. The amazing educational content you are constantly creating and

different ways, each is an example of how wikis can be used to break down borders and build

Without further ado, the winner and second runner-up of the Edublogs Best Educational Wikis of
2010:
Greetings from the World
Recognized as the best educational wiki for the second year in a row, Arjana Blazic’s
Greetings from the World wiki gives her students in Zagreb, Croatia a way to share their own
experience and explore the world. Glogs posted by students from around the globe let us all see
the world in the most special way possible: through the eyes of the people who live there.
“I’m deeply honored and absolutely delighted to have received the award for the Best
Educational Wiki for the second time in a row,” says Arjana. “I launched the Greetings From The
World wiki in September 2009 with 24 students from my class, because we wanted to create a
virtual trip around the world and learn with and from our peers. When we won our first award in
December 2009, there were 11 teachers from 10 schools in the project. Over the past year the
wiki has grown into a truly international project with 21 teachers and 420 students from five
continents. The cross-curricular approach and collaborative nature of the project definitely keep
it going. We hope that more teachers and students join us in the future. Greetings From The
World is a wiki open to teachers of all subjects, to students of all ages, to speakers of all
languages and to learners from all over the world.”
Metasaga
This year’s second runner up is Kate Coutts’ gorgeous wiki, Metasaga. Beginning with
Uyeasound, Unst, in the Shetland Islands, each Metasaga gives students (and their teachers) a
chance to learn by exploring their whole environment — not just physically, but historically and
culturally, as well.
Each individual Metasaga feels like a deeply personal guided tour, full of photographs, histories,
and personal impressions. They are fascinating explorations of place that make you itch to go
out and create your own.

1. Briefly describe your group, your wiki, and what you use it to do:
Our wiki is a collaborative project aimed to share some of the amazing work happening in classrooms
around the world. We focus on collecting math videos made by students that can be viewed and used as a
teaching tool. We've sorted the wiki into different math strands so that it is easy to navigate to different
math concepts.
2. Besides the Edit button, which wiki feature is your favorite?
My favorite wiki feature is the ability to embed. It's so quick and easy to add any number of different
tools to a wiki. For this wiki, the ease in which we can add videos made Wikispaces the perfect place to
host our site. We've also been able to easily add other great widgets as a Clustrmap and visitor feed.

These curriculum materials present works of art from a variety of times and places, and include
both functional and non-utilitarian objects. Most of the six artworks discussed here are related to
places of dwelling, emphasizing items that are part of our daily life or surround us in our homes.
Each one is part of the permanent collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art
(LACMA).

A decorative tile made in fifteenth-century Iran, a Korean jar made between two and three
hundred years ago, and a chair and a lamp created during the twentieth century highlight the
ageless desire found throughout many different cultures to create beautiful objects. A ceramic
rendering of a Maya house group and a painting of two women flying over a city portray the real
and imaginary environments in which we live.
Each of these six objects is accompanied by background information. Suggested activities for
looking, thinking, writing, and art making are included to assist students as they explore the
artworks and to prompt them to make connections with their own lives. These materials were
developed in alignment with Kindergarten California State Content Standards for Visual Arts and
English Language Arts; they are designed for classroom use and intended to stimulate critical
thinking, support creative expression, and promote meaningful experiences with works of art.

This how-to is now unnecessary as a wiki-like service is now available via Google Apps. This is Google
Sites:

You should be able to access it from your Google Apps dashboard. If not, try deleting your Google Page
Creator service and then cIick Add more services link.
Also the Google Sites service may not be available in your language. Try setting your Google Apps
default language to English. This setting is located at Domain settings tab > General > Language. In this
same settings page you should also activate Next generation(US English only) feature.
